Default Divine Acrobat - a Selfhealing Centered Qstaff-Pally

Below you find a pastlife build: A centered acrobat with a paladin PL. The selfhealing options have been toned down since Cocoon is good enough.

Rogue is pretty front loaded to get access to Staff Specialization at level 12. Paladin level 4 offers Divine Might, which is worth getting at level 9ish.

    -----
For the sake of completeness, here's the old version:

    1 Toughness
    1M Power Attack
    1H Cleave
    3 Force of Personality
    6 Empower Healing
    6M Two-Handed Fighting
    9 Great Cleave
    12 IC: Bludgeoning
    15 Adept of Forms
    18 Master of Forms
    21 Improved Two-Handed Fighting
    24 Greater Two-Handed Fighting
    26 Perfect Two-Handed Fighting
    27 Overwhelming Critical
    28 Elusive Target

As you can see, I wasn't able to fit in OC and pTHF due to Monk feat and BAB restrictions. I opted for the former, because this is more beneficial for the Smites. If you see an option to include both feats, please let me know.

Please ignore the feat selection in the progression below.

I'm not sure why you took rog @ lvl 14 instead of 1; is that a BAB or skill pt issue?

Also, PTHF is an ED feat, not a regular epic feat; can't you take that instead of Holy Strike?

Rogue was taken at 14 to maximize skill points spent for UMD - the only other skills I want to get in this build (and have points for) are Heal and Concentration, both of which are not Rogue class skills.

Gah. Of course, pTHF isn't even competing with OC in regards to the feat slot and I can take it instead of holy strikes. The OP will be changed accordingly.

Also, if you're willing to delay Emp Heal, you can get the THF feats sooner: move GC to lvl 6, ITHF to lvl 9, GTHF to lvl 21, Emp Heal to lvl 24.

That's a nice option as well if you plan to level this kind of build. The feat and class order in the OP is motivated by the fact that I have a Paladin which I want to LR, thus the exact order of feats isn't that important to me. However, if there is anyone interested in playing this split as well, that's certainly a decent option.

Thanks for your most valuable input, unbongwah.

The attack speed doesn't show up on char sheet or effects list so not sure it is working. Also acrobat gets crit mult now so acrobat 5 may be better than henshin 5.

More Rogue levels are another interesting option.
But then 5 Monk offers access to more abilities from the shintao tree, most prominently more Devotion and HealAmp, which is why I'd rather go 5mnk/1rog than 5rog/1mnk. But I have to be honest, I didn't make a straight comparison of what acrobat offers vs. henshin.

    tier 5 henshyn> tier 5 acrobat

they have the same +1 multiplier/+1 threat
henshyn gives void strike, acrobat gives vault (or lolt if u prefer)

to the op: don't forget getting tier 4 acrobat vicious or whatever, stacks with sense weakness so add more rogue lvls

also remove the thf line, its' useless for staves(and glancing blows are prolly borked yet, on august right before u19, they were borked yet)

also zeal isn't that big deal, most suff will prolly die with a rotation of cleave, gcleave, lay waste and momentum swing (fury isn't a good idea for staves, same as thf line, mostly because the weapon dice)

before the update the acrobat was insane dps based on aoe dps, if u keep philosophy now, it's pure madness (also wind + 15% spees from acrobat is enough speed for a single target)

also if possible i would do only 1 rogue, 1 monk,4 pally, rest monk lvls, rest rogue lvls, rest pally

so u start getting the benefits of the acrobat at lvl 1 (4 ap spent on acrobat gives u the 15% speed, hit 2, take wind stance, then aim for DM, get rest of monk feats/forms, aim for tier 4 acrobat, get rest of pally lvls)
psykopeta is finally baconpletionist because there isn't anything to delay it more - thelanis, where the gimps claim to be pros and noobs claim to be pros, no newbies allowed(unless they claim to be pros), we have enough drama w/o them. PS: I post only in the latest thread shown in main page, in the weird case u want something from me, feel free to send pm

I currently have a 10 rogue 6 monk 4 paladin q-staff user. 4 paladin give me divine might and the ability to use cocoon. I am pleased with this character overall. I am not sure other then zeal which is only 10% what more paladin levels then 4 give you. You only have 14 paladin levels so your smites are mediocre. You are passing up a lot of dps for the paladin icon not to mention improved evasion and other nice things.

I'm aware of the fact that Cleaves don't produce glancing blows with staves, but as far as I know, regular swings (if standing still) with a QStaff will produce Glancing Blows, won't they?

It's an overall package: Pally Past life, CSW, Restoration Clickies, extra damage against evil mobs (1d6 more than 4 pally), a reasonable damage bonus on smites.

They're supposed to, like any other 2H weapon, but they were borked pre-U19, IIRC; haven't checked to see if they were fixed. If not, then the Imp Glancing Blows enhs from Acrobat tree are completely useless to staff builds.

A quick update - I've leveled to 14 now, and there are some things I like a lot, and some things I don't like that much:

    Likes:
Divine Might. It's an awesome clickie to increase your Str.
Ghost Touch and extra damage against all evil mobs.
Exalted Smite. Dealing 300 damage on a crit with a quarterstaff at level 11 is a nice thing.

    Don't likes:
Monk levels are taken rather late, which makes a huge part of the Henshin tree unaccessible up to level 15.
While KotC has some nice abilities, they are rather on the top of the tree, which makes the KotC tree rather stat-intensive.
5 Monk means that you don't get access to Shadow Veil.

    Preliminary Conclusions:

Don't level the build from the OP. Delaying Paladin in favor of rogue and monk would be a far more sensible progression. I'm tending towards 6Monk/6Rogue/8Paladin for the next life, which has still Divine Might and which works as a Pally Past life.

Cleave attacks don't give glancing blows for quarterstaves. Regular hits and at least the few single-target hits I tested procced glancing blows. Makes the 2hf line less useful for qstaffers, but not useless.

Yep. With 12 rogue, you can get knockdown/slippery immunity from acrobat tree, making it a no-brainer to take over henshin.

Even disregarding the 12-rogue immunities, I still prefer acrobat tree over henshin. Quick Strike is better in acrobat tree, 12 second cooldown as opposed to 20seconds in henshin. Less wasted points, and I like having a leap more often than every 10 minutes. Void Strike looks nice enough, but is it really worth 10 ap? The four 2-point prerequs don't really look like anything I'd ever use.

Yeah, I'm torn on this one. Henshin also gets Every Light Casts a Shadow. IMO Henshin tier 5s are better than Acrobat tier 5s, but the rest of the tree is decidedly lacking by comparison. Still, is the ability to spam negative levels and possible insta-kills (no save) enough to make the case for Henshin? I mean, you can take 12 rogue, 5 monk and still get knockdown immunity and tier 5s from Henshin. I'm inclined to agree with you on acrobat though, APs are too precious to just throw away about 10 pts worth.

Building up a finisher takes some time, as the ki moves have a timer. For most mobs while leveling I had the feeling that this wasn't needed. In EEs probably, where HPs are inflated and casters are happy about reduced DCs. But I guess for EHs it's easier just to spam Fists of Iron instead of using the light finisher.

Personally, I found the tier 5 Hensins rather uninteresting, but I have to admit that I skipped the Void Strike line as the APs were to sparse for that.

    Hi,
Perhaps you could share the enhancements that go towards this build? : )
Also, the gearing needed as well.

    Thanks!

    I'm interested too.

I had started to experiment with a "Hurtlocker" a (long) while ago, and am wondering how a warforged version of this will fare - or if I'll need to eat the free heart.
