Default Too Good an Idea to Let Die

Well lets be real here, one of the things we all want more of is.. Inventory Space. For any number of reasons, we just want more of it. from bank Spaces to just being able to carry more stuff, we need more inventory.

and every time I see this a topic like this, i think back to another post I read a while back in the Suggestion go to Die Topic. http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=395519 and I will admit I can't get how amazing this idea is out of my head.

So, I figured I'd bring it up to here, and expand upon it a bit.. with Pictures! because everyone loves pictures! So here is my idea.

So thinking about it, it would be better if it was not an item or a bag or anything like that. but something it's own thing, like the Monster manual, you hit Ctl-T and you bring up the Trophy Room.

This is where you put all your "named" items in the game. And some of us are not willing to part with our named stuff even if it is just a Bloodknuckle Smasher or some other trash item. because we like the idea of named loot.

So what this would do is, we get the "Harbor" stuff for free, like.. well.. Bloodknuckle Smasher, Keenza Bauble, sewer smock, and other items we simply can't live without.

But then, what they do is sell additional Trophy Room Packs, and sell in a bundle deal, like "Necropolis" would include Necro I, II, II and Orchard, so we can go out and collect every item from "Necro" and more then that, if we bought the Trophy Wall Pack which did not perfectly line up with an adventure pack we would be inspired to get all the packs to fill the Trophy Wall.

    Other Examples:
    • Storm Reaver Pack: Which would include all the items from Tempest Spine, Giant Hold and Reavers Refuge.
    • The Hobgoblin Alliance: Shan to Kor, Tangleroot, Redwillows
    • The Founders: Delera's Crypt and Thernal.
    • Etc. Etc.

I propose with this addition, not only would Turbine stand to make some serious money, they would not need to worry about all the outbursts on the Forums about pay to Win they receive every time they put a new item in the Store.

I just wanted to bring this idea to the front again. because I think it has to be the best Idea I have heard in regards to dealing with Inventory issues and players who like to collect stuff (Like myself)

    Edit Added ---

--- Figured Since I put added examples in later posts, I would apply the images here as well to give a better idea of how this could work and what I am talking about.

For example* - With the idea of Packs:

For other situations where their could be several variants, a page could be added in like this* -

And maybe as opposed to "pack sets", they could just offer item sets, for players who have a specific build or like, and only really need some named items to be sorted but also don't need to worry about other kinds of items, like for example* -

I would like to take a moment to explain that this would be Functional, like a bank vault, with prettier images and better organization. Imagine if this was Turbines answer to giving us a House, Lodge, Den, Parlor, Trophy Room, as it were we could put stuff in and take stuff out.

This was never designed to be a one way trip into the Stash, nor was this meant to a 'glorified' bag.

The idea here is that you can put your stuff into your "Trophy Room" at any time due to magic, however to take something out you need to go to the Inn or the Bank (IE: access your Trophy Room). Because lets be real, if Turbine gave us housing, what other use would be put it to other then as a place to hold more stuff.*

*The link is to George Carlin.. take that as all the warning you are going to get.

I'm a hoarder. I would totally buy this from the store. I keep everything that I can, but I TR constantly and my TR cache only holds so much. I have to throw stuff away each life, that I would love to keep.

I would spend TP to have a space where I could keep all named items outside of general inventory.

Yep. They added a Monster Manual, why not an Unearthed Arcana with loot?

Could be sold in packs like the mm.

    Excellent idea, Ungood! +1

Personally, I'll throw even named loot on the ground when I start gathering prodigious amounts of chaff. Then again, I don't get too attached to virtual things. I can understand why some do, however - Sentimentality and all that. Such should not be penalized by limited storage space. I would like to suggest that once an item is placed "on the shelf" - so to speak - it must remain there as a trophy only. Perhaps a reward of some token TP (much like favor rewards) for filling out a complete "set" would be in order as compensation. There will always be more to collect.

    Yeah. ;_;
The stuff might as well be cursed, I just can't drop it.

I wanted to dislike this idea when I thought the "trophy case" was just a ploy to store more inventory. But as I read further it became something I would consider buying... though I wouldn't buy it is was fractured into smaller "trophy cases" or the price was more than a couple hundred TP's. It should also be restricted to the number of items you can retrieve out of it per day, so as to keep it from being "extra storage" and named items only.

I would like the option (check box) to display my "trophy case" next to the examine button when people select me... so anyone could see the named loot that character had pulled. Check box, because there are people who would not care for displaying their "trophies"

The more I think about it, the more I like.

Creates value for "less uber" magical items, gives a place to store, creates a new
    achievement area....

It really is just one of those ideas that snowballs well. Which is why I wanted to bring it back to life. It grows on you the more you ponder the concept of it.

Love it - I struggle to get rid of named loot even when it's totally useless to me... it's the reward for playing that chain X number of times.

To be able to keep it and get it out of my active inventory - and with some option to potentially retrieve it someday, as someone suggested 1 item per day would be great.

I'm always thinking in the back of my mind the next characters I want to generate, so I start collecting Khopesh', Heavy Armour, Wraps etc etc so this would save me a lot of hassle. If it was collected by the module or chain of adventures it would also be a great way to see how you've progressed in your farming!

The more I ponder the concept of it, the more I think turbine would be either require it to be unlocked per character, or it taking years to get implemented due to having to meticulously deal with each pack/area/named item, or having issues like the MM also has that certain things won't register properly and cause them to be lost in the process...

Then there's the issue what do you do with the named items that have multiple mutations, like, for example, the Dream edge from Mindsunder, the seal of house dun'robar, or turbines new 'pet project' different items with the same name for different difficulties. If you give each of those mutations a different slot, some volumes would be massive only because of that, if you only allow one of the same name, you're still gonna have hoarding issues.

Or if they actually limit it to 1 item/day withdrawal and you need half a dozen or more items for a new build or character you're working on...

Either way, it's an interesting concept/idea, and I could get behind it, but I'd much prefer to just get 6 more purchasable bank tabs so I can decide what to store, even if they're just stacks of cakes and cookies.

Last but not least: why is this in the general discussion, it should be in the suggestions & ideas area.
