Anyone Ever Push a Conjuration Sorc with Acid as the Main Flavor

I have been thinking about rolling a Sorc and trying something a little different. I want to lean into conjuration and push acid spells as the main theme. I know it is not the common approach, so I am wondering how broken this idea really is. Curious what the community thinks and how wild this path might get.

It's not all that wild. I tried acid sorc using a Dragonborn. It worked out fine until I discovered acid thrower alchemist.

The big drawback of acid sorc is that there's no 3rd ED to support it like there is for the other elements, and you only have 2 good spells, compared to 3 for air and 4 for ice. Heroic leveling is also a bit annoying since there's no good nuke spell between acid blast and BDB.

Other than that, it's perfectly playable, and it's basically not that much worse than other sorcs in endgame, but that's not saying much considering the state of casters currently...

Quite a long time ago.
Nothing but useless "cloud" type of spells that do no damage but obscure player's vision and thus were hated by anyone.

It remains to use only Acid Blast+Acid Well (and maybe occasionally Black Dragon Bolt) and nothing else.

Sorry, whats ED and BDB?
ED is short for epic destiny, BDB is black dragon bolt, the lvl 8 acid spell.

Acid spells are Conjuration School. You will have Web and Stinking Cloud for crowd control as they are both Conjuration School
Both web and stinking cloud have the same problems of being small AoE and not making mobs helpless. Other CC options like greater color spray (illusion), burst of glacial wrath (evocation) or mass hold monster (enchantment) are far more useful.

It will be ok until like 14 where you will struggle with damage until 18, where it will pick back up until cap, where it will drop off, but theoretically not terribly.

Acid blast (max/emp) plus black dragon breath from dragonborn racial will carry you to 12 when you get the 2nd acid blast as an sla. It should be fine with those 3 until 14/15 when damage starts dropping off due to low mcl 10 and really increased monster hp. When you get acid well (max/emp) at 18 it'll be fine again.

Then epics you have acid well and breath epic strike and black dragon bolt for single targets which will be fine to 24, then you get master of earth(?) to add 10 mcl to acid blast (dunno if the boost to melfs acid arrow is significant for single target since the changes to its base damage). This will continue to be fine until 26 when you get to double breath epic strike damage. There's also shard storm primal spell from primal, though I've never used it. It looks like it's more of a single target spell to open with?

It'll looks like it'll honestly be perfectly fine up to legendary r4 (personally I dont see the point beyond r1 anyway unless you need rxp). Your rotation is only 4 spells, well, blast, blast, breath (theoretically because the first 3 are range so you can cast them while running up to them, whence you can then breath) but blast has a lower cooldown being a level 3 spell, so you can probably weave it in after breath and before well again. Its just not as much damage because you have to rely on feat-boosted level 3 spells. Double ruin and black dragon bolt for single targets should be perfectly serviceable.

Try it and let us know how it goes. I've always wanted to do it because I really like acid blast gfx as a spell!

The acid spell selection is extremely limited compared to fire. When you can bypass immunity by casting Meteor Swarm, there's a reason acid isn't played much.

Cloudkill is pretty good IMO

Cloud spells suck unless it's a raid where you can keep the boss mostly stationary. And then it's not for damage but for Concealment, which can be obtained through a scroll. DDO is way too frenetic of a game to expect quest mobs to stay in one spot, especially when you're grouping.

Someone above mentioned Acid Blast. It's terrible because the caster level is capped. There's no DBF version for acid. You'll eternally be behind a fire caster who is rotating through Meteor Swarm and DBF. Acid Well is decent damage, but suffers from the stationary aspect.

No one plays Acid Sorc for long in legendary content for the same reason no one plays Blightcaster. The acid spells just aren't up to par with other elemental options.
