Greetings all,

**Important note! it seems that the Spell Specialty feat (level 31) is currently bugged in game in that it does not check for the anti-requisites of the heroic spell focus feats as intended and will grant +3 DC's on top of the 2 gained from heroic feats. Bug report (Request #325013) has been submitted**
I have always wanted a pure caster Artificer to be good. Specifically, I wanted Tactical Detonation to be effective CC and damage the way it is meant to be but I never was able to do it. . . until now. I have been playing a lot of casters lately and have learned a lot about how to get good DCs and I applied that knowledge to an old character through a lesser reincarnation. I did not level this character with this build but doing so should be no problem, I have leveled many artificers before and this one should be better than those more random builds.
This build is specifically designed to require NO past lives, NO reaper point (I have 6 at present), No raid gear and should be easily buildable by anyone with access to the content.

**New Feat list is as follows:
Feats
1: Mental Toughness

3: Spell Focus Evocation
4: (bonus) Maximize

6: Greater Spell Focus Evocation

8: (bonus) Empower

9: Improved Mental Toughness / Wiz past life

12: Spell Focus Illusion
(bonus): Quicken

15: Greater Spell Focus Illusion

16: (bonus) Heighten

18: Insightful Reflexes

20: (bonus) Adamantine Body

21: Epic Spell Focus Illusion

22: (destiny) Epic Spell Power: Electric

24: Master of Artifice

25: (destiny) Epic Spell Power: Force

27: Burst of Glacial Wrath

28: (destiny): Deific Warding

30: Embolden Spell
(legendary): Scion of the Plane of Air

31: (destiny) Spell Specialty: Evocation

So just spell caster build no weapon action. Got ya. I prefer my dhr and rune arm. Def come in handy when you have no spell points and have endless fusilade with elemental weapon and sneak dice and crits.

No, specialty only cares about what epic spell focus you took, I took epic illusion focus
That seems odd, since that allows you to just double down and net +2 DC from the spell specialty feat compared to taking the epic spell focus.

Nothing odd because you need "waste" 3 feat slot for second spell focus line.

Thanks for sharing you build. I start one very similar not long ago. I also wanted a caster variant. The standard repeater build was getting old.
I was able to get a couple ideas though, mainly in the epic feat selections.

As @Cybermaker mentioned a text build sheet would help a lot.
Grab Maetrim's DDOBuilder https://github.com/Maetrim/DDOBuilder it creates a nice forum friendly layout.

If it is working like this, it is a bug. Spell speciality feat specifically mentions that you cannot have the base spell focus (and therefore none of the others).

Also, you cannot have the basic Spell Focus feat for the spell school.
It's correct and it's what TS forget seems. 8)
Is there a bug that allows you to take the Spell Specialty feat while having the basic spell focus?
Last time i check some time here was no such bug. Mebbe present now, need additional checking.
And are you sure it gives you +3 DC and not +1 (if not stack with spell focus and g spell focus)?
Spell Specialty give +3DC, but it's same +3DC as from full SF line, so here no net gain.

I think it's just some language barriers here. 8)

Last question was for the OP, sorry, I didn't make it clear. First question was for all.

OP: If you actually have the feat with that build (which would be a bug), are you sure it gives you an extra +3 DC, or just the +1 epic spell focus that you don't have? (because it depends on what the feat code is, it can stack or not).

But in any case, it would be a bug, so don't expect it to work forever.

Clearly the intention is for it not to stack because it is intended to mimic the spell focus line, but depending on what the code is, it can actually stack. Imagine that the code only adds +3 DC after checking that the spell focus feat does not exist: then, if that check fails, it would add the +3 DC even if it is not what the devs intended.

The feat in game lists the prerequisite feat as “epic spell focus (all schools other than this one)” and has no antirequisite at all. I have assumed it gives +3 because feats always seem to stack and it doesn’t indicate in any way that it doesn’t I will try and find a way to test this. Why do we think this is a bug? Could be the wiki is wrong

As for DDO builder, it doesn’t have the illithid invasion gear yet and the feats work differently there than in game so I haven’t completed a build with it yet

It's in the U55 release notes:

Spell Specialty Feats: These require the Epic Spell Focus feat from a school other than the one you're picking here, essentially allowing you to improve your potency with a secondary school. These are also antirequisites of the base spell focus feats - so you can't double up on a school you already have a spell focus for.

Thanks for that, I was having trouble finding which update it was in. Ok i guess I report this

I spent the shards to have Fred remove Spell Specialty: Evocation and my DC dropped 3 points so, yes the feat as it currently works is stacking +3 on top of the +2 you get for focus and greater focus. it only checks for Epic Spell Focus and does not care about heroic spell focuses
