Claw of Vulkoor - Shatterbow Optional

Hi, I just ran Claw of Velkoor (Red Fens) three times thinking I'd get the Shatterbow as an option in the end rewards. Apparently running the quest three times only gives the choice of the non-optional loot. So I need to run it and try not to kill any scorpions. I'm thinking of running it on heroic just because then maybe my hide is high enough that I don't get caught. Any tried that?

If I kill a guardian do I lose the optional? If so, how can I get the last scorpion off it's hexagon without any traps to distract it?

Advice appreciated. It seems like a cook piece of gear for constructs.

Yes, you lose the optional. If the guardian or its friend aren't a champion with see invis or true seeing, you can turn invisible, walk nearby, lead them away as they investigate your footsteps, then circle back around to place the staff.

Were you planning on using the bow in epics as an epic version? Assuming you are not planning to sink a sentient gem into it, there are better options; the Syrian weapons out of sharn or the Shining Reliquary ones.

It is not BtA so you might otherwise find it on the AH. A stealthy player can get it easily--as Gram says, you need to be attentive to the See invisibility of the champ mobs there and a lot will have it now, so you can forget using invisi to move the mobs. You need to stealth it and you need to know how to do it. There are some old vids of folks online that show how to stealth it.

Due to power creep you can get a high stealth score on an epic character and do as you suggest--just run heroic and upgrade it. You will still have difficulty moving the last two scorpions if you do not have a noisemaker; for the last one you can use a flaming sphere.

Thanks for the pointers. 10 tries as an epic running on Heroic normal and busted each time. Time to pivot. Thanks for putting me onto the Syrian bow, I think I need to add one. I have the Ship-seige bow at various levels. What I liked about the Epic Shatterbow Is that it throws sonic which, unlike the Ship-Siege (fire) or the Syrian (electric), doesn't heal any of the constructs - at least I don't think the helmed horror in DW uses sonic and heals from it in such a form. This way its one bow for iron golems and flesh golems and (hopefully) helmed horrors.

Nice idea on the Shining Reliquary. I hadn't thought of it because it doesn't have the bane (only EO), but otherwise it looks great. Thank you!

Little bit late here, but have you tried Noisemaker Traps? They’ll pull mobs from a pretty big range and are more reliable than trying to use your footsteps.

You need to be a class that can make traps, but I love using these to try to solo super stealth quests.

Unfortunatley no ability. I wish. I went in on heroic as an Epic with move silently and invisibility pots, 10 times, failed. I had to give up.

Tried it on epic stealthy rouges and always failed.

The shatterbow is just a trophy. Great if you manage to get one, silly if you actually use it for combat.

Using my Warforged Rogue at lv 32 I managed to loot 10 of these on Heroic Elite when I was farming Red Fens. I used noise makers and had only move silently and hide only. After completing the quest, I had everyone else run up to get the loot.
