Is it an actual item in the game? For all classes? Some classes? Some of the character creation screen gear looks pretty neat, and it makes me wonder if it's actually an equipable in game item.

Cartographer Extraordinary
The iconic ones you get when you make an iconic character, but only characters that are currently in that iconic can wear it. The rest of them largely don't appear in game, although some of the base classes are wearing pretty standard random gen armors.

Let's see:
Fighter armor: random gen armor combo, kinda on the rare side but obtainable
Dragonlord: Almost identical to the Executioner's Platemail from Slave Lords, just leg plates instead of chain underneath
Barbarian: VERY common random gen hide armor
Paladin: random gen armor pieces but I think that particular combo is extremely rare or possibly because the cloth thing usually appears on chain and the brass plate is exclusive to heavy armor, but you can definitely get ones very SIMILAR to this
Sacred Fist: very common random gen outfit under with the upper from the Icy Raiment, I'm not sure this is obtainable in this exact configuration
Monk/Dragon Disciple: Icy Raiment (why are these two the same?)
Sorcerer/Wild Mage: random gen robe of the older type, these are REALLY hard to get nowadays, most of the current random gen robes are gray or brown or some other mud color
Cleric: shield is the Wrath of Siberys and I think a couple of other named shields, the armor is possible to get very very rarely with random gen
Wizard: random gen armor, very common random gen staff, I actually have a copy of that robe sitting around I think
Favored Soul: fairly common random gen chainmail
Druid: Beast cosmetic armor from quite a long ways back that isn't obtainable in game combined with part of Leaves of the Forest, low level named shield I'm too lazy to look up right now but it's easy to get
Blight Caster: beast cosmetic armor with some apparently random stuff stuck on it
Warlock: never seen this armor anywhere but in character creation screen
Acolyte of the Skin: same as warlock, they just switched the upper, it was purpose-made for character creation and can't be gotten in game
Ranger, Dark Hunter, Rogue, Bard, Artificer all these are ultra-common random gen armors
Alchemist: not uncommon random robe appearance, but it doesn't have an upper which is VERY rare in random gen robes, they almost always have an upper piece and most of them are *****
