They do say that actions speak louder than words. Unfortunately without any real insight into what has been fixed in the past 9 months and what is still work-in-progress to be fixed, it's not really possible to give full credit for the actions that Turbine have already taken on these quality of life fixes. All most of us see are bugs, glitches and things that we suspect will never be fixed.Originally Posted by Fernando Paiz, August 30 2012
But rather than just whinge about how the world is going to end and how low the server populations are, and how the alpha version of the new enhancements will break everything, I thought we could do something constructive and compile a list of the quality-of-life fixes that we want to see. And I don't just mean "FIX ALL BUGZ" or "LADDERS" or "LAG" or "SCRAP PRR, DODGE AND GIVE US OLD AC SYSTEM" or "GUILDS SUCK". These are either nebulous like "all bugs" or that ship has already sailed like "new AC system".
So here's my list, not in order of priority, and I'll come back and edit this with other people's suggesions. These can be as banal or as trivial as you like. If they are trivial and a 10 minute fix then so much the better (because those of us with real-life development experience know there is actually no such thing as a 2 second fix!).:
- Lack of engagement between developers and players, not helped by the lack of development tracker on the forums. Provide a comprehensive warts-and-all "Known Issues" list which details all of the known issues acknowledged from bug reports - this gives us confidence that bug reports actually make any sort of difference to the game. Provide comprehensive release notes which detail specific issues that we would recognise, make this dynamic so that we can see what is coming in the next release instead of the current situation where we need to wait until a release is finished before we see what it contains. Provide a dev blog to let us know what projects are being worked on. This more than anything else would resolve the frustration expressed on the forums that Turbine are disengaged from their player base.
- Lack of visibility of server population or option for servers to vote for a merge - if 99% of the people on a server vote for a merge with a server chosen by Turbine then why should that not happen (vote results compiled from active players on that server over a 3 month period, character must have been active on that server within last month at the time the vote was announced)
- Number of issues with creatures not recorded properly in the Monster Manual. We're happy to continue providing you with all of the details but only if there is some chance that these will be addressed.
- Monster manual - volume 3 creatures have no Account based Hunter achievements, only Slayer achievements. Allow Character and Account based Hunter achievements and revise upwards the XP granted by character achievements in earlier volumes to make them comparable with volume 3.
- Give us original artwork for Ghouls and Ghasts instead of just duplicating the same.
- Lack of detailed Character Sheet. There should be an option in the UI Settings to select a "Detailed Character Sheet" that allows new players to start with the current version that we have, but for experienced players or detail junkies to see all of the details that we want to see - spell critical chance, spell critical multiplier, sneak damage, chance to bypass fortification, detailed list of sources of dodge and attribute buffs, etc. Adding pop-ups with incomplete information and no real detail is not the answer.
- Guild members list - allow us to add comments and allow these comments to persist through TRing
- Guild members list - allow the list to be sorted by account, not just character. If a player doesn't nominate a "primary" character then their first character alphabetically becomes their "primary". Make the list collapsable/expandable by primary character. When collapsed, show a counter of the number of characters for that account.
- Guild members list - when an inactive account becomes active, show all their character names in yellow for 30 days, when an active account becomes inactive, show all their character names in a light grey for 30 days, when an inactive account has been inactive for more than 30 days, show all their character names in a dark grey to grey them out.
- Guild members list - allow at least the guild leader to see the renown that each character has gained in the past 24 hrs, 7 days, 30 days, ever. Allow the list to be sorted by these.
- Guild members list - allow the guild leader to define additional ranks or titles within the guild, aside from the standard Member/Officer distinction for recruitment.
- Guild members list - show 4 class icons allowing all Heroic and Epic levels to be seen
- Guilds - when a character joins or leaves a guild, provide a date and time-stamped log that shows who inguilded that person or when a character left, whether it was on good or bad terms, and what the renown cost was.
- Friends list - retain the comments when you TR
- Squelch list - allow us to add a comment when we squelch people that we can refer back to when we review the /squelch list - allow these comments to persist through TR's.
- Add a button to the Adventure compendium to let us view Raid Timers and Raid completions. Retain the old /backslash commands but add a UI option to view these
- Add a button to Friends list to bring up a squelch window with additional options to add/remove or amend comments. Retain the old /backslash commands but add a UI option to view these
- Convert the Stone of Change to the Barter Box style. Hopefully this would fix the issue where we need to close and re-open the Stone of Change interface when it becomes unresponsive after a number of uses.
- Convert to the Stone of Change to the new barter box UI to allow us to define quantities for things like combining khyber dragonshards.
- Allow spells to be set to "self only" by right-clicking and selecting the option in the same way as we can configure Meta-magics. This would help set the centre for mass buffs and prevent you casting a heal spell on an undead instead of yourself.
- Allow spells to be set to "inrange only" by right-clicking and selecting the option in the same way that we can configure Meta-magics. This would prevent a spell being cast if the creature is currently out of range.
- Change the colour of a creature's target reticule from white based on it's distance and what is currently wielded. A ranged user with PBS Feat would see any creature with 45 feet with a green reticule. Allow a spellcaster to Shift+left-click on a spell on their toolbar to set the range based on that spell for standard, rays, cones and globes. A creature out-of-range would be shown in red. Provide a UI option to enable or disable ranged based colours.
- If I am "Not facing" a creature, then do not cast a spell, do not deduct spell points and do not put it on cool-down. Or if you are going to take the spell points and put it on cool-down then just cast it infront of me anyway and we'll see what happens!
- Accurately show the DC of all spells and Tactical Feats on the toolbar for those items, taking account of Feats and any Action Boosts.
- Reduce or remove dungeon alert and associate harried effects. It is ridiculous that an enemy at one end of the dungeon can apply a harried effect to a character at the other end of the dungeon.
- Allow the buff bar at the top of the screen to wrap-around or extend beyond the current limit where only some of the buffs are displayed. F1 then Z isn't the most complicated thing in the world to do, but a constant on-screen view of what buffs you have and how long before they expire does seem quite basic.
- Add a buff icon for buffs provided by items, VOM+Mantle provide a Trueseeing buff, but Tharne's Goggles doesn't. Deathblock from Silver Flame Necklace, Blur from Greater Nimble Trinket or Bracers of Wind ... etc etc etc.
- Provide a visible count-down on temporary buffs like Artificer buffs and display the time relevant to the currently wielded equipment.
- On Cannith Crafting devices, add an option to filter crafting shards by prefix, suffix and enchantment level of the shard - i.e. if I want to find all +2 prefix's that fit on a cloak, then I should be able to stick a cloak in the device and select prefix and +2 as my filters.
- Fix the string table error instances.
- Fix the wrong splash screens - e.g. when exiting Dont Drink the Water you see Ss... splashscreen.
- Allow crystal cove doubloons to be converted from one type to another
- Allow locking of hotbars and icons independently. I don't want to remove a hotbar accidently but I have to switch icons placed on it often.
- Allow gear locking to certain inventory pages. Currently after an adventure used weapon sets and scrolls are tossed on page one together with new loot and have to be put in order manually.
- Allow disabling the xp bar. Most of the time its wasting screen space.
- Allow disabling the input line in chat windows. For example I use a window for loot only, which does not need any outgoing chat.
- Allow us to combine lesser essences to greater essences. We can break a greater to a lesser on a 3:1 ratio. Allow us to combine lesser to greater on a 10:1 ratio.
- Chat window transparency icon: move it to the lower left corner, so it doesn't stay hovering in mid-air above our character head when window is set to transparent. Visually annoying. Or make it so it doesn't appear in the middle of nothing, anyway. And since you're at chat window remodeling, remove that round edge; many players use multiple chat displays, and the only place for a normal chat window is in the lower left corner above the menu button. Just not-customizing friendly.
- Allow us to select a party member from the compass, and/or highlight party member dot if that player is selected.
- Party display: fade-out or grey-out or whatever, so we know which party members are not near us / same area / instance. Great to know in a sec wich players are not near, who are we waiting for when half the party is inside a RAID already.
- Sell us a scroll book from the DDO Store to put our scrolls in. Clicking on the scroll book will pop up a list of scrolls that you can then drag to your toolbars - compare this with Protection from Elements spell where you can drag different elements out.
- Make an Arcane spellbook a physical item that we can inscribe scrolls into. Have this item persist through TRing so we don't need to waste time and money reacquiring scrolls that we've previously inscribed. Have separate sections for wizard, sorcerer and artificer spells, and allow it to double up as a scroll book folder!
- Sell us a potion bandolier from the DDO Store that we can put our potions in and select potions directly from.
- Sell us a spell component bag from the DDO Store that we can put any spell component in and that spell components will automatically be taken from when spells are cast.
- Remove the weight from Khyber and Siberys Dragonshards. Carrying a gargantuan bag that is full of stuff but weighs 200lbs because of dragonshards makes no sense.
- Give us options to search and sort the Reincarnation Cache. Allow us to sort it by name and level. If we currently don't meet the ML requirements for an item, set the name of the item to be red, not just displaying a red box around it.
- Give us options to search and sort the Shared Bank.Allow us to sort it by name and level. If we currently don't meet the ML requirements for an item, set the name of the item to be red, not just displaying a red box around it. (Search option exists, but no filter or ML indicator)
- Allow us to see a character sheet for Hireling similiar to pets.
- Allow us to take a hireling out in a pub and reset their currently loaded spells.
- Allow us to equip gear onto hirelings, when the hireling leaves the party, the gear is returned to the owner.
- Allow us to set a "follow distance" on hirelings so they don't stand next to us and get their butts handed to them quite as often
- Allow us to set a "HP tolerance" on hirelings that heal - at the moment they will only use a cure or heal if we can get full benefit from it - I would want them to auto-heal everyone at the end of an encounter.
- Allow us to give hirelings potions and scrolls that we can equip to their toolbar. Any unused would be returned at the end of their contract.
- Provide hirelings with meta-magic feats where appropriate.
- Remove the need to have the figurine to access the final explorer and rare out in the Restless Isles. Allow an option to bribe the wildman with platinum or shiny kobold beads instead. Or make the rare a 100% spawn chance so that you don't need to farm the chest in the Shrieking Mines over and over until he decides to show up.
- Provide an option to temporarily reduce your character level to 15 or 20 to allow you to complete House Cannith challenges without suffering crippling penalties on XP and ingredients.
- Remove the cap on maximum Dodge bonus - if a character is specced to maximise Dodge then they should be allowed to benefit from that, at the cost of the other things they choose not to have.
- Allow Greensteel crafted items to have augment slots crafted onto them. Would this mean Epic Vale of Twilight and Epic Shroud would be needed to allow this?
- Increase the House Cannith crafting levels from 150 to 200 and allow us to craft all high level effects not currently available - make an ingredient for these high level recipes an item which already has the effect you want to distill into a shard
- DO NOT reset the counter for Epic Moments whenever we transition within a quest - for example The Portal Opens. For some quests, it makes these counters and therefor the Epic Moments completely useless. Moving from a wilderness area into a quest - fine, reset it like any other buff, but within a quest?
- DO NOT reset the counter for Epic Moments whenever a DD is used to transition within a quest.
- Add an option to the DDO Store to let us upgrade Large bags to Huge bags, Huge to Gargantuan etc etc for a fraction of the cost of a new bag.
- Make all bags purchased from the store BTA instead of BTC.
- Make all existing BTC bags BTA.
- Allow us to change the colour of our bags.
- Allow us to label our bags
- Allow guilds to post notices in taverns to advertise for players, allow an auto-inguild option to be selected for guilds that wish automatic recruitment.
- Add portraits to guild airships that guild officers can update with custom images.
- Allow bards the option to select different tunes to be associated with their bard songs.
- Re-introduce under-level XP bonusses for characters doing quests above their character level as an addition to the first-time bonus.
- Add an item to the DDO Store that lets us colour a colourless augment slot. Charge TP for it. Make money.
- Prevent potion and other counters that should not count down in public areas from losing seconds during loading screens.
- Remove any party XP loss caused by the death of any first life toon in your party.
- Remove any party XP loss caused by the death of any second life toon in your party, make this a personal XP loss only.
- On a first life toon, give the "Elite bravery bonus streak" XP on Normal, Hard and Elite Difficulties.
- On a second life toon, give the "Elite bravery bonus streak" XP on Hard and Elite Difficulties, and the "Hard bravery bonus streak" on Normal difficulties.
- On a third life toon, keep the current Elite and Hard streak XP exactly as it is.
- Allow enhancement level 16+ items to be put in an Altar of Devastation to charge a Deplected High Energy Cell, don't restrict to enhancement level 15 as the maximum.
- In UI Options, remember "Justify Left" is unticked when new characters are created. UI Options will not vary by character, set them once at account level and be done with it.
- UI Layout - remember where the "Challenge Score" window is placed and let us save it as part of the UI settings. Mine appears under the toolbars I place at the top of the window and has to be moved each time - or just append it to the Objectives box and fix it there. If the "bottom" of the window is too difficult because it's moveable, fix it to the top of the Objectives box.
- Allow party members to nominate another person to "donate" their challenge reward to. This will encourage guilds to help new players earn challenge rewards.
- Correct % displayed in Effects, for example: (Effects): --- Condition modifier to Incorporeal Miss Chance: +100,025%
- Resize windows to display all text, for example Adventure Compendium's Challenges tab - Purple Dragon Knight doesn't display.
- There are 13 random encounters in the High Road - wilderness list only shows 12.
- On the character sheet skills tab, highlight class skills in the brighter white text used for Feats and Enhancements, leave non-class skills in the darker grey.
- On the character sheet skills tab, add more columns to give proper details on the "Misc mod" column.
- Allow us to see a ransack timer for chests when we "Z" examine them.
- Allow VIP players to see which Packs and other account features they have purchased while Premium or as part of some other bundle they have purchased (e.g. Menace of the Underdark Collector Edition).
- Have the Haggle skill affect the cost or rewards for collectible traders
- Allow arrows and bolts to be put onto toolbars while they remain in quivers, to provide an option to fast-swap different projectiles to suit different situations. Quivers would still auto-gather when different ammo is swapped to keep inventory clear.
- Add details below elemental resistance for elemental absorption.
- Add negative energy and light resistance and absorption options to the character sheet
- Increase the absorption shards that can be crafted from negative, fire and electricity to all energy types including light.
- Allow Cannith crafted shards to be turned into a colourless augment gem using high level crafting.
- When an undead bursts from a sarcophagus, count it as a breakable for quest XP bonusses - see The Crypt of Gerard Dryden for a perfect example.
- When an item is returned after an auction expires, include in the message the player's bid and buyout prices.
- When any undelivered message is returned, tell us who it was sent to in the subject.
- Change the colour of the health bar from red to purple for any party member in undead form.
- Add the missing orc emotes - clap and laugh being two.
- Update Cannith Crafting to include all prefix and suffix mutations.
- Allow high level Cannith Crafting to craft Guild slots onto random items.
- Allow high level Cannith Crafting to craft Augment slots onto random items.
- Allow high level Cannith Crafting to change the colour of the augment slot on an item.
- Allow high level Cannith Crafting to add double prefix or double suffix
- Allow high level Cannith Crafting to create increased level of Masterwork to reduce the ML of items - only as a BTC option
- Allow high level Cannith Crafting to add high level mutations by taking an item with that mutation as one of the ingredients, effectively sacrificing an item in order to distil a shard from it.
- Allow scrolls, potions and spellcasting devices to be crafted - opportunity to increase the use of collectibles and ingredients, integrating the old and new crafting systems.
- Increase number of teleport options for Teleport and Greater Teleport spells.
- Update Dragonmark of Passage to give same teleport options as Teleport spell.
- Add a tab to the Adventure Compendium to let us see easily our progress on different Saga's, detailing the number of points, points needed for next reward level and which quests have been done on each difficulty
- Hotkeys - Allow us to personalize hotkey designations for each character. At the moment if you designate "Ctrl+R" to a certain hotkey it persists through all of your toons. Supposedly this functionality can be done through manual input. Please add it to the internal code so that players who aren't familiar with code can enjoy the function as well with the press of a button.
- Make channel membership persist through TR.
- cosmetic head gear does not auto-show every single time you log in.
- power attack, stalwart defense and many other stances don't auto-turn off every single time you log in.
- the adventure compendium remembers the sort order or at least sorts by level by default.
- arrows don't mysteriously migrate from quiver to inventory periodically
- search fields on augment bags
- Fix that annoying message when you are heroic and bring up the Epic Destinies dialog by mistake.
- And for the love of God, let me enter a quest anyway when someone else in the party is under level.
What would you consider to be "quality of life" fixes?
