I am seeing more and more people who are convinced that <scheme_X> is _guaranteed_ to give better loot.
I don't believe it, and searching here, most people here don't.
Has anyone posted any hard data on this? Or a Dev post?
I want to be able to tell people something more definite than "my five sources know better than your five sources". That is a good way to have a discussion like "Yes it does! No it doesn't! Yes it does! No it doesn't! OK, Fine! <leave group>."
Incidentally here is what I have seen:
"Using Diplomacy on a chest gives better loot."
"The highest level should open chests first."
"If someone with a loot gem opens a chest, then waits until everyone else loots, everyone gets +1 loot level."
Some of them could have just been bugs in the code, and may have worked once, but _TALKING_a_chest_into_giving better_loot_? <boggle>
#1 is an old bugfrom game release when using the diplomacy skill near a chest would give you a diplo roll. There are to this day a very few players still completely convinced it affects the chests, but mostly references to it tend to be one of those in-jokes that new players dont get and assume is real and the joke gets spread
its incredibly widespread among the newbies of ghallanda right now.
The only ones that really work* are Grease Clickies (makes sure all the loot slips out of the hidden compartment in each chest) and putting a Dimension Door right on the chest (warps in more loot from the Astral Plane).
*does not actually work - but could be funny in the right group.
I heard in Caverns of Korromar you get slightly better loot from the 1 chest a particular area, if you purify ALL the urns/vases and the altar, as well as despatch the wraith -FIRST. I never actually got to test this myself, because even though I mentioned it, someone in every group I was in always ran and popped the chest beforehand.
Ok, so how do I get in touch with an admin in order to stop getting such terrible loot?
What, you didn't pray to the Eberron loot goddess Olladra and dance around the chest and chanting nekkid for her Benevolence in the past and bless the loot for the future? No wonder she is upset with you and also inform her buddy "The Jester" not to draw presents from the special bag.
Once I did the dance and chant above, I have been blessed with +3 dexterity tomes, +3 intelligence tomes, +3 charisma tomes, Litany of the Dead tomes, you named it Praise Olladra!
I have been known to change my dice in the game for better rolls.
I remember one kobold brothers run where a small person said at the beginning of the quest, "I've heard that if you don't open any chests you get a better chance for muck to spawn" Then every time we opened a chest before getting to Muck he would say in a sing-song voice, "Guess you don't want a muck". By the end I was ready to reach thru the mic and strangle him.

Disagree. I've gotten the named item from the chest both before and after wraiths. It doesn't change the matter at hand.
(Guild): [Guild] +Tarrant: And then there was the whole "Wait is that me? Rewind. Pause! Looks like my shirt. Think those are my shoes. Definitely my legs.

I heard of one superstition that killing the kobold brothers in a certain order would get Muck to spawn more often. I thought it was BS, but I really couldn't argue with the guy when I got a Muckbane on the first run with him.

There are actually 2 chances to spawn Muck. Kill the right brother and open left valve, run through left door to where muck spawns. If he doesn't spawn, kill left brother, then open right valve. Run past the right brother and through right door. I've gotten Muck to spawn going through the left door and I've gotten him to spawn through the right door after not spawning through the left. Neither will increase your chance of muckdoom spawning but more chances to spawn muck can't be bad.
