As per the guide DarkSkysz linked, that extra stuff that exceeds the bank's limit will go into a remove only overflow. The guide explains a lot of stuff.
Every character has to pack.
Packing empties the account stuff (shared/crafting/pets/mounts/astral shards) and packs them on the character. If you put new stuff in there, you can pack that new stuff on another character.
That looks like your graphics driver is crashing. Make sure your have the latest drivers installed for that. But step 10 may be your best bet to try first then other things from that checklist.
I don't know what specific crash you're getting. But try steps 20, 10, & 2. Then you can move onto trying other things from that list.

That'll be nice. My main account was already good on bank space, but I was dreading dealing with the TR cache on a few characters on my 2nd account. 60 slots should cover my needs at least and it'll make it easier to micro-manage BtA gear via my banking alts too.

Yes. When you pack the 1st character it empties the current shared stuff and packs it on them. If you then add new stuff to shared and pack a 2nd (or 3rd+) character, it packs the new stuff on that 2nd character and moves that new stuff with them.
If you're moving to only 1 world, you just pack (which packs all that shared stuff), transfer, and unpack. All the long winded stuff is if you're moving to multiple worlds, then you need plan out carefully so you don't move everything to Thrane if you also wanted some things in the shared bank...
