Change with shield mastery specialty?

I have all pre-reqs for shield mastery specialty:

perfect shield mastery, greater shield mastery, improved shield mastery, shield mastery

and greater thf, perfect thf.

I cannot select perfect shield mastery. I am training to 31 (when it is selectable).

Why is this? Has this always been unselectable? It is selectable in ddobuilder.

Only Pre I see is being lvl 22. Just to make sure but you are lvling to 31?
What other feats are selectable?

Cheers,
Titus

Hmmm, the wiki says 'greater weapon style feat other than this one'. I wonder if that shouldn't instead say something like, 'you must have a greater weapon style feat AND you must NOT have the greater weapon style feat for THIS style'.

Essentially, is Greater Shield Mastery an anti-requisite for Shield Mastery Specialty?

My recollection when these 'specialty' feats came out was that the intent was to give you bonuses in a weapon style OTHER than the one you bought all the way up to 'greater'.

Do you mean you are trying to take Shield Mastery Specialty at 31? That is designed for players that do not have any shield mastery feats because it duplicates the feats you already have.

Those level 31 feats are for you to take a 2nd line effectively. So if you had done 2-handed line, you could grab shield line with it. Or if you leveled with SWF, you could take this or take THF 31 feat and gain the equivalent of those feats.

Yeah looks like it. I took crushing weakness instead. I might have been able to save a feat or two had I known that, but I liked/wanted greater/perfect shield mastery in the low epics.

Thank you all!

It does feel very confusing. The name of these feats does not lend itself to meaning that they are for dipping into a 2nd combat style.

IMO they should be renamed to something like "Secondary Specialization: XXX"

If you're willing to respec - or planning an epic PL - you could take the heroic Shield Mastery + Perfect SM feats while leveling, then take THF Specialty at level 31. Perfect THF doesn't require the base THF feat the way the other Perfect combat-style feats do, so you can grab that along the way too. Same idea with this paladin build: SWF feats for attack speed bonus while leveling, THF Specialty for extra Strikethrough at endgame. This is the "correct" way to use the Specialty feats IMO.

I will have to peep that. Having a lot of fun with this vanguard pally, and want to revisit the feats i took based off of the feats you took in yours when i etr back into the same build.

I really wish there was an endgame sun blade so a swash fighter split could roll with swf+ shield mastery and thf spec at cap :D

15-20/x3 with 30% atk spd and 200% sthrough lol
