Hello,

The exp on heroic is complete garbage logic. I just wanted to say that really lol. I can't tell you how much fun I've had on DDO but having to repeat sagas because I don't own all of them and forced to deal with this clear pay wall after I've spent well over $600 now on my account and my wife's ($1,200) dollars mind you. So as someone who very much enjoyed DDO love the game the 100% increase in heroic exp is the worst MMO design logic I have ever seen in my entire life. At first I didn't care too much and it didn't really bother me. But now honestly redoing sagas right after I did them because I haven't bought the new ones man it's worse than a dumpster fire. I have played through the game 8 times now and repeated sagas in the past on legendary which is fine, but doing it in heroics is pure torture. So yeah, I dropped the game my wife and I really just are so bored of trying to find exp from quest and being under leveled because we don't have isle of dread, limbordia, or any of the newer stuff.

I get if you already have 100 past life's or something but as someone who just hit 8... Yeah I can tell you something, as a normal person with a life working 8-5 every m-f with church, and other things going on ain't no way. I can see why people quit after 8 past life's, I didn't think it was that big of a wall but it's bigger than the great wall of China...

Now I know a lot of elitist here will say I'm wrong because it's so "fun" but man... If it was actually fun to be put through a meat grinder of sagas again and again, well I think the player count speaks for itself on that concept. But I look at the game as a casual person playing an MMO and I feel like DDO has no casual players anymore. Because anyone that's stayed on DDO is people who fought through the lag. We need more casual people to rise up because I get it, you have 100 past lives and perfect gear and every DLC, I get it I know you played since 2006 or 2008 whenever. But dude... I started in 2023. I only have 700 hours almost.

Moral of the story too long didn't read: HTR 100% increase in exp is horrible. Game needs to be more accessible to casual people. On my 8th past life got to 15 this crap is boring, not fun, many reasons why.

I have a ftp alt account. Have not spent a penny. And i have every pack from the code, Borderlands from a code, bought MoTU,shadowfell, Fey, RL, Sharn for 99 points each. Added Saltmarsh and Vecna for points with summer sale discount. I have all content except IoD, MD and Lamordia without spending any dollars. It’s hard to take your paywall whining seriously.

In terms of paywall, I will also disagree.
I have chosen the road of a reasonable budget per year in practice it gets me 1 or 2 expos per year at discounts and I also feel that I do my part for keeping the lights on.
As a friend told me, never put an amount of money that if the game ceases to exist you will be sad.
I also don't have everything, but assuming someone starts now as an f2p and given a year you can end up having: all non expo content, the trove (paid at a discount ~10$) an expansion (feywild) on 75% discount ~10$ and an expansion with DDO points again at a discount let's say 50% (sharn).
That will leave you with missing: IoD, Chills, MD, Vecna. And all these in one year with less than 20$ so access to content is not an issue. After that you can keep getting 1 exp with ddos and 1 with $ per year until you miss only the newest.
In terms of p2w or power catch-up the game is expensive and there is a paywall there.
Now the 100% XP, I haven't reached there yet but soon I will. I have to point out that I did invest DDO points on XP tomes exactly to compensate for this. And I have to say that I hate repeating and that I don't want my sagas to go to XP but to renown.
So yeah, 100xp from 8 life might be too early. I'm trying to get simple heroic completionist and that is 15 lives I think. Perhaps that should be the first XP increase and should increase with every new class. Then the next should be at xx lives exactly as much the racial completionist is. And should increase with every new race.
So at least good planning could get you a bit if a fast past life grinding.

@The Narc2 you seeing this?
That is what dingeon helper and multiboxing is best for, use the dungeon helper make your alt accounts drag them thru levelling as quickly as possible go back and farm out quick and easy over levelled favor while using the dungeon helper and a main toon with elite access and bam you can start to purchase many things with the ddo points earned such as content and big discounts on ftp accounts.

I mean the free shared bank space that was given during the 64 bit transfer debacle was a genuis move for SSG to make it look to the bean counters like there were more accounts during the debacle, but ask yourself how many people built alt ftp accounts to take advantage of that extra shared space, I know i did. They are even shady to their investors.

This is why you need a hobby for the hobby. But you can't take mine, I Want To Believe is spoken for :p

In any case, yes, the insane grind is insane. There does seem to be enough insane people like me that still do it... but starting from scratch... yeah, I get it.

Dumb question, but are you running on Reaper? You keep mentioning sagas, which is a little strange to me. Saga xp rewards are nice, but it’s not really necessary to farm them repeatedly per heroic life just to get to 20. Your repeated mention of sagas makes me wonder if sagas seem like the only viable method to level because regular quests provide little xp, which would only really be true if you weren’t running R1 first-time.

I don’t know what content you own, but you don’t need the last several years of content to still have more than enough for a very efficient TR. As others have said, the free quest coupon + 99-point sales for Ravenloft and Sharn / Underdark (practically free) are more than enough.

Run quests on Elite first after a couple of lives, you'll get +100% Delving bonus to experience to help with the increased Experience required

If you're feeling brave run them on reaper for +150% Experience

After a couple of Reincarnations you can open on Elite, so the increased Experience requirement is balanced out.

It's not about needing the past lives, it's just less fun to progress when you're on the 8th+ past life xp curve - gotta do way more for slower progression, so the character doesn't feel like it develops as nicely per time spent.

First lifers are way more fun, OP - don't be too shy to create a new character to enjoy.

Exp was change like 10 times or more

Exp cap was decreased few times
We got more exp bonuses
You got less exp needed on more life

Maybe check how was exp in quest and how many you needed 15 years ago to lvl up

I don't understand the problem here so what's so boring ? If you exp slow you got plenty of quest to play it's not like I old days you got to redo lots of quest to get lvl , if you want to exp fast to play at end game then why tr?

For me it's you want to eat cookie and have cookie

Things got better. They can still get better.

I maintain that playing first lifers is way more fun progression-wise than playing my main. If some quests are so bad people don't do them - like we recently did Tethyamar chain in heroics on our mains with my duo, and barely got 2 blips toward next level on reaper with 30% pots - maybe that is just not that fun, even when the quests themselves are quite fun to play. Never again - that level of progress / time spent is just not fun.

You've spend 1,200 dollars in 3 years? They offered most of the quests in the game for free and most expacs at deep discounts on multiple points across that time. And redoing sagas repeatedly in heroics, as 8th life?

Missing IoD does mean you're in a bit of a drought of options (especially wrt. LFMs) around level 7-9, but you don't need lamordia on heroic, you don't even really need Myth D on heroic (tho I enjoy it personally).

Did you do most of your past lives before the recent drop in exp requirements for lives 2-7? On life 3 you will be able to open Elite/Reaper by yourself, so you won't be dependent on LFMs.

Average life without making special effort to grind out every last bit of favor, I make about 1.5-2k favor, which is roughly 375-500 DDO points. If you spend some time favor grinding heroics while at 30+ (just run all of them on elite, except maybe any with SUPER annoying mechanics/required teaming, will be pretty fast for like 99% of them) you can easily double that, without needing all the expansions (current favor cap is 8712, FTP favor is 1770 but that basically triples if you use the free chest code they give out every year now), per life. That's gonna go up to probably ~9,000 or so with the new expac. If you're willing to drop 1.2k over three years, it sounds like you're buying expacs at full price? But you don't have them all?

I'm sorry, but the math isn't mathing for me. Even at a super casual pace you should be able to sit down with your wife and play for a couple hours a week at Elite/r1. If you have guild buffs that helps a lot but even without it isn't that hard to do Elites 2 levels below your current level for full exp. If I'm playing a class that's good at low levels I can usually crank out Korthos and Borderlands with a hire in ~3 hours tops, that's several levels and a boatload of favor right there. With a leveling partner it would be even easier. Then when you hit level 5, slap on your Voice of the Master and get +5% to all exp. At that rate you should be able to go about a level a week, maybe more if you have a tome of learning and are experienced with the quests you're playing. 2.5 heroic lives a year doesn't sound like much, but for a casual? Playing more relaxed, not trying to be an r10 legendary push raider? You should be fine on r1 or lower by your 3rd life or so.

Greater tome of learning helps, yes. It makes being 23rd life on my main a lot easier, yes, and means I can get away with not using EXP potions. But if you're only 8th life you should only just be hitting difficulty levelling/needing to repeat stuff. And if you spent 1.2k on the game, did you not get the bundles that include the tomes of learning???

Other stuff that helps:
--Decon lootgen items in the crafting hall for essences, then sell essences on the shard exchange (~30 shards for 10k essences, of which your payout will be about 20 shards). Spend some time at cap just grabbing a bunch of lootgen trash then deconning, you get more essences for higher level lootgen loot. (I usually get 30-50 essences for level 30+ lootgen loot, which translates to 2-300 lootgen items deconned for the essences I need to get 30 shards) Shards you then can use for gold rolls to kick you up past 1st level.
--Run quests on r1 the first time you run them per life.
--Get in a guild! Guild exp buffs are like 5% and many guilds will keep a char around as a dedicated Shadow Crypt or Cursed Crypt opener. Those are high-exp quests that will rocket you through levels 7-9

Personally, I like to take levels 1-5 and just solo grind everything r1 on my main. Just do everything levels 1-2 and the easier 3s, then start grouping. That way I'm less concerned about progression since I know I'm going to be doing them all and netting fat sacks of favor anyway.

That said, I'm also playing 23rd life with a greater tome and guild buffs and a VOM always on. And first level was such a drag as FVS that I said, f it, and took 2 gold rolls for shards that i got selling stuff on the exchange. Mostly because I have no twink gear for FVS and my melee DPS was abysmal until I hit level 2, but still. The game seems tuned to encourage the sale of sovereign EXP pots to people who already have VOMs and tome of learning, and that does get frustrating after a while.

So I can see room for improvement in EXP and progression, but at the same time I do think OP has to be overlooking several easy sources of DDO points and EXP to be having such trouble that he has to re-run sagas on level multiple times to level up.
