Your best bet is to put points into Eldritch Knight and equip a large shield and (eventually) medium armor. This is assuming still in heroics.

Seems like we had similar ideas lol. The reduced saves for Epic monsters, sure. But not the health they lost after their max HP was reduced. Level draining is still good in heroics.
