From discord, from Cordovan, they don't know what the root causes of the issues are they've tried some things and are going to try more things soon
In other words we will keep tossing crap at the wall till something sticks. Gald they don't work on cars. A $100 repair will get you a new engine lol

Looking at Severlin's Discord comments, it's like he only remembers it's there every once in a while, comments on whatever he sees as some of the most recent posts, then goes back to forgetting about it for another couple weeks.

Tolero can be pretty active at times, but it's usually in bursts. She'll post quite a bit during a timeframe then stop altogether for a while before commenting again.

The forums, as others have pointed out, Severlin doesn't seem to have an account, and Tolero can be active once in a while but nowhere near as much as she is on the Discord during one of her active stretches. (Severlin does have a LOTRO forums account but has never posted there.)

Not to turn this into an us versus them post, but Orion from LOTRO hosts his own livestreams, and will post during updates on their forums. He will take accountability for what his team has done and the decisions he's made. (Try to get anyone at DDO to do that.) While it's not the most active communication I've seen between dev team leadership and their game's community, it's more impactful at times than what we get at DDO.

(It should also be noted Orion is the systems lead at LOTRO. He has hands-on experience with the actual development process of the game, unlike DDO's producer who came from the marketing/store side of things, which we all know to be the strongest part of the DDO experience.)

Surely @Tolero and @Severlin have to be accountable to SOMEONE.

A simple acknowledgement, communication instead we are made to feel like WE ARE THE PROBLEM because we expect to play a product WE PAY FOR which in turns pays the salaries.
Imagine going into a steak house and getting 1/2 the steak you ordered and the manager comes to your table threating to ban you for complaining meanwhile the GM just sits there and doesn't acknowledge you or the manager.

It would be nice to hear from devs about game crippling lag. When too many people on at peak times maybe they should open their purse string and open another 64-bit server.
They never built new 64bit servers they piggybacked DDO onto the LOTRO servers. This mess is here to stay unless they make dedicated servers for each game. I don't see that happening though. I honestly think we are looking at the end of DDO as an MMO. Hopefully it can be ported to some kind of CO-OP offline game but who knows.

Idk at this point DDO is a re-write. It will cost more to fix the game then it makes. so I wouldn't count on them doing anything other than continuing to drive it into the ground.

you want to send a message? quit buying stuff in the store

I am not under the impression that LOTRO is having the same performance issues that DDO is experiencing so I would be very dubious of both games being run on the same servers. Some of the servers are shared between the games, but I believe those are just for login and maybe store aspects.

today has been really bad. had to just disconnect from the game to even leave a dungeon. Just lost 15 mins of time trying to run cruc, only to be sitting in one spot for 10 mins of that time. Its not worth my time or effort to keep trying. Myabe I'll just play after restarts for a day or 2. It's just too bad that it's still in this condition after what, a month? Love this game, but hate playing it when i can't actually play it. lol

I hate those kinds of answers. If I took my car to a mechanic because it wasn't working properly, and he had it for a month, and when I called him he told me that he had "tried some things, and was going to try some more things soon" then most likely I would just be demanding my car back as he is a terrible mechanic who has no clue how to fix a car. Then I would take it to a different mechanic that might know how to fix the problem. I understand the game isn't a car, and I also am not really in the coding world so I don't know exactly what it takes to figure out system errors in this regard, however I would think that people who have dealt with this exact code for the amount of time these people have, would have more of an idea what could be causing the problem and be able to have a more definitive answer. If they cannot figure it out, then it might be time to get some new "mechanics" to work on the problem.

People get so upset over the price of a fast food lunch.

And the people who play for free? Those I don't understand at all.

And the people who don't play at all but come here simply to badmouth the game and company in general.

Stunning.

You know what? I'll say it now because if DDO/SSG folds I won't be able to say it later: Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

(Oh, and bringing in brand new engineers to work on 20 year old software? That's a nightmare waiting to happen)

Counterpoint:

People who aren't upset over paying money, no matter the amount, for a product that they cannot use because it works so poorly or not at all? o_O

And the people who get something for free that doesn't work properly yet act like it's the greatest thing ever? Those I don't understand at all.

And the people who don't play at all yet come here simply to cheer for the company in general even though their product is broken.

Stunning.

You know what? I'll say it now because if DDO/SSG folds I won't be able to say it later: If SSG can't fix the servers and make them playable without lagging constantly, it deserves to fold. They've spent years running the product into the ground and piling up technical debt without paying it off as they go.

(Oh, and bringing in brand new engineers to work on 20 year old software? If that's what it takes, they should do it. We're already living in a DDO nightmare.)

Your counterpoints are mostly nonsensical.

Two are valid, If they don't get this fixed, they do deserve to fold. Maybe new engineers are necessary, but I maintain it will be a disaster of epic proportions, and yes, I think it would be worse than what we have right now, at least in the short term.

There are methodologies to solve problems with simple tools to get to the root cause: Is/ Is not, timeline with changes, process flow, Ishikawa, 5-Whys, prioritized actions, etc...

I mean... I thought your original thoughts were wildly unfocused and yelling at anyone who was yelling without knowing why... but that's not as important.
The important thing is that you're assuming you know what the lag is. There are plenty of ways the lag could be caused by people who are experts at things with the servers, and virtual servers, and TCP connections that actually could be at fault here, that this team wouldn't actually know much about.
And the nice thing about experts is that they can interface with people who DO know DDO's particular systems... like its engineers.

But yes... they need to get it fixed. But your focus on the fact that it could be in the legacy code that no one knows ignores the point that DDOs own devs don't work on the legacy code unless they absolutely have to because they don't know it. So I'm uncertain what one more level of abstraction is with that?

They certainly were.

That was the primary point of my post, which you seem to have missed. I used the exact same logic you used.

Since my points were mirror images of yours, connect the dots.
But did you use the "point by point parody" font?
