Caster pass... When, devs?

It's sheer stubbornness to insist on a flawed design, limiting a staff to only 6 enchantments and two augment slots, when wielding two weapons grants you 8 enchantments and 4 augment slots. Anyone who knows how to add knows it's a failed idea, but they refuse to admit it, and until they do, staves are going to be disappointing.

But look, I've already given up on that. They're capable of nerfing scepters instead of making staves decent. They already made Dino (crafted) Orbs subpar by preventing you from adding LGS enchantments to them, and Lamordia Crafting doesn't even have an orb.

The only practical advantage for staves is they're cheaper to craft in terms of materials if you're using IoD or the new lamordia stuff. That's it, can't think of anything else.

And before somebody says it - no, dots are not the solution because they seem completely incapable of creating dots that do not overwrite each other. It has to be a solution that works, not a bugged one. So, if devs want to create/improve dots, first they need to fix them!!
I'm really struggling to bridge the disconnect between casters that are soloing r10 and matching melee dps test times vs threads like this doomsaying the uselessness of casters...

Which DOTs are you talking about? and how are they not working?

I'd be surprised if you could find me a caster without timestop that beats 120k dps on purple rares (self debuffs only).
I'm not saying that is an accurate measurement tool, just mentioning it for the sake of the discussion.

I'd like to know who said in this thread that they are matching melee DPS with their casters, because from what I've seen, they're saying the opposite, that caster DPS is far behind that weapon users.

And I agree with them.

Trying to defend the indefensible?

Them fighting words. Care to provide some evidence for casters matching melee dps test time?

There was a statement made in this thread that casters are soloing R10s. If so, they're in a great place, don't touch them!

Not to send this discussion down a different path, but SSG's inability to make a caster staff a truly viable alternative to two weapons (or weapon and orb/shield) is another issue...

More to your point...I am not ready to give up the game, but I have indeed given up on arcane casters. They are my favorite type of role (blowing stuff up with big light shows is satisfying when it works), and my main has always come back to an arcane caster build after I tired of the PL grind. But now that he is complete, I came to the realization I would rarely if ever play him at end game if he stayed a caster. So he became ranged DPS...

When not running end game stuff as an Artificer, I get some satisfaction of my urge to blow stuff up by taking my former ranged character and beginning his racial PL journey as a sorcerer. It is still fun while leveling even if pointless at cap. If I get him finished up in a year or two and casters still suck at cap, then it will be probably be time to admit that SSG can never make it right and find a new game.

Would be interesting to have a Caster only feat (like you need 10 or more Arcane levels) to use Orbs with Staffs. One less issue to solve, instead of buff staffs, make it work in conjunction with orbs.

Or just make staffs great again.

Why does everything always need a complex solution.

Any class can solo r10. However, nowadays it's easier to do so with melee or ranged classes. The DPS is much higher, and there are more than enough crowd control options available.

Should we then nerf martials to bring them down to the level of casters? If, in your opinion, casters are in a great place, then that would be the logical choice.

It is SSG, used to nothing being simple... Most the time, just think on the absurd and raise the bar.

Jokes aside. Asking to make Quarterstaffs "great again" implies all Quarterstaffs, even the Martial oriented ones. My line of thinking was more on the spirit of the OP request "Caster pass"... so, something just casters caster could benefits from.

Which nukers are matching melee DPS kobold times?

Soloing R10s isn't really notable on ranged/nukers because of perch spots/kiting. It may take way longer than melee, but it's way easier than melee.

Regardless of the uselessness statements, the optics around nukers is atrocious. It's just psychology that people don't want to play something nerfed (ie R7-R10, which also impacts imbue heavy builds).

From a regular R10/Raid perspective, Melee and Casters are just dead weight. TOAN, DOV, and Relentless are all melee nightmares, and casters have no place there.

Optimal comp is literally 1 Tank, 1 Heals, 10 Ranged. We speedrun TOAN in 10-13 mins with that setup.

And for R10s? DC Casters are dead. Dragon Lord is basically the god-tier DC Caster now—AoE Insta-kills + AoE Helpless CC. Why bring a Caster when a Dragon Lord does it better?"

I really miss playing a Magic Missile Wizard from the pre-nerf Shiradi era. There was nothing like the sheer satisfaction of seeing a swarm of missiles shredding enemies with endless procs
