Accessing the Old Forums

The old forums can still be accessed using a combination of your favorite search engine and the Internet Archive. Here's how...

Using your search engine and keywords of choice, find the original links to forum posts. For instance, I wanted to find some of Dark Lord Mary's Jedi builds from a couple years ago. I searched for "ddo mary jedi paladin" which resulted in "https://forums.ddo.com/forums/showt...ore-league?s=35490ea8bdc9a6cbcbf009b184b0b230" being one of the links.

Next, take the link copied and paste it into the Wayback Machine search engine. It will likely tell you the page is available in real-time, which it is currently not. There will be a link under that statement to search all archived instances of the DDO forum for that particular post. If the post is less than 10 years old, it's probably in there somewhere.

That link isn't helpful very helpful if people are trying to follow links to a specific post on the old forums, from search engines, old browser bookmarks, etc.

You have to right-click on the link, select "Copy Link", then paste that into the address bar, notepad, or whatever you prefer. Then edit the first part of the link after https:// to replace either www.ddo.com OR forums.ddo.com with forums-old.ddo.com.

Also of note is that some URLs/links are encoded for a Javascript format, not plain text (i.e. they look something like this https%3A%2F%2Fforums.ddo.com) There are sites that will decode these type of URLs to remove the non-plain-text encoding. Search for "url decoder". Here's the one I use: https://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/dencoder/

May I help you writing a short modrewrite .htaccess file so all your old indexed ddo forums links will be redirected to old forums prefix? (So all forum clicks from google will be working instead of seeing maintenance page)
Due how different links are between old and new forums it would be easy to distinguish in a rewrite conditon

You can also just modify the Javascript links directly in the address bar. Delete 'www' and add the 'forums-old'.
