Aspect Ratio Fix (U68)

Issue: The graphics are stretched upon login and needs to be corrected every time.

It's possible that simply changing your Windowed Resolution to match your Full Screen Resolution will fix the repeated stretching issue, so all of the steps below may or may not be necessary.

-

These are the steps I went through to make it work:

Opened DDO (stayed on character select screen)
Set Windowed Resolution to 3440x1440 (use whatever you use)
Set Screen Mode to Windowed
Logged into a character
Quit game

Opened DDO
Logged into a character
Set Screen Mode to Full Screen
Changed Windowed Mode to 3440x1440 (it had changed to "Custom")
Quit game

Now when I login, the aspect ratio is automatically set correctly to 21:9 (43:18).

This is more of an issue with ultrawide monitors that DDO only supports with "Auto" aspect ratio. If your screen is 16:9, it should be fine to use the "16:9" setting built into the game and be done.

With Update 68, the game appears to launch as a window before it switches to full screen. It's likely taking settings to match this window instead of the full screen resolution when it loads. Setting the resolution of the window tells the game to use that aspect ratio (if you have "Auto" set as your aspect ratio).

This may only be an issue if you're using full screen. Playing the game in windowed mode or borderless windowed (full screen windowed) doesn't seem to have an issue. But if you have reason to play full screen mode (such as interference with other apps when G-Sync is set to use windowed mode), then hopefully this works for you.

I only went through the extra steps because I wanted to be completely sure that the game would remember what resolution I used for windowed mode. It would be nice to hear if only having to change the "Windowed Resolution" setting works without actually going into windowed mode and relogging.

I would also like to ask SSG if it's possible to add 21:9 and 43:18 aspect ratios as settings to the game. If it's simple enough for developers to implement (I don't know if it is), this could save players an extra step.

Yep. I've been running into the same thing since the last patch. It's a bit tedious having to "reset" the aspect ratio every time I log in.

Had similar issues just at 1080p resolutions ... selecting full screen windowed instead of full screen seems to have stabilised things

I'm gonna put a work-order in on this since this is still a thing. Not sure what changes were implemented in U68 that affected this, but it could be one of those "undocumented" fixes? Kind tedious having to change aspect ratio every time I have to login.

I play in 3840x1600 and don't have aspect ratio issues. However, I recall fiddling with the compatibility mode waaaay back to fix them. Just checked and I have dndclient.exe set for Override high DPI scaling. Scaling performed by "Application".

I run in full-screen windowed mode and that monitor also has 120% UI scaling set (by the OS), though I doubt the UI scaling matters for the aspect ratio issue.

Thanks for the replay Bjond, I plopped in a ticket regardless, but I will work with my settings some more. Ideally... I shouldn't have to, but I"m a semi-realist (it should just work right?!?)

So I think I have a reasonable fix on my end, and it is what Sammy posted.
I ended up with Screen Mode set to: Full Screen (Windowed) which seemed to retain the correct aspect ratio without a reset.
I"m okay with it as a fix, but it would be nice to understand why U68 altered this in the first place.
