Morninglord cleric build (Advice please)

Hi

I'm looking to crank out 3 sun elf lives and not intending to stay at cap long (just a bit to get some more reaper points... currently 35) but would like a bit of input to enhancements, feat and stat distribution. 36pt build with +8 Supreme Tome.

Main questions are around dipping in to Falconry and Feydark at the expense of RS.
I've tried to max light spellpower (hence dipping in to racial tree) for both light and fire (domain)
Originally I thought I'd go very deep in to RS tree (T5 and core 6 ... maybe do some turning?!?) and forego DD T5 and last core. Holy smite + Firestorm should be enough for everything right?? So Flamestrike and word of balance would be redundant. In the end, the other elements of DD seemed too good to ignore

Will wear flamecleansed fury set, pendant of azure sky and a bunch of other sharn stuff...... then some borderlands gear etc. (usual culprits)

Master of wilds is for +10 lvl to word of balance.

For Domains you'd largely want Fire as Firestorm as a 7SP SLA is way too good to pass up and along with Flamestrike SLA and Holy Smite SLA you can crank up the metamagic and have cheap blasts with Bombardment and Divine Wrath being the more expensive big flashy buttons. Points not spent in DD can go inside Feydark for the extra spellpower, GCS and maybe even crits.

Yep, burn to 30 (pike some r8-r10's for reaper xp ) rinse and repeat and then on to something else. Probably Dragonborn FVS and then I'll have the +30 light damage from stance. Good to know RS would be redundant as suspected

Just remember when you get to 24 you are going to have to choose between Master of Alignment and Master of Light. MoA will raise your Holy Smite / Wrath / Hammer MCL from 10 to 20, which at 24 is 12 to 22 for +83% damage to a cheap AoE, at 30 it would be 15 to 25 for 66.6% damage increase. Same type of increase for Searing Light which you might have to consider at 27 or 30. Both will use the higher of Fire or Light spellpower. Word of Balance already comes with MCL20 and you don't get any other +CL increases outside of Epic ones.

The two classes I used the most for my racial completionist was FVS and Cleric, it's much easier now with the newer EA / DI and Epic Knowledge feats.

And you still have similar fire power for things like celestial bombardment since you get +2 fire & light per cleric level from Sun domain. Also I dip heavier into DD because the meta reductions are so good on a cleric. Also that resplendent fury orb is so OP on a light based cleric/fvs nuker while leveling.

Level 2: You gain +2 Fire Spell Power (Combustion) per Cleric Level.
Your fire spells will use light Spell Power if it is higher. Your light spells will use Fire Spell Power if it is higher.
Your Turn Undead works on Elementals.
Upon Turning: When you use Turn Undead your party gains points of Fire Resistance equal to twice your Cleric level for 20 seconds.
Level 5: You gain Scorching Ray as an SLA. 4 SP, 6 second cooldown.
Level 9: You gain Wall of Fire as an SLA. 15 SP, 30 second cooldown.
Level 14: You gain Firestorm as an SLA. 8 Spell Points, 8 second cooldown.

It also gives Firestorm as a SLA for 8SP / 8s recast, Firestorm is 1D6+8 per CL and the strongest spamable nuke that Cleric gets.

Seriously Sun Domain is a huge noob trap as a nuking domain, Fire and Air both give so much more while running DD when the goal is to reach 30.

And someone says "buuhhh sunnbuuurrrst", Sunburst is bad damage for a level 8 spell, 1D6+4 or 7.5.

Firestorm is 1D6+8 or 11.5, 11.5/7.5 = 1.53, meaning Firestorm is 53% stronger as an offensive spell while being only 8SP for a fully meta'd SLA. At best Sunburst provides a defensive buff as it's blind forces monsters, who are vulnerable to blind, to treat everyone as having 50% displacement effect. Of course DD Cleric gets this spell at 18 anyway and it's debuff effect is just as effective without SLA Loading. Sunbeam SLA is the only real benefit as it's a decent upgrade to searing SLA in mid heroics for single target light damage, but again Cleric gets Sunbeam is a regular spell in DD.

I've played both Light and Fire domain Clerics. I don't know that I'd say light casters are "terrible" considering all you can get out of Exalted Angel, but I am doing what nobodynobody described: a Sun Elf healer that leans on light evocation for offense. It doesn't have the punch of a dedicated light caster (or Fire caster), but with healing it can hold its own. When I did a fire-spec'd cleric I did it as a Tiefling. Most of the interesting enhancements like Hellish Rebuke and Obscuring Darkness didn't seem to be worth the points and I deleted them. On the other hand, I loved Improved Scorch. With the ability to strip fire resistance and double-distance light rays it felt like a complete evocation package.

But when you compare fire vs. light? Yep, Fire is the superior choice, even for Sun Elf I expect. EA is neutral with respect to fire or light spec'd, and Fire Domain means you don't care whether you're casting fire or light spells during the heroic leveling process either. Fire gives you so many more attack options, better DPS all for the cost of a little CC, and for equipment you have to figure out how to squeeze in two kinds of Spell Lore to improve crits.

I definitely want to try a Fire Domain cleric evoker again with the new Destinies.

I'ts not Fire vs Light, it's the Sun Domain vs the other offensive domains. The central issue is that Divine Disciple already gives you what you would get out of Sun Domain, it makes it almost a wasted choice. Searing Light / Sun Beam / Sun Burst are part of the DD cores and Searing Light is even given as an SLA early on. Cleric and FVS are both multi-element casters, they use Fire, Light/Alignment and Force spells so we want a Domain that compliments those. Now in your case, running a healer spec in Radiant with none of the stuff out of DD, and in that scenario Sun Domain actually gives you a good set of offensive power. Imagine trying to run in RS while also having the Healing Domain, see how much of that overlaps and is almost made redundant? Same relationship between DD and Sun Domain. Fire / Air are the preferred offensive domains because they compliment Divine Disciple, though Airs Chain Lightning gets less useful in epics if running in DI Fire vs something like PA. +4 Evo DC can't be argued against.

Umm…some incorrect logic here:

1.) Sun gives +2 to light and fire per level. No need to pick the higher of the 2 as your radiance naturally will be higher in DD. Moot point. Also morning lord gives more light spell power which is the title of this.

2.) Sunburst has a MCL of 25 whereas Fire storm is 20. The damage is not far off when maxed CL. Additionally sunburst blinds and it’s safe and appropriate to open on a mob if some survive. Don’t compare morninglord sunburst to the domain SLA as they are different.

3.) Searing Light is a good SLA and this saves you to spend points elsewhere in DD since there is so much there you don’t have to drop the 3 there to get.

4.) and yes sunbolt is great. There is nothing in fire good other than fire storm from an SLA perspective.

Sunburst is added to your spell book in DD it’s not an SLA. Not the same.

MCL's above 20 don't really matter much for Divines as there is no way to actually get them.

Cleric DD gives +2CL/MCL

Epic Knowledge gives +5CL/MCL

Sunburst isn't considered a divine spell so that neck won't work, neither is it an arcane spell so the filigree won't work either. The bard song works though for +1 morale bonus.

The results are +7CL/MCL for Firestorm resulting in 27CL's and 310.5 base damage. Sunburst has, at best, has 20+7+1 for 28 and 210 base damage, 47.8% less. Seriously 1D6+4 is really hurting Sunburst as a damage spell, compared to all the other higher end spells. Holy Smite, which doesn't have CL/MCL from DD, and on MoA, is 10+5 for 15 and 172 base damage. With MoA is becomes 10+10+5 for 287.5 base damage, double on most outsiders. Same with Order's Wrath and Chaos Hammer, interesting note is that Holy Smite / Chaos Hammer now properly treat reapers as Lawful Evil Outsiders and do double damage at 575 base.

So yes Sunburst really is that bad as a DPS spell, and Firestorm SLA at 8SP is just that good, especially cause you can then double cast it while Bombardment is on CD. Sun Domain is a noob trap for folks who don't understand how elemental damage works in DDO. Anyhow OP has their answer.

Because u play starting at 15 i suggest any domain giving +4 to evocation dc
Or any defensive: one get 300 hit point, one get displacement, one get 25 prr mrr.

I suggest taking even spell cost reduction for quicken 6 ap
6 ap for 30 light spell in morninglotds is too much i will drop this
I usually use all 3/4 divine wraths spell quicken +sla
Heighten is too expensive for cleric, check if during first life color spray work without it.

U didn put epic destinies... Going with draconic attack? (U like fire)
In alternative primal attack withfire is very good.
Pillar is single target, not so good for levelling

Fire domain Clerics are hot. I played a Sun Elf Fire build right after domains came out and it destroyed stuff. This even though Firestorm had a peculiar targeting bug at the time that occasionally launched the storm far in the distance.

I particularly recommend playing one if you want to grind The Night Revels. Lots of instantly dead packs at +6 levels.

I’m trying this out for the same reason as OP— I want to knock out Cleric and Morninglord lives together. Did Sharn 1, 2 and Cogs on R1 and rolled pretty well. Was in a pug though with some strong players so real test will be when I solo. The one negative is that some of the spells seem to take forever to cast.

Don’t own Feydark and haven’t opened it with favor yet so going into Radiant Servant to supplement DD.

Using Flametouched gear with other Sharn stuff. Had Resplendant orb but no good Fire item so crafted a weapon with Combustion and Fire Lore and crafted boots with Spellsight and Ins Spellsight.

Also, didn’t take Heighten or Enlarge at 12 and 15 but instead Evo and Greater Evo.

On a general note I enjoyed it a lot. It's been a month since I finished it so can't remember all the details but I do highly recommend both Heighten and Enlarge. A max / emp / heightened / quickened / enlarged firestorm from half a mile away gives great joy. Should anything survive that it's followed up with a max / emp / heightened / quickened / enlarged Holy Smite.

It's always subjective as to whether you need the extra umph from evo dc's based on past lives, tomes, gear and level of reaper content you are doing. Life immediately became more difficult in epics (I should say 'less easy') but I was also doing some higher level / higher than normal for me reaper levels. I did then wonder whether the extra 4 dc's from Air domain would have worked better (mob dependent). Master of alignment / light brings new life to holy smite and sunbeam (whatever the other low level sla was). But then you're also enjoying cometfall by this point. At some point mob hp are so high that instakillers were the order of the day

edit: quick note that heighten boost holy smite by 5 levels so more than evo dc's. But then evo dc's boost your level 9 spells (cometfall etc)

The Evocation bonus from the Magic Domain would of course be welcome by anyone and the chain missiles would be fun at level 5. However the spell point and universal spell power bonuses don't add much in my opinion.

The big dps spells for a cleric will involve either light or fire. The beautiful aoe Celestial Bombardment is a fire evo spell. As a caster Cleric you will undoubtedly use the Exalted Angel Epic Destiny which is all about light and fire. This opens up the awesome Holy Fire Ball, another fire spell; not forgetting the extra 15% chance of fire damage spells can gain from being in the Exalted Angel Destiny Mantle: Angelic Form. This leads us, once more, to the Fire Domain.

From Fire Domian you get +40 Fire Power (and therefore also light) which matches the +40 Universal Spell Power you get from Magic.

Therefore it's a choice between the +4 Evo and the three low cost Fire SLA's. Using SLA's means using less Spell Points negating the need to have the extra 200SP fom Magic.

With the Fire Domain, having to equip only one item of either combustion or radiance to cover both light and fire spells frees up a slot to equip a spell DC item.

Although I cannot disagree that +4 Evo spell DC is tempting, I think that the Fire Domain is more playable from level 1 through 30.

Magic Domain also gives "Upon Turning: When you use Turn Undead your party gains a Divine bonus to Universal Spell Power equal to twice your Cleric level for 20 seconds". Part of me Thinks that this with the +4 Evo DC would have more benefit than Fire domain when the going gets tougher (mobs making saves). Personally, I detest anything that's a short term clicky that I have to remember to invoke.... and an 8sp, 8 sec cd, fully meta'd firestorm is a wonderful thing
