I think it would be a fairly nice and easy update if they were to add to the options when a bard sings their songs. Not more buffs, just the audio that happens when a bard does buff. It should be fairly easy (and either cheap or free) to get additional sounds that could happen, even if they stuck to just the violin. or if they decided to go above and beyond, to add in different animations depending on the race and so that race uses a different instrument. I know I have heard a few people wish that a h-orc bard played the war drum.

I suggested years ago that bards should have a wider variety of instruments, inspired by games like EverQuest and LotRO, where such variety exists.

For DDO, I envision bards having a dedicated inventory slot for instruments. I don't like the idea of using an item slot just to play a different instrument.

This new instrument slot could be purely cosmetic, but I also believe that the type of instrument you use could impact your bard songs.

I also proposed years ago that we should have a dedicated UI for cosmetics, similar to the UI for companions and mounts. I think having such a UI is the best solution when it comes to managing cosmetics. Additionally, any cosmetics you purchase or acquire through other means should be account-wide. I can imagine that the kind of instrument you want to play with your bard could be decided in such a cosmetic UI, and there could be different ways to acquire various musical instruments, as well as special sounds and animations for your bard.
