Can we please get away from this Codex of Infinite planes thing?

I always assumed the Codex was the only way they were allowed by WotC to incorporate other settings like that, so they were stuck reusing the same Macguffin ad nauseum

Its not a big deal for me since its just a framing device, really. At this point its kinda like complaining that a hospital show keeps talking about medicine. It does, but its really just a device to build character development and interpersonal storylines on.

Yeah, I've kinda thought the same thing. And that's fine from a back-end, man-behind-the-curtain reason for bludgeoning the poor horse named Codex to death over and over and over and over.

It's just that from a user-perspective (and only speaking for my own personal perspective) it's just a dreadful snoozefest. As soon as I hear that the Codex is being trotted out again for another beating, I Pavlovian Response tune out and lose all interest. Which from a design perspective is actually harmful, since the goal of new content is supposed to spur interest and the desire to play it asap. The Codex just serves to remind me that there are other games I could be playing.

They need to/should do negotiate another McGuffin. Let this one RIP. IMHO, and nothing more.

I agree. The creativity of the devs isn't what it used to be.

Besides, the whole codex "thing" feels like techno music, it sounds like it's building to some peak or climax, but just keeps on sounding the same.

Perfectly said!

I'm just happy someone appreciates my humour! Can you tell my wife?!!? ??

Ok, I just told her, but she's really grumpy when first walking up. I see what you mean. )

But seriously, you shouldn't have one plot going on for years. Theres' better things to do.

------------------------------------

Going by original lore, most NPC's should be dead, and the Codex lost.

The Codex instantly destroys anyone under 11th level who touches it. (Most people.)
Anyone reading a page has a 99% chance of a swift and terrible fate. (Everyone else.)
The Codex was held in the Elemental Plane of Fire, after a failed coup on the City of Brass. (An army of 4 million Efreet if I recall.)

But somehow... we're dealing with it, for 8 years?

I agree that we should move away from it for a while. There are a few other stories I would like to see continued:

- Doaam: I'd like to see us take the fight to them. We start an invasion to their continent. First set of quests would be a scouting mission, followed by some gorilla warfare type missions (destroy weapons depot, assassinate key figures, etc), all ending in a new raid where we launch a full out raid.
- Sharn: Lets pursue The Fallen! I want to know who hired them, how did they get tied to the devils, and what in the world is behind that big door in project nemesis!!!

- Savarath: Speaking of the devils, I think its about time we repay them a visit. Sure, we bested Horoth in the Tower, but that just shifted power. We need to finish this fight once and for all

There are so many open ends to quest lines, it would be nice to finish of a bunch of them. New raids, new lands (Droaam would be amazing to visit!), new monsters! LETS GO!
I think calling the Codex of Infinite Planes has been an easy cop out to be lazy with story writing imho, I must admit when it is done right it is amazing (like one of the new quests on Lamm for the new expansion. (that is all I will mention on that topic). I have said for years I am fed up of 'oh adventurers please collect this page' as it has become boring, tedious and repetitive. People argued the Planar eyes were repetitive but I personally thought they were done right due to each quest having its own element.
The quote I am quoting would be my dream, I love DDO stories especially ones like the Black Abbot and epic orchard (the last story to my memory to be amazing).
I fell in love with The Fallen villains and would love to learn more about them.
Shavarath I have always wanted to go back to as in Chronoscope Nelle Gann goes to Shavarath to rescue her brother, I feel we still need to do this.
Finally Droaam, is 100% agreeable I would love another extension on this, in particular fighting all the Daughters of Sora Kell or even Sora Kell herself with the daughters.
An addition I would add to this list is giving us another Argonessen pack perhaps going there as the closest we have been is Reaver's Refuge, we could perhaps explore Velah and Kor Kaza's past or something, have Velah as a dracolich.

Codex pages I feel have been overused as a plot point, the codex itself is underutilized in comparison seeing as it is a sentient entity.
It's nice to have a quest where it acts as an antagonist rather than it only really acting independently in legendary shroud.
I think the worst thing about codex pages is in the vast majority of quests involving them they're not really doing anything at all so serve no purpose, besides an excuse for the gatekeepers to involve us in the storyline. Which stands as a stark contrast to the planar eyes which turn whereever they are into a manifest zone of their corresponding plane so they can't avoid feeling relevant to their quests.

If there's ever to be more quests involving the codex it absolutely should involve planar shenanigans.

Definitely should not be any more Droam or Shavarath material.

Would love more classic modules though.
