Sacred Fist Whirling Steel Jedi

This is a build inspired by my favorite character Obi-Wan Kenobi. I wanted a monkish character that uses a long sword. This is a very fun build to play. I did a lesser after I reached Level 23 to take Whirling Steel Strike from Grand master of flowers. Or you could do a Fred Feat exchange. Take WSS as your Monk feat at level 6 and then switch to precision at level 23. This build has decent single target DPS and good defenses. 210Prr, 214 AC, 105 Mrr, 36% Dodge, and 3012 Hp. This is a Charisma build so divine might from war soul is great. I use prowess and sanctified fervor Filigrees with a haste boost for burst DPS. This character is a heroic completionist and a racial competionist, but is not past live dependent. Kodraith posted a similar build in the old forums. https://forums-old.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/536459-Kodraith-WSS-build

You are right the feat swap will not work, but that is why I did the Lesser. The Whirling Steel Strike comes from Grand Master of Flowers and you do not need the weapon focus for that.

Oh yeah, the rest of the build looks fine to me. Do you use a kama while leveling up? SF doesn't get kama proficiency but it's still a centering weapon regardless. And you only have to worry about the non-proficiency penalty until level 6 in this build.

Thanks for the link to my old build, I hadn't figured out where they'd stuck the content.

I hadn't considered this level split, I wanted the healing strike from Monk 3, but found it didn't really make a huge difference in self healing. Note that you might be able to also shoehorn in monks stances earlier instead of dodge/mobility. You'll likely be dodge capped by about 15, may as well take the stance feats instead.

I've also run a 6SF / 6 Monk / 8 Fighter build as SWF centered with bastard swords. (you can run it as 6/6/6 +2 whatever you need the past life in, but 8 fighter is likely the best choice). That build is nice because yo can also swap out to any heavy blade if you have a large greatsword collection (which you likely do).

Very similar vibe with more DPS and worse self healing and saves. In that case you take T5 in Kensai and T4 in SF. I needed a fighter life, so I went PDK, but it would work with any race. You pick up the strikethrough at 31 with the 2HF feat. Although I found I was cleaving so much it didn't change the dynamics that much.

The biggest loss from weaponized monks seems to be the CC stunning fist / crowd control. You kinda just don't have any. But both builds were hella fun to play and very fast (in both run speed and trash killing).

Note that you might be able to also shoehorn in monks stances earlier instead of dodge/mobility.
The issue is the BAB / level requirements for various feats:
  • Knight's Training (or Swords to Plowshares): BAB 4
  • Adept/Master/GM of Forms: minimum levels 6/12/18
  • Improved Critical + Offhand Versatility: BAB 8
  • ISWF+GSWF: BAB 6/11
So you have 2 to 4 feats at levels 1-3 (depending on race and when you splash monk); but then you've got 8 different feats competing for levels 6-18.

My goal this past hardcore league was to experiment with a similar SF/monk/FV build with a Jedi flair. I'm a first-life player and mostly played solo and made it to level 11 but found the playstyle fun and pretty powerful. I was going to take the monk master feats but ended up taking Dragonmark of passage so I would have a HC escape route but ended up only needing DD for the Thernal dwarf rescue quest. Here is my current plan. My highest character is a 23 level THF paladin so I don't know the epic quests well. I have fellblade and it was part of the reason I went with this build. The monk mastery feats seem expensive but seem tempting. What is the advantage of taking that chain? When I get whirling steel strike from the GMoF tree I might switch out whirling steel for discipline as it seems to help in the GMoF tree. Here is the currrent plan and I welcome comments!

1 : Weapon Focus: Slashing
1 Human : Single Weapon Fighting
3 : Precision
3 Monk : Whirling Steel Strike
6 : Least Dragonmark: Passage
9 : Improved Single Weapon Fighting
12 : Knight's Training
15 : Greater Single Weapon Fighting
18 : Improved Critical: Slashing
21 Epic : Overwhelming Critical
22 Destiny: Perfect Single Weapon Fighting
24 Epic : Burst of Glacial Wrath
25 Destiny: Hellball
27 Epic : Ruin
28 Destiny: Embodiment of Law
30 Epic : Greater Ruin
30 Legend :
31 Destiny:

2 Deity : Follower of: Sovereign Host

When I get to GMoF and get Wihrling Steel Strike, I might respec to look something like this below. It misses out on Offhand Versitality but I like the idea of having a CC ability (Burst of Glacial Wrath) that can use my charisma modifier. I don't need the Dragonmark of Passage as I have the 20-sided teleport die if I was really in a pinch. Also, any good ideas for cosmetic cloth armor that gives a Jedi look?

1 : Discipline
1 Human : Single Weapon Fighting
3 : Precision
3 Monk : Dodge
6 : Adept of Forms
9 : Improved Single Weapon Fighting
12 : Knight's Training
15 : Greater Single Weapon Fighting
18 : Master of Forms
21 Epic : Grandmaster of Forms
22 Destiny: Perfect Single Weapon Fighting
24 Epic : Improved Critical: Slashing
25 Destiny: Elusive Target
27 Epic : Overwhelming Critical
28 Destiny: Embodiment of Law
30 Epic : Burst of Glacial Wrath
30 Legend : Scion of: Celestia
31 Destiny:

long live ROGUE
I did a split on harcore 7 I think, it was 2 rogue/3 monk/15 sacred fist WSS, elf for longsword profiency and high Dex. I took the longswords as soon as possible so as to grab the Nightforged avenger blades and get the awesome crit profile (with Knight's training and IC slash you are at 15-20/3; this gets a double buff when you get Holy Sword much later). I liked the sacred fist AoE damage as I found myself in the teens; in early levels I had a lot of imbue damage between rogue and monk bonuses too. So everything scaled nicely in such a way as I had good continuous defenses and DPS. I went dex-based for a crazy AC and reflex save (and I like to sneak around anyway). So it went lowbie levels-->unarmed with imbues; mid levels--> Longswords (really just the Nightforged); later levels longswords with various other boosts. It worked great.

I like that approach as well! I used the feydark tree and shadowblades early and then took the AP out of that tree once I had divine dream.
