Astral Shards not to transfer to 64bit worlds!

What's that saying, "Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence"?
The working phrase used by SSG is "fiscally irresponsible". It's not malice or incompetence.

Those two words are an excessively syllablified version of two common 4-letter words: lazy & greed.

Basically, they think they'll make more money by not transferring astral shards. First, they save on development effort and then they (hope) to make more from folks rebuying on the new server.

However, let's look ahead: what happens when they want to shut off the 32 bit servers?
Yeah, of course. Because you are a 6th generation fortune teller 🔮...
Nobody knows when they are going to shut down the 32 bit servers if ever. Nobody.
They might have plenty of time to develop a technology to do something with AS after they opened 64 bit servers before the 32 bit servers went off. So there is no need to panic and get hysterical in advance.

As stated on Friday, no decision has been made and any speculation on my part is just that. It is true that currently, Astral Shards do not transfer with character transfers, and we typically require people to spend that total down prior to transfer to date. Whether we do that with 64-bit server transfers is not known.

You've announced several things that were being looked at for the transfer and it's hard to imagine you had no discussions on this issue. It would have to go beyond speculation at this point for you to mention it the way you did - but perhaps the overwhelming response from customers will actually get considered by SSG this time.

The shard market is going to tank now because no one will want to get shards when shortly they will have no value.

So now what are we supposed to do?

Prices may go up for a bit as people choose to unload their AS by buying up anything of value. But once that happens you are probably right. You would have to be crazy to purchase AS at the moment.

Agreed. SSG staff need to understand: everything that comes out of your mouth is an official communication. Don't like being raked over the coals? Stop doing live streams and start communicating like grown ups.

Agreed. I think more players feel the same. The people who keep saying they don't care are the ones not participating in the shard economy.
I don't participate in the shard economy and I care. Of all the thing to transfer shards are the easiest to develop a solution. It should be a 'we are working on it', not a 'we don't know yet'.

Agreed.

And this is why the livestreams are such a stupid concept. It lends itself quite nicely to uneducated employees spouting half-understood theories which then sparks massive debate in the community. That they do these livestreams on a friday and then ignore us all weekend just makes it even worse.

SSG, everything you say to us is an official communication.

What if they were to provide an NPC who could turn your astral shards into astral diamonds and move them into your character inventory? Then the astral diamonds would transfer to the new server like every other item in your inventory and once on the server players could just convert the astral diamonds back into astral shards. That doesn't seem like it would be that hard for the devs to implement.

There's a million different ways it could be done. If we know anything its the SSG doesn't want or think they need our suggestions.

We know that they will, some day. It will become fiscally irresponsible to keep them on eventually.
we know they will turn them off and we know from the end of Asheron's Call what it will look like: there will be maybe 30 days advance warning. There will be zero fanfair. And the exact instant the servers are turned off the drives will be wiped and the physical equipment carted off to ewaste. No data will be archived. Anyone who stayed on the 32 bit servers will have their characters irrecoverably deleted forever.

That's fine, it will have been a fun ride - but all things have their time.
