Change artifact universal spell crit to profane spell crit

Currently, there's 2 types of artifact spell crit set bonuses for gear. Regular artifact spell crit and artifact universal spell crit. These 2 types stack. But the naming of them is super confusing (and extra confusing since some gear mentions universal and other gear doesn't).

Items in blue text provide artifact spell crit. Items in red text provide artifact universal spell crit.

My suggestion is to change all the artifact universal spell crit sets to profane spell crit. Gear would still stack the same, but this would avoid any confusion on the naming scheme for what gear does/doesn't stack. Alongside this, SSG should add a new lunar augment for profane spell crit; this would allow for newer gear to be used (as right now we're stuck using the older gear sets for this).

Agree, it's confusing. I hope they don't just remove the stacking lol...
I wouldn't be surprised if there being in 2 seperate artifact categories that stack was the result of a dev mistake made years ago; that then got repeated onto other gear (it could've been by design too, IDK). But at this point, it's been a part of the game for many many years, so removing it would feel like a kick in the teeth to casters.

At this point I have like three teeth left.

The same goes for the "Solar Gem of Spellpower". While the value is the same as "Touch of Power" (+25 spell power) it acts as the specific spell type sets (Hruit's, Flamecleansed, bound elementals, etc...). The "added bonus" is that you don't get the full 30 sp you would from those sets.

I'm pretty sure this stacking is a mistake. The naming, the fact that there's no representation of the true universal set in solar gems, and the scant representation of the universal spell type sets in old gear make me think the devs had forgotten that there were two types of sets that stacked. But the casters are so bad that it would be insulting if they simply removed the stacking.

I agree with your suggestion, Rabid. In fact, I posted something similar in the Lammania thread.

I would prefer that they merge those two sets, creating a single one with double the value, but since that's not going to happen, changing one to profane is an acceptable alternative.

I'd call it artifact potency spell crit and artifact universal spell crit.
Leave profane spellcrit as a new affix.
By that same argument, future sets could have Alchemical, Circumstance, Determination, Divine, Legendary, Luck, Morale, Primal, Psionic, Quality or Sacred Spell Critical Chance instead.

Profane just fits into the existing systems better. It doesn't matter what you call it, only that it is obviously different.

Either way, I didn't know this, Fox. I guess I need to figure out how to slot three-piece Autumn into my casters.

The next expansion is coming in a few months; here's hoping we get a new solar lunar augment to cover universal artifact spell crit with it.z

edit: oops, meant lunar augment, same concept, wrong typing

“It turns out that the new universal spell critical chance augment did not make it into the loot for the quest and will be added in an upcoming patch” <—two weeks after pack was launched, written on page 3 of a player rant thread.

Sun and Moon Augments are 10 patches old, got 2 expansions and several adventure packs. I won't be surprised if it'll be replaced with something new in the newest expansion. 😆

They have copy and paste so many stuff so I am more surprised to see something new

The truth is, I wouldn't mind if they did. I consider the Sun/Moon system a failure. The splitting of stats that should be in a single gem (e.g., attack and damage, spell power and lore, etc.), combined with the more limited number of set slots, makes raid augmentats no longer optional; they're mandatory.

It's a flawed system that prevents you from using it properly unless you're a raid grinder. Additionally, some raid augmentts come from rarely played raids, making it difficult to obtain them outside of guilds dedicated to raiding and committed to helping all their members.

Making many gems rare is another thing that ruins the system. Or the fact that there's a superabundance of Sun gems versus Moon gems, and the ultimate problem, which Rabidfox mentions in this thread: that casters have two artifact sets with the same stats, and one that isn't represented in the Sun/Moon system.

Sun/Moon is a good idea with poor implementation. And at this point, I think it's perfectly clear that it's even worse and more restrictive than the old sets. It could be better if they fixed its flaws, but they're not going to, so as far as I'm concerned, the sooner they replace it, the better.

@Tonquin, could you please do something about this? Having two artifact sets with the same stats (spellpower, crit chance, crit damage) and one of them not represented in the Sun/Moon system is really crippling casters.

Please, remove the stacking and double the value, or at least make one of them profane. The latter would be a nerf, because profane spellpower already exists, so if you do this please compensate for the loss of spellpower in another way.

And please don't nerf spell DPS again. Casters are painfully behind in DPS.
