Beware the Trap of Cormyr

As some it is probably pretty obvious, but in case it is not. Any character made on Cormyr cannot be transferred. That means that if you develop that character and you do not wish to continue paying for VIP. You lose access to that character even if it's a free to play character. Hopefully this will change overtime. It's a way for DDO to trap you into a VIP subscription if you want to continue to play your character. DDO please allow the transfer of characters out of Cormyr.

Yeah... not so much a trap. It is VIP Only. Shouldn't take a rocket-surgeon to figure out that if you don't maintain your VIP that this goes away. VIP carrot/stick all in one shot!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I need to be a VIP in order to access Cormyr?

Yes, a subscription is required for access.

In one of the Fridays at Four it was suggested that in the future they may have transfers off Cormyr. It was stated also that they had no plans for Transfers to Cormyr.

Speculation here but If eventually they are going to make all of the servers x64 then you can expect to be able to move your character to one of them. They would not want to pay to run x32 bit and x64 bit servers. It does not make financial sense. Now would they do it for free or charge a fee to move your account that's a good question.

The tentative plan was to get Cormyr stable, solve the transfer bugs (Guilds/Mounts/Pets/Astral Shards/ Others and if the cost makes sense add more 64-bit servers with free transfers from the existing 32-bit servers to the new 64-bit servers. The timeline is up in the air since they have to work thru so much with bugs/lag/equipment/cost. (IMO Any one of which could derail the process.)

This is the impression I'm getting based on chat so far:

Players: Yay, a new server... !!!
The Team: Yup, c'mon over! Some of the bugs are fixed!
Players: This is open to everyone, right?
The Team: Well, you have to be VIP, and most of the people you know won't bother.
Players: It's a complete do-over, so years of hamster-wheeling won't matter?
The Team: Nope, but there's XP potions available in the store, and the Otto's are...
Players: <Logs off>

I am playing on Cormyr and making a "Summer Home" there. Guild toons etc. I am trying NOT to make any bank toons. There does seem to be quite the crowd playing and having fun/frustrations.

From DDO EU servers
Cormyr is just first step. As I know, as I assume, as I predict:

- 64-bit architecture is a must for mega-servers
- Cormyr is just a playground for 64-bit, VIP paywall is just to keep it low populated and excuses extra spending, also playground for HC equivalent event
- Once Cormyr is hardware/software matured - new 64-bit mega-servers will appear accessible for everyone
- I guess there will be one EU server, one US, maybe one Aussie + Asia
- there will be free transfers from 32-bit to 64-bit servers, and then paid ones from any 64-bit to other 64-bit ones (this will open Cormyr's transfers OR Cormyr becomes US server)
- 32-bit servers will be closed down

There are huge milestones to be achieved but I believe this is a plan from what I can sense watching SSG interviews/streams and extrapolating from LOTRO history :)

Doesn't seem too unreasonable gravisrs. I do wonder if they will be able to do a proper mega server though, and if not, I suspect that will lead to multiple servers still over just single mega-servers. Time will tell the tale as they say.

I would love to see a dedicated EU server, but I don't know if the population is there to support it. LOTRO has EU servers but AFAIK, the EU playerbase is much bigger for LOTRO than DDO.

They said there will be other 64 bit servers and there might be transfers off of cormry but no transfers to,it

I like the goals they set. I just dont think SSG can reach them.
Stable 64 maybe
Transfer guilds/shards etc very much doubt it.
