Can we talk about Heavy Armor?

Can we just talk about how pathetically bad the design for heavy armor is in this game? Since AC means virtually nothing in this game (unless you have a significant amount like 300+), all it does is cap your dodge off and actually make you easier to hit. All of your new armor designs give the same PRR/MRR bonuses regardless of armor type. I've had an easier time wearing cloth armor with 40% dodge than playing a thf paladin with over 200 standing AC. It would be nice if it at least had the Deflect Arrows built into it or gave twice as much PRR. I shouldn't be dying to hailstorms of arrows while wearing heavy armor. Ac actually meant something in tabletop 3.5; not sure why its ignored in this game :\

I would like to see someone shoot an arrow using a recurve bow thru 1/8" steel plate.

I used to shoot varsity archery in college and when we hit the target's wooden frame, the arrow went in 1/4" and ruined the tip, shaft or both. I think it would just make a neat dent in plate.

Heavy armor can use more AC and PRR for sure.

I could imagine a few advantages wearing a Heavy Armor
  • Immunity or at least damage reduction against mechanical/force traps. It would have some synergy with the new Epic Destiny acctive PL toggle
  • Missile Deflection
  • 1-5% chance to reflect back the damage to the attacker
  • Percent base DR (bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing)
  • Extra stacking elemental absorbtion (depending on the material)
  • Damage reduction against critical hits and special attacks
These are just a few ideas. Lets see yours!

Firstly, I second all of these ideas. I'm not 100% on board in regards to reflecting damage, but definitely implementing a piercing guard on some plates wouldnt hurt.

Some things I'd like to see:
  • Make heavy armor feats accessible to all classes proficient with it.
    • Implement Deflect arrows into the Heavy Armor Master feat.
    • Implement a stacking 3-5% non-magical damage reduction per each heavy armor feat obtained.
    • Grant heavy armor feats through cores in Nature's Defender, Sacred Defender, and Stalwart Defender trees for 2 points each.
    • Increase the PRR and MRR granted by each feat by 50%.
    • Have each Heavy Armor feat contribute to the Heroic Durability feat.
    • Have each Heavy Armor feat provide a stacking +1 +3 AC.
  • Greatly increase the AC heavy armor currently provides
    • Since dodge is the stronger miss chance in the game, provide an increased miss chance for heavy armor.
  • Greatly increase the PRR provided by heavy armor
    • I get that dodge is logically/mechanically the stronger option for avoiding damage, but if I'm wearing heavy armor, I shouldn't be taking the same amount of damage I do in cloth armor, at an increased rate due to lack of dodge/miss chance.
    • The armors in this game are so lazily made to provide the same bonus to PRR/MRR across the selection of armor types. I would have provided percentage bonuses to PRR and MRR depending on the type of armor you are wearing (cloth, light, medium, heavy).
  • Elemental absorptions and resistances could be a nice tack on, but shouldn't be a part of the core armor mechanics.

Remove Heavy Armor at all.
Look out the window - how many fighters in heavy armor will you see? I can only remember the sappers. All other fighters use what can be called an analogue of light armor, fighters of assault squads can use medium armor.
Why? This is a consequence of natural selection in the armour/weapon confrontation.
I do not see a single reason why in a world where ranged weapons prevail, it should be somehow different.
:p
