Default Stormreach Chronicle (9-10-08)

Welcome to the Chronicle - a weekly look at what's happening around the forums! Read on for tips, community spotlights, Turbine info, and more!

The following guilds are looking for more adventurers. Learn more about them here!

The Poverty Guild, of the Argonnessen server
Compendium Page: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/The_Poverty_Guild
Recruitment Thread: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=157652
"Poverty is a new guild on Argo whose purpose is to ensure that players remain poor and ill equipped to handle the task at hand. We're a non-hardcore guild. We're easy going. We're "eh, alright". We prefer normal quests, and hard if we're feeling edgy. We're more interested in exploring and advancing and getting a handle on all that D&D has to offer at every level. You will encounter builds that are unusual, non-optimal, or the like, accept them and enjoy and make your own. This is the Perma-Sanction Guild."
White Council, of the Ghallanda server
Compendium Page: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/White_Council
"The White Council is a group of mature adventurers that enjoy grouping and raiding together. Everyone brings something to the table, and we value each thing that you can offer. We know our own when we meet them!"
To Hit Armor Class Zero, of the Ghallanda server
Compendium Page: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/To_Hit_Armor_Class_Zero
"Our membership includes players from Canada, the US, and Australia and we are always looking for good people to join. Although we are primarily a social guild, we are not above forming raid parties and hosting guild runs for some of the more difficult quests. You will find all of our members helpful and encouraging for both new players and old. Whether you need advice on quests, character builds, or just have general questions about DDO, you will always find our officers and senior members helpful and (usually!) well versed in the world of Ebberon."
Medieval Moonbase, of the Sarlona server
Compendium Page: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Medieval_Moonbase
"New Guild with a good group of old PnP players, part of large multi-gaming community. We stress mature gaming, and want to be as active as we can. If interested contact Steadys, Cerip, Kaagneer, Jyslin, or Deazra."
Inferus SuS, of the Thelanis server
Compendium Page: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Guild:Inferus_SuS
"We are a group of adults who want to enjoy the experience of Dungeons & Dragons Online with unique, like-minded individuals who are dedicated to having fun. We are family and couples oriented and understand that sometimes the needs of our families might interrupt our play time, however, we try to limit those occurrences to as few as we possibly can. Our play style is varied from exploration to gaining levels in a hurry power levelling, with a focus towards end game. We also have some avid PVP/ers as this is a good lighthearted way to test our playing skills and character's builds in game. We operate on a 'need before greed' basis when determining loot disbursement, and our focus is on integrity, honesty and applying “the golden rule” to our guild-mates. Recruitment is open - drop by our website to check out what we are about and apply for membership. An officer will get back in contact with you there and arrange a meet and greet time in game."
Over 500 guilds have pages available in the Compendium! Read more about guilds in the Compendium by clicking here!

Are you a new or returning player seeking help? The Academy highlights community efforts to assist incoming and returning players!

This week, we're taking a moment to spotlight some of the community's regularly occurring advice and question answering features. These range from official talk with the Turbine Team to player-run advice and help segments!

The QA Lodge

Have you ever encountered something in the game and you're not quite sure if it's a bug or a design feature? The QA team has been fielding questions in the QA Lodge for times when you're just not certain if something is "by design" or not. Be sure to look the Lodge rules over before you enter the Lodge, and check out the QA News section of the thread for important and upcoming information related to the game!

Ask The Devs

Top fansite DDOCast has been collecting questions from players to field to Turbine. Members of Turbine's DDO development team gather on the show for this reoccurring podcast segment of DDOCast to answer the questions collected by the show's host, Jerry Snook. Be sure to visit DDOCast to find out how you can have a chance to get your question asked on the show!

Ask A Loremaster

Not every player is up to speed on the lore of the Eberron setting. Community member MysthicTheurge started a regular thread and Compendium page to try to answer Eberron related lore questions. From History to Dragonmarks, an extensive range of topics is covered and many are now available in his Compendium page!

Ask Gornn

Offering friendly advice to players new and old, Gornn has started a DDO-themed "Dear Abby" column. From awkward social moments to general game woes, Gornn tries to offer help and a friendly ear to those who write in.

For more help be sure to visit the Newbie Q&A forum and Game Play Guides

Game Tip of the Week

Be sure to check the coloration on your loot item icons. Items that are yellow or red mean that you will be ineffective, or possibly unable, to use some items or gear.

The following threads are scheduled to be unstuck on September 19th, 2008 unless they are adopted:

Thread Name: Argonnessen Swappers Listing

About the Thread:

In March of 2007, community member DaveyCrockett began keeping a running list of active trade lists for the Argonnessen server. From "Bee's Bundle 'O Bargains" to "War's Battle Gear," frequent traders' thread "shops" were sorted and updated. This thread can be a fun tool for players who are fond of item trades!

Interested in adopting a sticky? Learn more by clicking here!

Oh happy day! New information about Character Slots and Risia Updates!

Now, I wonder what's become of my precious Adamantine Defenders.

Edit: And Tolero's sig looks like it has a puzzle.

Hmm... what could this mean?

Sure.

I think it's mis-leading to say "Looking for a character design? Unsure of which feat to take next? Check out this week's character builds for tips, designs, and other help with your character's advancement!" as it suggests those are well thought and strong builds. That is not the case.

As Tolero pointed out previously, she does not choose the 'best' builds, but interesting threads. It can be because the concept is new or that there is a very interesting discussion going on. How 'good' the build is does not enter the equation and for that reason, the header should be changed. I agree with Tolero, that a thread can be pointed at for the discussion going on. Forums readers can learn from a thread even though the build is horrible. My problem really just is with how it is presented and how it suggests those builds are good...

Happy?

Actually that's the reason I avoided the adjectives: "best" "recommended" "suggested" or "popular" and went with "featured". Think of it like an art gallery - art can be "featured", but who likes the art is still a highly subjective subject

I'll see what I can do about the wording on that to make it more apparent.

I always saw featured as "having reached a certain level of quality", but English is not my native language so I could be wrong.

nah, just look at American television and film.

"featured" doesn't mean quality, it just means "somebody paid enough money to have this shoved in front of your face."

In the context of DDO builds, it appears to be "builds that show imagination, no matter how gimped or unfeasible."
