Anyone else have their CC compromised after making purchase?

I been using my CC for a years, and when i finally decide to get VIP for 3 months... bam I get an email from the CC company ..

Your $3,054.70 purchase at STUBHUB INC on July 14 was declined

I never used STUBHUB.. not even sure what it is.. But its weird that out of no where.. I make a purchase with standing stones.. and then I get this... luckily it was caught in time and new card will be sent to me.

Stubhub is a ticket reseller.

This is disturbing. Coming on top of all the account hacks and money lost i worry stuff like this will be the death of this game.

I used to spend money from time to time in the ddo store, but if my cc is going to be compromised I guess ill just play for free only. Eventually enough other people will cone to that same conclusion and the game goes dark.

I wish SSG would take real action on these issues, even if they dont want to do so publicly.

Well to be fair, a lot of retailers get hit and the information gets compromised. The payment system at every retailer you use can and likely has been compromised at some point. Whatever system 7-11 uses gets compromised every other year. I had 5 debit cards over 8 years that had to be cancelled and reissued due to big retail systems getting hit.

The turn-around time for someone stealing CC info and actually using it is usually weeks/months. If the fraud occurred the same day/week as your VIP purchase it seems more likely it was compromised someplace else.

Vendors get compromised frequently. I preemptively report my cards missing every so often just to get new numbers assigned to safeguard against it. TBH I have no idea why the CC companies put such long expirations on cards. You'd think they would prefer voiding potentially compromised card numbers every 2-3 years instead of 5-6 to protect themselves better.

I want to buy something.
I put in payment info.
I buy the thing.
I delete payment info.
At the store and the market place.
Even for my sub.
Is PIA?
Yes.
But no $3,054.70 bill.

Somebody (I'm not sure who) on the internet got compromised and had their customer details exported recently, I know this because I got an alert that a lot of throwaway accounts that use the same username/password I've made over the years are being flagged as having their password known.

I'm pretty sure that if you've done everything right and someone tried to make a purchase using your card details it's most likely coincidental timing and somewhere else that had your card details has had a breach. It's not that I have insane confidence in SSG's payment processor or anything, just if it was SSG's payment processor we'd probably know

If you've ever saved your credit card info because your web browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, etc.) has asked if you wanted to so you don't have to type it in again later, then that is likely the problem. Either your web browser hasn't been updated recently, and you visited a compromised website that accessed and forwarded your CC data to a hacker, OR someone in your household (roommate, child, partner, friend who came over for a visit, etc.) accessed your computer, went to StubHub, and tried to get some expensive concert or show tickets on your dime.

Never, ever, ever save your credit card data in whatever web browser(s) you use. EVER!!

And if you being to unreliable internet sites that asked you to install some software or another browser other than the standard ones, be extra careful NOT to install any additional software (browser) or plugins.

Delete those on seeing them, do not open.

Even better, do not visit those sites.

sounds more like a phishing email than a compromised card
I agree. Did you check your account to see if there really was an attempt to use it. Why would they send an email to notify you the purchase was declined, you would already know a purchase was declined. I get these all the time, sometimes I respond just to screw around with them depending on my mood.

That email was likely not from your CC company. I get emails almost daily telling me that my Cloud account is going to be cancelled unless I update my payment info...Funny because I do not have a Cloud account. You are likely being scammed. I once got a phone call from my phone number (that's what the caller ID said).

Considering how many accounts have been hacked the last few months...
Allegedly hacked. If it were true, why would you go onto the forums to complain about it rather than go to the police? The forums can't do anything to fix it if it actually happened, the police can.

Your card company can fix it for you, going to the police just documents it so you have a better argument with the bank. The police are almost no help at all in situations like this, and you almost have to force them to take a report. It still should be step number one.

True, the police can't do much in this sort of situation but they can pass it along to the FBI who actually do work with CC fraud. Nobody on the forums is capable of doing anything for you.

Bottom line, if you get an email saying 'such and such', it is likely a scam. Report it and take a second look at your security (that's assuming you took a first look at it).
