Anyone remember those pal/ftr/rog builds?

They had a name, many years ago they swept the servers and everywhere you looked you saw one. They could do traps, tank, dps, and even off heal - or go through traps with evasion. Are these still a thing or did they get patch nerfed??

Is there a new version of this in 5.0?

Any build can get evasion through Shadowdancer ED. Any build can tank a Doom Reaper long enough with Uncanny Dodge and a Hood of Unrest. EDs allow quite a bit of off-healing depending on your choices. Almost everyone can get high DPS. Basically, instead of being locked into one build, you have the option to create dozens of types of builds that can do everything you want here.

The Batman build relied on a bug back then, that allowed evasion with heavy armor. The popularity dwindled drastically when it was corrected.

IIRC the Batman was fighter 12 / paladin 2 / rogue 2, back in the days when the level cap was still 16. The two nerfs which killed it were (A) Evasion stopped working with heavy armor and (B) Divine Grace's saves bonus was capped to "2 + (3 * paladin level)" which killed paladin 2 splashes in general.

Nowadays you have three classes which grant trap skills instead of just one - Artificer, Dark Hunter, rogue - and multiple sources for Evasion besides a rogue (or monk) 2 splash. So you've got a lot more options if you want "self-sufficient DPS with Evasion + trap skills."

The original Batman build was created when the level cap was 12 - Fighter 7, Paladin 3, rogue 2 and was built based upon a single random item drop, a ring, that was very expensive on the auction house. I forget what was on the ring exactly, but remember guilds pooling money to buy one on the auction house.
The build evolved when the level cap was 14 and died out at 16 when they "fixed evasion". At 14 the ring wasn't a mandatory requirement and build became more common.
The Batman build was replaced by the Valkyrie build when the level cap went to 16 which was a TWF Pally 12, Rouge 2 (6), monk 2 which existed all the way to Shadowfell Conspiracy, at which point it was 12 Rogue, 6 Paladin, 2 Monk was the heroic levels. They actually nerfed TWF twice and eliminated Wounding of Puncturing because it was so effective.
A version of the build made an appearance with the release of Harper (strategic combat line) with Update 23.

Variations of the Batman and Valkyrie builds show up on the Hardcore Server as somewhat self sufficient characters.
