So I had a LFM for Fire over Morgrave up. One of the people in the group needed burning planar scraps so I wante to put "Farming burning planar scraps" in the comment line. Turns out scraps is a forbidden word.

Unfortunately, this word has two immediate words that would fall foul to a banned wordlist straight away;

Remove the two s at front and start, and you have one word.
Remove that remaining words c and add an e to the end of that remaining word of rap, and we have another.

The censor is ridiculous. Especially when it censors in-game words lol. I believe scroll and penetration are a no no as well? Might just be in chat (though at least you can disable that).

The second word makes sense, but I suspect it's the first word since there is no e there. That seems a bit oversensitive though. I know lots of people who avoid swearing and still say that one.

Over-sensitivity in today's world...Who'd've thunk it? :)

Fuchs (which means fox in German) also a forbidden word in my main's bio.
Not even an English word!
Haus Feuerfuchs (House Firefox) was my first guild on Wayfinder. I wrotr it in my bio but the game blocked it.

It's actually fairly standard fare across the board for most online games with communications aspects. We're lucky we don't have silly automated warning and bans implemented like some other games or where even criticising the game or various parts of it would get you banned.

When you look at a word one at a time, it does seem silly.

But there are people out there who are insane and hate DDO to the point of multiple times daily will take the time to create a new character JUST to put up some message in an LFM that is crude and insulting. If you don't know what I'm talking about then you are probably pretty new to the game. And there really is no way to stop it.

What should SSG do to stop this? They have to keep someone watching the LFMs 24 hours a day just to make sure something revolting doesn't show up there and delete it immediately. It isn't sustainable.

Also there are certain people out there who pride themselves on spelling out some very crude and troublesome concepts and feel that it is funny to get one by the sensors in a name or lfm. There was a thread a few days ago about some poor soul who couldn't TR because he used a name that implies being under the influence of drugs. I am sure he thought it was very funny and he was very clever up until he couldn't TR.

I can think of a dozen very crude run together words that have crap in them that rightly do not belong in this game.

The devs get grief from parents when some bonehead makes some disgusting name. The devs get grief when they change peoples names without their knowledge. The devs get grief when they try to implement a filter. It really is a no win situation for them.

SSG could just ban names, one at a time as they come to them, as they will sometimes do if someone complains, but the problem is there are tens of thousands of names and only a few of the devs. And scouring the name list is time consuming.

So the easy way out is the filter. If some players were not so crude the filter wouldn't be necessary. It is a cumbersome tool that sweeps wide with it's net. But getting rid of those worst names and lfms is worth the smaller amount of grief they get over the zealous nature of the filter.

And I would caution against trying to defeat the filter. Your "funny" LFM post might get you in trouble or even banned. IF it is legitimate, like scraps, you will probably be OK. But it is best not to poke the beast.

The filter system is questionable. The other day I opened the LFM panel and I saw this by a player:

"Legendary p0rn party to kill the gigant d1ldo Incanni in the legendary s3x raid - Legendary Tempest Spine"

I made a screenshot of it.

Just an example how can players overcome the filter easily.
