Approach to doing HC?

Hello,
I'm not a new player, but Cormyr is the first time I've done anything with HC. Is there a best way to approach this? Do Normal, Hard, and then Elite? Avoid certain quests? Really any basics are appreciated.

There's no favor involved in the rewards, so do whatever quests you feel like and skip the quests you don't like or know are difficult. The cosmetics are almost identical, so unless you really want the skull version, you can play the easy mode where death holds no risk. If you go skull version, then make sure you build a character well. You can also do stuff like roll an iconic and have that character farm gear for your main.

If doing the Hardcore version of the event, skip any quest with "Delirium" in the title, because those are insanely dangerous.

Since this is not the regular hardcore server and the usual rules about getting reaper XP and favor don't apply, you can be very selective about what you do and don't do.

Seeing that the Mist Stalkers spawn in the wilderness zones I feel like the best approach if you don't care at all for the cloak is to just ignore quests.
There seems to be a timer on the spawns that only resets when you complete a quest, unfortunately. You could fight them in the wilderness and then do a quest to reset the timer if you want to avoid the risk of them spawning during a tough fight, but that's going to be slower than going through quests normally and will only ever get you the XP for 'normal' difficulty.

Yes, they recently adjusted the mechanic. I was able to fill one lantern and get a little ways into a second by the time they did it. It's annoying because I do like the wilderness zones but they want people running the quests for testing purposes so I do understand the adjustment even if I hate it.

I always pad the missions by being slightly above the level as well so a 3rd. level mission I will do @ 5th. With the way lag has been of late.. don't mess around if it feels remotely spiky. I haven't been playing enough to comment on how good it has been, but I'm hoping to later today and see if the recent changes helped.

if your level 10 you do level 8 quests on elite. which is @ your current level.
try not to do anything above your current level.

well:
1. assume your character will die in every quest
2. ensure you cleardown your character to minimal spec before every quest. so if it dies you only lose what's on the character
3. VIP allows you to create 11 characters. So make use of all 11, replacing each dead character with a new one

the early stages of HC are all about buildingup your digital assets by any means necessary. By the time you have something resembling playable sets you should be able to run through quests @lower levels confident the characters won't get killed. After that you can focus on buildingup favor, quest arcs etc etc

Just run your lantern thru all quests on elite or higher and they will fill up. Earn favor for ddo points to bring back to your main server.

This isn't real hardcore. Nothing is lost. You can transfer everything to a new character with a fresh lantern. Or just keep playing the same character without a lantern.
