Ravenloft Drop Rate Sucks

So (9) months ago, I began farming some ranger gear from Ravenloft.
Its been brutal to say the least.

I brought this up in a post a few weeks ago, mentioning that the drop rate felt more like 2%/4%/6%.
I am now thoroughly disgusted enough to start recording the drop data.

Here are my last (731) drops, essentially the last (18) weeks and (43) complete saga runs.
These are recorded from (4) of my L30 characters to allow ransack to clear.
Nothing is ransacked here, nor am I performing chest rerolls with astral shards.

(18) weeks later, I'm still looking for my cursebane ring to drop on hard.

Data suggests that you have an approximate 2.48% chance to get the item you are after, not a 15% chance.
This is largely dependent on the item as well as the quest.
I suspect that the loot tables are skewed, giving preferential drop rates to less desirable gear.
Also, I suspect certain quests are bugged and have a far less chance to drop loot at all.

I meant count them in your napkin statistics. You are trying to tabulate named item drops in the chests, right? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the percentage drop rate (eg. 33% for Elite) included the BtA Weapons.

For example, you feel like the drop rates are 2/4/6 but you're clearly not counting any of the weapons that dropped. If you counted those, your drop rate might start to look something like the posted drop rates.

It sucks that most DDO's gear comes from RNG, but this is the way. It took me two months to get Legendary Crabshell Buckler, ransacking end chest every week on LE or even R1.
You did some quests only two times and did them on LH, it's now wonder that someone doing this would complain about bad drops.

I usually farm on elite with a full party.
State in LFM you are looking for it, your odds are quite high that it will be passed to you in the end.

If an item is then still not in your posession before ransacking, that's very rare (for me at least).

If you are farming alone or without a full group, or on hard or lower, then yes you are going to be looking for a long while.

If you want gear you run EE/R1 (best compromise between time to finish, droprate, and the tiny chance for a reaper bonus item) in a group (6 rolls of the dice per run is better than 1, even if only 1 other person is willing to pass the item that's potentially doubling your droprate).

Not many people run on LH or LE anymore, but I join groups when I can.
Reaper, not so much. Too tough for a squishy first or even third life char.

Most of the reaper runners are really lousy players as well.
They don't even kill things. They just run past them and rile them up.
They leave you behind trying to climb a spiral staircase with 10 monsters blocking you in.
That's no fun.

And just when I thought my opinion of them couldn't get lower,

Invitation to dinner, a quest I really struggle with.
Between Strahds Hate stealing all my HP, the four acid dragons at the end and a **** ton of negative levels in between.

Was looking for cursebane trinket. Struggled the entire time, but stayed back and healed others where I could.
Was totally not fun for me, but I was at least not a detriment to the group.
Near the end, I made mention that I was looking for it and asked for a pass if they could.
Someone got it so I started to type, asking if I could have it should they not need it.
'sry am out' he said. He had already exited without passing. Just left it in the chest.

Whatever, that's all beside the fact that a 6% drop rate for gear is abysmally low.
It should not take over (4) months to farm up (12) items.
That's why I titled the thread like I did. Ravenloft drop rate sucks.

Indeed getting loot can be a pain. Here some tips for getting loot quicker.

Join a guild and ask in guild chat for chest pullers, personally I am normally be happy to come and do pulls when there will be at least 4 runs. Running out to a quest for just one run is kinda pointless.

Target short quests, Cogs walk ups are good for this, but the shorter the trip to the end chest the better.

Build a set of first life pullers, I can solo Sharn and RL on my lvl30 Vistani EK. Being undead and having auto regen makes solo EE a lot easier. This will get the gear snow ball rolling, as an example I have Ruinious Schemes down to 3 mins 45s per run. Now what do I do with 10 circlets and no bulwark I wonder...

People can not be very attentive, so state in the LFM looking for X, say it when you step into the quest and say it again when you hit the chest. Press return then up arrow to repeat the last chat command. FYI new people this info as they join the group.

If repeats are not possible with the group you have try to run the entire saga in one sitting, people seem to like the saga groups more it seems. Know what drops where and FYI everybody at every chest.

Offer to pass all other items as a compromise, if X drops I would like it but i'm happy to pass you everything else for sentient food. That sort of thing.

For solo really its a case of having a few EE cheese builds, EK for example and just getting the run times down.

Keep a tally chart or log of what chests you opened and when, you get 8 pulls per week before ransack. I like to pick a time slot and target a single chest for 8 pulls, then either give up and wait a week or log another alt and do the 8 with them. E.g this week I am at 4/8 on Magma must flow for Dragon Scale armor.

If you have heals run R1 / R2 for more joiners and just play healer, your group will love you and you will constantly be thanked for heals, what do we do for the ones we love? That's right, we give them gifts! Soon you have 10 RP as well. Blues are BTA making this easier. My healer is currently looking for Face Plate from Just Business. FYI you can drag the party health bars to the center of the screen to make clicking names easier.

Invitation Specific:

Curse pots remove the HP drain effect, the first dinner fight can be skipped with DD. Shadow dancer has DD in the destiny if that's any use to you.

Grab a hire or cast Death Ward some other way to protect against negative effects or be undead. UMD resto scrolls, or have a hire with restoration.

Have your fortune told and use the table on the wiki to get an exit that is not the Main Entrance, https://ddowiki.com/page/An_Invitation_to_Dinner if the cards give you Main Entrance exit leave and reset the instance.

Grab the Ally first to reveal the key stone location.

On the same wiki page have the map open on monitor 2 or your ipad or something to ensure you never get lost.

A special mention for first life reaper healer, healing low reaper is super simple, 16 FVS 4 PAL, Sacred Defender stance, take 20% HP and +6 CON from PAL. Easy mode low reaper heals with 2k HP, 200 PRR and 100MRR. That's easily enough to play low R1 / R2. 3K Heal Spell, 2K Mass Cure Mod and 10K heals from divine wrath. When you play healer in reaper you see almost everyone in pugs killed constantly which makes you feel better.

If your on Cannith add Wanatuti for EU time zone chest pulling fun super heals.

They shouldn't take the spot of a named item. OP is right, because of these, the odds of getting a specific named item is worst than in any other quests with the "new" droprate. Diluting the loot pool for named with sentient xp is bad.

OP is creating a false narrative regarding "named" drop rates if he is not including the BTA Morninglord's /Barovian , Nightmother's/Macabre weapons.
IMO One of the best items in RL is the BTA NightMother's sceptre

I am not including items you can either get for free or just buy outright. That's not what I call rare.

So Morninglords are free. You buy the expansion, run 'into the mists', and there he is giving you one.
Night mothers are decent. Not gonna argue that, but anyone with enough totems can buy one from the vendor.
I can't consider either of those a rare offering. It could be considered an uncommon should you need (2).

The only reason I'm plodding through those quests for (4) months is to get that unique content.

I'm nearing a hundred chests now, and will post the new drops sometime this week.

For the Devs those Morninglord's and Nightmother's weapons count as Nameed Items in the drop tables... so yes, should be included in the test... if liked or not is subjetive...
Anyway I also think LH drops sucks... in Ravenloft and in Sharn...
Feywild has a rather good drop rate in LH... don't know why... maybe because is new??
