Dear all,
Which hires you find useful and why?

Elieri is my favorite. Useful at all levels even as a mini shrine. (Divine vitality)

Byron lvl 1 GIGACHAD who picks up lvl 1 caster class characters in a backpack and takes them through korthos and harbor until they're old enough to walk themselves
Mikayl with unbeatable utility of DD that lets you solo quests that are otherwise too slow to solo
Larafay, who is like a tactical nuke.
... Or just any cleric with a rez and two non-mass healing spells and/or GR.

lvl 20+ its truly slim pickings

Flower, level 7 Dwarf Cleric. She fights with her mace, she phasers with her Searing Light, and she stops everything and tosses cures even as mobs are beating on her. Flower is awesome :giggle:

I mentioned this in another thread; on a F@F appearance, Severlin said the team was looking into hirelings and they saw that some are coded worse for some reason. There are actually hirelings that are built to be less useful than others. (I’m looking at you Wyoh.)

I don’t really use hirelings outside of quests needing levers pulled or something like NPC babysitting, so as far as useful ones, level 16 cleric Natasha Thorston is great for the last room in the heroic Fleshmaker’s Laboratory, she’ll generally stay where you park her and won’t run off to attack air elementals when she’s lighting runes.

Natasha’s also solid for healing the giant seers in Madstone Crater, but I tend to prefer fellow level 16 cleric Isadora Ironclaw for that since she has a fast cure critical wounds mass spell in addition to her heal spell.

Cleric/FvS for most content (yeah, I know there's a few non-divine hires that work but this the easy to remember method). When using a cleric/FvS follow these rules:
No AoE cures/heals. If they list mass cure as one of their active spells, don't buy them. Those with AoE heals tend to heal poorly.
Use ones with AoE damage attacks (you can use non-aoe hires at really low levels). It doesn't matter which spells they have: holy smite, flame strike, firestorm, cometfall, etc. They're all good.
Use the highest level hire you can that meets both of these rules (unless you're fighting mobs that heal off fire in which case you'll want to use the holy smite/cometfall ones). If that means using a hire lower level than you because that's the last one that met these requirements then that's fine. From level 19 onwards, use Caraneth Myar; she tends to outperform any option available afterwards.

Exceptions:
Use Byron at level 1.
Mikayl the Pious if you need ddoor for quest.
Epic rogues if you need them to speed up a quest, like for the underdark door instead of searching for the key
As many gold seals from expansions as you feel like using to fill additional party slots (worse case, they act as a meat shield and/or get 1-shotted).

Nimet (8) and Tanya (12) are both favoured souls that spam holy smite like there's no tomorrow. As a follow up to your cleaves or aoes, they will finish off packs and are awesome dps.

I used to love Anthem (6, bard) because he used to run around and break breakables on his own but they changed that when they changed arti puppies

ML24 Tarlov Snowtrack, with Primal Avatar Natural Shielding + Shared Mantle, he makes a pretty good meat shield and can do some OKish dmg.

byron and the other barb are great early on. Then...bunch of nothing til mikhail at 11 for his DD lol. I like the lv 13+ cleric/fvs as a deathward mass clicky.

Other than that...mostly lever pullers and place-standers. If I'm on a build that's particularly bad at self-healing, I might bring along a healer hireling, but I leave them parked at the entrance and only call them to me to heal, then park them again. They frequently ditch me because I leave them in a quest and it kerplodes lol.

Can't rely on any hire for more than a portable shrine out of combat. So that is what i always take. Tempus, Natasha and Heystack because of their deathward buff.

Rana Leafhart is the best i reckon because she has a bow and that means she doesn't suicide charge every mob she sees.
The raptor and sharn construct have some ability to take a hit or 3 on low reaper. That can be useful.

I like my Sharn robot I just wish he didn't stand right on top of me all the time; he really has a personal space issue. I use several cleric/fvs hires and my biggest gripe with them is they should just NOT have weapons. Their purpose is to raise/heal and that is ALL I want them to do. Of the ones I use Albus behaves himself well, Garret is okay, Natasha is squishy but well-intentioned. Tempus wants to be in the fight too much, always getting aggro with his little light wand. *smh* I also like my cats for elite ~ to lvl25 but above that they don't hold up well. I just find my owlbear to be an annoying, big, dumb fluffy-butt.

Just want to add if you get 3 druid past lives that gives Larafay and her successors +3 to their DC. I believe the level 19 FVS is also a nuker and gets overlooked. I think its way better than that imbecile Wyoh.

Oh, the comment below made me also want to mention it gives trappers a +3 bonus, as well, and gives them all +3 to their saves.

When I run through epics, I tend to start LOD through Demonweb for saga. Sullivan Tiehl becomes very useful if you need a trapper. At level 20 he has no issues trapping/locks at R1 through those chains (especially the spell wards)

I think they already know which ones are working and which ones are broken. Anyhow, I was trying to compile a list of useful hirelings for new players.
Hires are a big part of questing for new players and there is little to non information about them.
I want to thank everyone for helping me compile this list. And hope people will find it useful.
I need to point out that I had missed Larafay, and I recently tried her out. She is fun with her comet fall. If only she had more mana 😅.
