Be careful with guild leadership changes before transfer

Hi,

This is probably an unusual case, but thought I would put it out there anyway.

I had a small guild on a server I didn't usually play on (I think it was Orien). I wanted to transfer the guild, but *not* the current leader of the guild. So, I appointed a successor and abdicated leadership. Leadership transferred to the successor as it should. Then I went to the new leader and packed the guild. Then I packed the other characters in the guild. When everyone was packed, I transferred no problem.

When I got to the new server, I unpacked the leader first. When I went to unpack other members in the guild, I got the error about the guild leader having not unpacked yet. I checked the /transfer list to make sure they were part of the guild, and they were. Ended up using /transfer delete guild and re-inviting them.

What I think happened is, because I transferred leadership and packed right after transferring, the other characters in the guild didn't get the update about the leadership change, So when I unpacked them, they were looking for a guild with the *old* leader, rather than the new leader.

Again, this was a small guild on a server I hadn't played on for a while, so it wasn't a big deal for me. Just something to keep in mind, especially if you're going to usurp leadership from an inactive leader and transfer...

I can do things others can't...
I did the same thing but was fine. Did you relog and restart client (like doing a reincarnation) before you performed the /transfer pack? If not, the data in change of Leadership might not have been saved properly first and hence the experience you ran into.

Hi,

No, I did not. That's probably why it happened. Thus my warning to others who might do something similar. After you make a leader change, give it a few minutes - maybe log out and get some food - before you start packing.

I'm also in the same boat here. Sadly, This is on my primary server, and I had transferred leadership of the guild so that I wasn't trying to move the guild WITH a multi-life TR with hoards of BtC loot... The guild was passed back to the original guild leader on the new server, but none of my other characters recognize the guild, and thus fail to fully unpack.

Hopefully someone at SSG will be able to offer a solution (as I'm not too crazy about throwing away around 3.5 mil renown to /transfer delete guild and re-invite.)

As long as no one used the transfer delete command it seems likely that we could figure this one out. It is good guidance, we'll have to sort through the case of someone who changes leadership and packs before logging out and back in. For now, don't do it, log out and back in just like you would for a true reincarnation, after you change leadership and before that character packs.

When I transferred the guild to the new server, it received a -1 in its name, as there was already a guild with that name.
I executed the name change command before the members transferred their characters to the new server...
Now everyone is having trouble joining the guild.

Damn.
It.

I did this earlier today. From Orien to Shadowdale. Transferred leadership to a new member on a different account, packed that character and the guild, then transferred the guild and unpacked. One other character on that account was able to get into the guild on Shadowdale, where I unpacked. Every other character, on any other account, says "transfer failed with error: Transferred guild not found. The guild leader hasn't unpacked the guild on this world". 😠

Fix coming.. I think?

From Discord, 21 July.

Tolero —
For folks in guilds who experienced issues if their guild leader changed during this: we've identified the problem, so in order to keep folks from losing their renown we're adding a fix into this week's patch that should resolve this, but don't delete your guild pack data nor TR if you're trying to preserve your renown for that guild until the fix goes live. Once it's live you should be able to just unpack and it'll find the guild like it should.

Cordovan: Is there anything you can do If a leader is purposefully only logging to maintain leadership, then immediately logging off and just not answering any guild members? No decisions on transfers? About 5 of us (plus a few others) have been contributing to this guild for ten years and it’s really heartbreaking to have to lose all we worked for because the leader inexplicably logs on for two minutes just to maintain leadership so no one else can take over. Please help! Orien. Lev 187. Fidelic Brotherhood. Any way to remove leader and let one of us officers take over?
