Bring Back the Official DDO Hardcore Server — Community Petition

Contrary to what you use them for others buy +8 tomes, skill tomes and xp tomes so they don't consider them throw aways. It is those type of people that drive the economics of having a hardcore server. Maybe if SSG sets up a donation page for starting a hardcore server, then maybe.
They made plenty of money off HC players like me.
I bought a lot of shards and tomes and VIP for each HC and every top tier expansion for the tomes to all chars. Havent bought an expansion since they killed HC. In short they are not making any money off me until they get real HC running again.
Does not change that I would never continue playing HC chars on the main server.
I did suggest they made a store item that would make you able to create a past life tome by doing a reincarnation on chars you do not want anymore. But they, they dont want my money, so meh...

I would love to have the old Hardcore back. The problem is that the last few Hardcore seasons lacked any real originality. Even the rewards were largely the same, so a considerable chunk of the player base just didn't seem to care. I think the new softcore style is fine for now, at least until the devs can come up with something that makes Hardcore worth participating in for the majority of players again.

The biggest issue I see with the current softcore style is that it is too easy to bypass the Hardcore challenge. Because the player is doing the challenge on a server where they have spent years building up resources, they can simply use those resources to support their new characters. A lot of what makes Hardcore appealing is therefore lost. Particularly, the feeling of "everyone starting fresh from day one and then seeing what you as a player can achieve within the limited and strict death penalty."

My personal opinion on what might come closest to recreating that experience without needing a separate Hardcore server would be a "home server" system. Each account could choose one server as their home server. Then, during seasonal Hardcore events, if a player creates a new character on a server other than their home server, that character could earn the same types of rewards associated with Hardcore, such as mounts, cloaks, footprints, etc., for achievements like favor, levels, and Reaper Points earned on that server.

During these events, characters created on those servers could also have access to a lantern type cosmetic or similar buy in features that are already being used with the current softcore style. I would also restrict progress toward Hardcore achievements so that it could only be earned while playing with other players actively participating in the Hardcore experience.

The main change I would make to the current softcore system is adding a tag to items so that ONLY the character who looted the item can use it. Allowing characters that are not participating in the event to farm gear for their Hardcore characters is too easy and undermines the challenge that Hardcore is meant to provide.

I would also reset first time favor rewards, including DDO Points, on servers other than the player's home server each season for players actively participating in the event. This would give players another reason to participate if they are not interested in the current rewards provided by the achievements.

I think this could solve one of the biggest problems with a separate Hardcore server: the "casual" population feels isolated from the rest of the game. Instead, you would be mixing the Hardcore population into the existing server communities while still giving players a reason to participate in the seasonal challenge.

It also avoids the additional cost and infrastructure of setting up and maintaining a completely separate server. You would essentially be using the existing servers to create a temporary Hardcore experience without permanently splitting the player population.
They could do that without a new server. I was playing a WoW private Server that had a hardcore solo self found ruleset that you could follow if you wanted. If you chose that, you couldn't group with non HCSSF characters that were more than like 4 levels higher that you or something like that. You couldn't use your mail or the auction house, and you could only trade items with players who were in the group when the item dropped.

While I don't think DDO would or could do the same things, they could do similar things I wager, and it wouldn't incur the additional cost of having another temporary server.

I agree. What is missing from the OG HC style event verse the current SC style is without a lot of these restrictions it's just a permadeath event. The last event was probably my favorite, but it was so easy just to bypass the whole challenge of it. Also playing on your "home server" doesn't capture the vibe that made HC especially enjoyable for players like myself. It was the "fresh start", "playing with people from different servers", etc. I'm sure they could do any of those options including a temporary server, but I know that comes with the fear of splitting the population for 30-90 days and also making the rewards obtainable by the games more casual, not so elitist player base.

The issue was stated by the producer during a live chat session that the 64 bit Architecture will not support the hardcore model. it is definitely a loss in game play options, I personally believe hardcore is a tournament event which draws continued world wide attention to the DDO game world. I signed the petition in both formats but wouldn't hold out any hope unless a benefactor chose to invest in SSG DDO and forced the issue.
Why doesn't the 64 bit architecture support HC? I don't understand that.

I am one of those who doesn't play anymore. I was a subscriber for years. I'll come back for HC if it ever happens again, and so will several others I know. But the "HC lite" events just don't cut it.

It obviously does but the reason players spend money on hardcore characters is because they can transfer them off the server to the live servers after the event. With 64bit to 64bit transfers disabled at the moment some players will spend less on a character that will get wiped.

Hardcore isnt something they do to keep players happy, its there to make money.

I dont either but she stated that the equipment is not available for HC server as it was on the 32 bit servers maybe something about the virtual server model engine ? no clue I asked the question during a live event and that was the answer the hardware didn't support the software model or something. ask @Cordovan he was hosting the live chat .
