1st life monk for old man

Been on game quite a while(years) and honestly never messed with monk cause it seemed very confusing. Well now time to face fears. Need a monk that can be forgiving while being learned (if it exists) Historically have played the rogue/ bard roles (stealth) or kick the door in combat. Hope that gives direction for play style. Also needs to be first life and as tome free as possible. Too much to ask? Thanks for the help in advance.

Unless I'm missing something, that build takes no weapon style feats.
I would advise you to NOT use that build.

Do you have access to and want to use iconics?
Do you want to use staff? handwraps? swf? bow? thrower?
Do you have access to all the universal enhancement trees?
Will this build just be 1-20? Stay at cap? Go to cap then TR?
Do you intend to solo? pug? set group?
What difficulty do you think you'll be running?

Is that too many questions and you just want a build? :)

ok, let me answer your questions.
1) i am missing aasimr, razorclaw, and tabaxi but non iconic races fine because I have played most
2) staff or handwraps sound good
3)would love to go to cap and TR but realistically, 1-20 more likely and maybe to cap.
4) i play mostly solo or in a small (2) group
5) standard difficulties. reaper never interested me.
Hopefully that fleshes out better what I want, the questions really cleared up things. Now one question for you. Am I overlooking an option by not looking at sacred fist? or does that just muddy the water?

Sacred fist does have quite a bit of overlap with monk. Both can make decent pure or multiclass builds.

For easy levelling in heroics, I'd probably recommend a staff build with at least 1 level of rogue.
Thief acrobat gets a t1 enhancement that increases staff attack speed. Henshin mystic gets the same bonus, but only at lvl 20.
The reason for staff over handwraps, is it gets better aoe, and the single-target damage is probably comparable or even better in heroics, particularly without past lives or a lot of high-end gear.

Here's one possible build that takes 4 dragon lord for feats and the str trance:

15/4/1 Monk/Dragon Lord/Rogue
Lawful Neutral Half-Orc

one clarification. unless I missed something, which i may have, what is to be the lvl 4 feat you suggest? it is not on the build and only options are fists of light or fists of darkness. Maybe that is simple but I want to get this right.
