Client Launch Issue

I've been having an issue as of today getting my client to boot up. I get an error message even before the client can open: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item." Other times I get an error code 205 (not sure what this means and I can't seem to replicate it. I've tried running the program as an administrator, troubleshooting compatibility, changing DPI settings (though I didn't think this would work), and completely reinstalling the ddo folder. I'm on windows 10 still if that helps.

Any ideas?

As an update to my issues, I've got nothing. OneDrive is set to store everything on my computer (it wouldn't let me disable it completely), and I've exempt ddo from my antivirus shenanigans.

Any other ideas?

You might try making an exception for onedrive to not touch
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\OneDrive\Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online

I've figured out how to unlink one drive completely, so it shouldn't bother that folder, but nothing has changed. I've also tried running the installer application to use the "repair" function, but that doesn't seem to have helped either.

Thanks again for your replies. I've tried following the video steps but they seem to have a different problem for a different game. I found the local .log file that details what's going wrong, but I don't have any experience in this stuff, and I'm not exactly sure what to make of it.

I think it suggests I am missing crucial .dll files in my program folder, but considering I've ran the repair function in the installer multiple times and that I've completely uninstalled + reinstalled the game, I don't think this should be the issue. Advice I've seen on similar forums regarding this error was to rename the .ini file in the documents after disabling one drive so the game remakes the file, but that hasn't helped.

The error I get is "The game client was passed invalid command-line parameters. [205]"

Edit: the fourms seem to have transformed all of my colon + Ps in the log info into tounge emojis. Just another way the game mocks me.

I've also tried running the x64 client in the separate folder, but that one has the same problem.

Any other ideas?

Try step 3 to manually install directx9 library files and reboot your computer to see if that helps. Also try 14 & 20 for dotNet and Visual C++ files.

This is a really in-depth guide. I followed steps 4 and 20; the second link in step 14 is broken. It hasn't worked so far.

I've completed the steps in your guide and it also hasn't helped. I'm not sure what to do at this point, but I made a support ticket with SSG and now I'm waiting for them to get back to me.

If the game is reporting missing dlls i'm wondering: did you install to the default location (likely C:/program files) or somewhere else? Windows in kinda notorious for trying to control your stuff.
It might be worth uninstalling and trying the unofficial non-installer to a completely different folder to see if that helps?

I wanted to update this thread in case someone has a similar problem. I contacted support and they led me through a series of steps to troubleshoot the issue, but what ended up working in the end was installing it through Steam on my external hard drive. Perhaps this isn't the best solution, and soon I will try installing it again on my internal hard drive to see if there are still issues. I suspect some greater Windows problem--I'm still on Windows 10 and not looking forward to being forced to upgrade in the future.
