Agreed. I think those dev resources would have been better spent elsewhere, like adding more variety to the quests instead of more of the same.
Neverwinter takes the best approach to the size of their wilderness areas IMO - scaled down but really packed with elements.
Sometimes I think DDO...
I have also noticed brutal (30+ second) lag in association with breaking large amounts of boxes in certain quests (Prove your Worth, Catastrophe). It seems there is something to it.
Bit of unfortunate timing on lag, as they should be spending developer resources on making sure we can all transfer to 64-bit.
Hopefully the real root cause is that more people are playing :)
I enjoy Neverwinter from time to time when I need a break from DDO as I am a sucker for D&D lore, plus the GFX are like a wash of Visine after looking at DDO's textures for too long.
Gameplay is twitch/active which is my style.
DDO is still my game though, I have confidence they will fix the...
Could be me, but breaking large number of boxes always seems to lag. Catastrophe, Prove Your Worth Puzzle room .. taking me like 30 seconds to register each box break.
Clearly, they put a lot of effort into most of the art, new mobs especially. The ruins landscape is pretty epic.
But, it mostly is a missed opportunity. I think SSG could benefit from better oversight on their game design process as their priorities seem off and things are slipping through that...
Maybe the landscape designers and the quest designers are different people who can't do both .. but I feel they should have taken 50% of the effort put into the wilderness and put that into the quests. Many of the quests are kind of plain.
Things which annoy me more than bugs:
- Lag - bring on the 64-bit servers!!
- Unncessary annoying paths to quests which cause me to never run them, i.e. Restless Isles, half of Stormhorns
- Substandard textures
It is quite rare that I encounter a bug that affects my enjoyment.
If I had to...
A little common sense goes a long way - they would not go to the trouble of creating 64-bit versions of DDO if it meant everyone had to start over from scratch.
The Severlin interview sounds like the deal to me. Do as much testing as you can with toons that aren't permanent, and when all is...
I'm not sure SSG even tries to sync with what WOTC is doing anymore .. given that WOTC already has a D&D MMO which puts out synergistic content.
Going to be very hard to to predict where they go next - what can they do which can re-use the most art assets? Dinosaurs were a large investment -...
