Build advice on ranger life

Still trying to achieve my first completionist (it has been 15 years, but I can only play a few weeks every summer), I just need a Paladin, Bard and Ranger life. For flavor reasons, I prefer traditional classes and not archetypes.

I don't run epics and I prefer melee, but I had fun on a dwarven artificer. I suck playing casters. I found two old ranger build I'd like to try, they are outdated by I don't think it matters in heroics. One is 6 rogue/12 ranger/2 artificer, but maybe the dual khopesh tempest would be easier. As plan B, is Strimtom's Acid Arrow still viable?

Any advice?

Pure 20 Melee Tempest does the job just fine and will be stronger than your proposed split class.

The acid arrow is still viable but there are better archer builds that still have a Ranger icon.

Why don't you run epics? You're missing out on most of the fun.

Splitting a Tempest build typically yields a meh Tempest (at least for this casual grunt); that said, you would also probably have fun on your Pally life doing a 15/5 Tempest (called an Iron Thot in some arenas; *nod to some ol' CC guildies*). Don't even bother taking a single pally enhancement point...just Tempest and DWS and some flavor Uni tree like Horizonwalker or Vistani. And pile on Holy Sword at 15...it was pretty fun. Hit hard on Heroics.
Bard...meh you're on your own, love em in raids, but not enough info to offer anything of value.

For Bard, I still want to try the very old Axesinger. The original dual Dwarven Axe (2 rogue / 3 fighter / 15 bard). It was reworked as the Kundarak Axesinger (8/12 with THF), but I still like the concept. Of course, it needs a serious rework nowadays.

Pure Dark Hunter does pretty much everything the classic Tempest Trapmonkey did, with the added bonus that if you don't like dual-wielding, you can make, say, a 2H Dark Hunter with +1 crit range & multiplier from the Dark Hunter and Deepwood Stalker trees. Dark Wolf pet is optional.

Pure ranger archer still works fine but there are stronger DPS options if you have the Horizon Walker tree. Even then, heroic-leveling an archer can be unsatisfying compared to, say, a good repeater or Inquisitive build. Dark Hunter or ranger Inquisitive probably works fine for farming a past-life.

To quote another poster: builds have a shelf life. Dual-wielding bard is obsolete outside of some pretty niche options like Vistani.

Most recent iteration of 2H bard I posted was this one. FYI there are some tweaks to bards coming in the next update; one of which is Warchanter DCs will use the highest of CHA/DEX/STR rather than just CHA. So may want to switch back to STR-based bard for that.

The khopesh is a decent weapon but hasnt been as well represented in Heroics as other weapon types since Knights Training was introduced. Nightforge Avenger Blade is one of the best for heroics atm and easy to obtain.

THF Paladin is very strong.

Swash Bard with handaxe and 6-8 levels of Fighter for Kensei. If you dont like Swashbuckling then 8 levels of Fighter will get you there with THF.
