Celebrate 2025 with Free Access to DDO’s Cormyr Server for a limited time!

Correct.

A few other points that have come up from the Discord:

- The accelerated Year of the Dragon reward claim will only be available on Cormyr, although per usual it unlocks for the account. If you have already claimed something, you shouldn't get a second one, but it will check to see if you have something claimed or not.

- Yes, the end of this free access period will also mark the end of the Lanterns in the Mist event on Cormyr.

- We are looking at an accelerated Lantern reward rate as part of the bonuses, which we expect to have more information on soon.
Has the Lantern of the Order been fixed? Or does it still only get 6 points regardless of mist stalker type?

I think it´s a good thing to let everyone check it out.
I personally don´t care if I can transfer a character to or from Cormyr, but I´ll definitely check it out, if only out of curiosity if there are fewer bugs or less lag there ...

Although I like the idea for everyone to get to try the new 64 bit server and finally see how it runs for them. But the timeframe "January 22nd through April 15th" is just way too long! Isn't this exactly the reason why Hardcore League is now in the gutter? Because you didn't want to move a big player base from the main servers to another and split the community for a long time?
Even marketing wise it would be smarter to cut the timeframe to a few weeks tops. People will literally go get VIP after trying the new server and wanting to finish their lanterns for the other rewards.

Still only gets 6 durability for mists, so that is still 250 quests minus 1 quest for everytime a whisper shows up with your mist. It generally takes between 4-6 minutes for a mist to show up if you are doing it right, so that equates to 10-15 mists an hour, if we average that to 12.5 mists an hour, you are looking at 20 hours of gaming for the lantern of the order to fill. That is not including having to level to getnin the level ranges for the different required tiers, add in a other 10 hours for an average player, so a 30 hour investment.

So unless you like cosmetics like i do, or unless you like trophies to put on your wall to compete with other permadeathers who just dont match up in talent like my boyfriend does, then the event isnt really of any value other than burning time that could be spent on your main toons.

Of course that is wi th the exception that it is a new server and there are lots of ddo points available, so if you do a variety of quests while picking up lnterms you will cash in on a lot of favor and monster manual for ddo points while filling alll your lanterns. (Basically treat it like a hardcore but on your skull guys skip the riskiest quests/raids that you would normally do in hardcore)

Hadrcore isn't in the gutter...it was paused due to intolerable lag (which you cannot have in hardcore). devs might have decided to escalate their "lag killing solutions" by inviting everyone on cormyr so...it only makes sense for everyone to freebie-test cormyr inorder to determine the viability of hardcore 2025.

I guess they got way less lab rats, or vips if you wanna call them that to run their tests and now they are doing that 'promotion' to bring more
guinea pigs to this new server. Kinda funny.

its standard commercial practise to provide software to a concentrated audience to intensely test it before making it available to a wider audience. hence alpha, beta stage testing etc.

That's not true. Devs clearly stated they created the Lanterns event where Lantern Hardcore players could play together with non-Lantern Hardcore players because OG Hardcore devides the player base too much. OG Hardcore League won't come back anytime soon. It's in the gutter!

If you had watched either of the livestreams were this was discussed you would not have made a statement so wrong it makes my brain hurt.

Not true, there are plans to make an avtual real and true hardcore season. It would have the following on a temporary 64 bit server;

No prepurchase rewards

No expansion pack rewards save teleport device and cosmetics

Guild ships but no buffs avaialble

No store bought xp pots

Hounds will be active and adjusted to eat up anyone with multibox buffbots or pikers.

Quests will be closed for entry after five minutes, this is all quests and raids. No jumping in on your alts to get completions.

You will be given 3 character to start, regardless of the number of slots you have if you want more than that you will have to buy more. Farmers will need to farm on their valuable toons or if they die buy more access to extra characters.

SSG will make it happen!!

That's if all of the F2P players are ready to run every quest x3 times... 😆
Or do you expect every VIP player line up at Korthos waiting for F2P players to choose whom would they run with to open the difficulty they need to get max Favor ? 😏

Peated Problems

If I had to guess the logic behind things, my assumption is this:
1) The latern event is meant to be a lead in to the next (mini)expanansion (based off the ravenloft domain that ended up in the adventure wilderness panel recently)

2) The lantern event was originally intended to be on every server (based off the producers letter last year) but in order to sell the 64-bit server tech they made the event Cormyr only. They also limited Cormyr to VIP to prevent overloading the 64-bit servers and making them look bad during the initial testing.

3) As a result of #2, a bunch of people haven't gotten the #1 lead-in. So SSG's options are either run the event on all servers or a period of time where Cormyr is f2p access. f2p access probably does a good job of helping to sell the 64-bit tech as successful and additional stress testing before rolling out the tech more widely.

I could be totally wrong about any of this; it's just what I've pieced together in my head for why things are they way they are.
4) They're hoping sunk cost fallacy kicks in and people buy vip to 'not lose' that character, or even pay ot transfer it later.

This will be interesting on multiple levels.

I am torn between this being a good move in the long run vs potentially SSG pulled a douche move and conned people into subscribing to get something they will later be able to get for free anyway. I subbed to get access to Cormyr to see what it was like, and to support the tech upgrade decision. But I feel a bit like I've been kicked in the goolies.

Some people only had active VIP to try Cormyr out, those of us that did can now cancel subs.

You COULD look at this as the next phase of stress test because a greater portion of the playerbase wont be VIP, so potentially a huge amount of players could now join which COULD dwarf even the higher end of what Cormyr had (sometimes between 500-700 if memor serves, but defo well over 500. I keep tabs on how many people are online when I logged in). It was busy for a short time, but now it is more or less just another almost-dead server.

On the flip side, you could also look at it as, some people were lured into subbing thinking that VIPs were only ever going to be on that server, thinking that the only way to get 64 bit as a non-VIP would be to wait til they open a 2nd 64 bitter. This was never said outright, but it was the vibe that SSG put out. "Cormyr will be VIP only" would have been interpreted exactly as it sounds.

For those non-VIPs who do log in after the 22nd I would advise that you do not get attached to your characters on Cormyr. If youre going to try it out, look up how the Lantern durability system works before you start and that way you can maximise farming efficiency. Resist the urge to get store upgrades for these first lifers. This just smells like a trap to get you logged in there, because while youre there, you will want creature comforts like tomes and astral shards for chest rerolls, do not be tricked into wasting your store points on anything on Cormyr. Not until they allow transfers to it, which they almost certainly will one day, despite anything said previously.

I am now officially done with Cormyr.

"Hounds will be active." - That's me out. I am a carer and can be called away at any time and so dungeons with respawns are no go areas for me.

Good luck to everyone who plays and I hope you have fun.
