Well Ya... And while I can be pretty hard on Turbine at time.... Mostly invovlign communication etc.... To say that the the DDO isn't dedicated.. Well I can't and won't say that.... They try, and do the best they can....
I think this day long downtime for the update is the best move they've made....Get it right, run some diagnostics, try to find any problems, fix them before bringing things back live. Then go have many mnay many BEERS!
I agree. However, given the substanative nature of the changes: quests, combat mechanics, DDO Store, we should be prepared for hiccups even after it goes live. I think there is a pretty good chance of some extendend downtime for hotfix, rollback, etc. within the first 48 hours. Not a slam against Turbine at all, but it should be expected with such significant changes to the game.

It is certainly a possibility, and I imagine they will be waiting for them, headstart is as much a shakeout period as it is getting in early. Its just head start sounds better

Yep, agree...... ut I'd say they at least have a "Chance" of catching some of the major glitches.... Not the game play bugs, but crashing style glitches before it goes live... I hope

I was planning on staying out of this post, but upon reading this line I feel the need to interject for a moment. For months the staff here have been working insane hours in preparation for the launch of DDO Unlimited, and will continue to do so through Monday and the weeks following it. Everyone including our development team, technical team, operations team and more have given up sleep, leisure, and family time to bring DDO Unlimited to life. I am beyond impressed with the level of commitment I witness at Turbine, and everyone behind the scenes more than deserves a round of applause (and beer ) for the work they've put in. Being unwilling to put in the overtime never applies with these guys.
Tell the team thanks from us players!!
I'm still here
...Good luck for tonight/this morning and I hope to see you all in game on the 1st!!

It never needed to be as big as it is - half the **** the put into it the player base never asked for, that's not a judgment on the items just statement.
Funny... I believe some of the player base has asked for:
Solo and/or small group questing
Clearer combat numbers
Easier wand usage
"Optionals" being worth doing
Another class that could go the route of dedicated healer(although I still think you don't need one in most quests)
Flexible targeting system
New quests both high and mid level
Shared bank slots
Revamp of some of the less done quests to make them more worth doing(XP boost and named items now drop in some less frequented quests)
Changes to some raids so you don't need to reflag for them(DQ raid)
Respec system(not done yet but it looks like some preliminaries have been put into place like MinLeveling Tomes)
Trade channel
Reduction in DPS lag
All 20 levels
I know I am forgetting a bunch of things. Yes we didn't ask for dungeon alert(well a few people did ask for something to keep people form zerging ahead of the party, but still) but we did ask for a reduction in Lag and this is supposed to help that out some. We didn't ask for a DDO store, but we did ask that they keep the doors open and this new F2Play marketing might just do that.

Don't forget the fix to ranged combat... oh wait... still broken since release (2006). Sorry for the interruption. Go back to explaining how awesome everything is.
For the original point of taking 24 hours, that is not a big deal by any means. Only having one release in over a year is. The Atari vs Turbine saga should have delayed mod 10 since mod 9 should have been a 2008 release. Plus, the content since mod 4 has been well... rather light. I hope that module 9/ddou is the saving grace we all hope for but I am not holding my breath.
Nonetheless I will continue to pay my monthly until something else can permanently grab my attention. Since all other MMOs seem to want to follow the stand in place and spam an attack chain of skills and therefore becoming boring within a month, this is where I am for better or worse. If only DDO would sell its combat engine to someone who will create a vast open world for it....

Agreed. Everyone of the things you listed, more than one thread has been started with multiple people saying they are for said thing. I would say that qualifies as the "player base" asking for those things.
As I first played the game in the recent beta, then subbed and now play mod 8, can I say that the 'new' game is well worth a 24 or 36 hour wait. I dont know what quests are new, and never got to play the higher levels, but the beta made me sub to the game . . . the first time I have ever subbed ... and after a week or 3 in stormreach, all I can say is WOOOO HOOOO BRING BACK EBERRON UNLIMITED!!!!!! (okay, i know it was 'lamannia' but you get my drift)
The store is great, the chat was great but most important ... the game was great.
We should be on our knees thanking the devs and everyone involved for what they have done to get here, and I hope you long term paying players can find it in yourselves to accept the vast majority of F2P'ers, as they are decent folk, and try to move forward with the game.

I'll stay on my feet, thanks. Bad things can happen when you are on your knees.

I think most of understand the hard work the devs put in and that the delays were caused maionly by lawyers and execs. Thanks for stepping in, haven't heard from the OP since.

Oh, and if someone could +rep Tarrant for me I would be thankful.
I need to get around more before giving it to him again.
I did, but I think yours counts more than mine.

In my line of work we have a saying. "Under promise and over deliver."
If you tell some one it'll take you 20 minutes, and it takes you an hour...people get tourqued.
If you tell them you'll need a week and get it done in two days...you're a hero.
This helps your credibility, and makes you look better even though you're doing the same quality of work.
I'm guessing Turbine is tired of the bad press and is taking this to heart, but we'll see when it comes back up.

Perception is everything. We've been telling Turbine this for years and hopefully instead of going over their stated time this time they'll either meet it or release early.
