Now maybe I am being a bit precious here, and if so please say so, but if I am stood in an empty bank, no other players in the bank at all, and someone comes in and and just stands on top of me. I view that as being very rude and I will automatically view that person as an incredibly self centred person with absolutely no idea that a world exists outside of themselves. Am I right?

Strictly speaking you're correct.

It's just that there aren't any other type of players in DDO anno 2026.

The more likely scenario is that it's part of a habit - that they go to the spot they always go.

I had someone once complain I left my character in front of a quest which is where I ended up afk for a bit after recalling. He said it was hard to use the door with me blocking it. It honestly never occurred to me that someone would try and use a door that way, but now I try to be back a bit from the door for people that don't use target/select for such things as I do.

I doubt someone was trying to ruin your day by using the bank.

Others are not self-centered for not taking this into consideration because most people are not annoyed by others standing on top of them while they're doing their banking. Bank, inventory, etc is filling their screen and there is no downside to players sharing the space while banking. Further, it's something you can fix by taking a step to the left or right with little issue. Standing on top of eachother does not impair either parties ability to do banking. There is no downside?

If something was considered impolite and annoying or made their life more difficult then sure you could make the case. But this is not something most people would be annoyed at or consider impolite, so they don't think the other ddo players in the bank would mind either. It just doesn't occur to anyone that it might be that way.

Thus, considering others as "incredibly self-centered as a person with absolutely no idea that a world exists outside of themselves" seems very extreme in a scenario such as this.

Verdict: Very precious.

That said I'll keep this in mind next time I do my banking, maybe this is the cultural shift that the world needs in 2026.

I can't imagine ever getting my feelings hurt over something so minor and feeling like I needed to complain about it. But that's the world we live in today.

Verdict: Very precious.

Just out of curiosity..........gen z or alpha? Seems like the younger generations get upset over nothing burgers a lot.

I'm afraid I have to join the "it's you" side here. It's not even that I consider it a minor issue, I don't consider it an issue all. Am I missing something here? in over 15 years I've never once even thought about someone standing at the same spot as me. As far as I can tell it doesn't affect me at all??

All this tells me is you have nearly zero gaming, MMORPG and DDO experience lol

you know when you have to move to be able to click on a vendor... if you picked the good spot.. thats what others have to do. im just glad if they dismount at least

It is rude, but not because they stood on top of you so much as they block or make difficult your ability to access the bank UI.

I would also say that to a good segment of the player base other players are on the same level as NPC's in their world.

Players cannot physically block another as far as I can tell. You can move through each other, and even if someone else is in your way, you can select through them with the default Q and E keys.

As far as I know, other players also cannot block your menu screens. This includes UI elements for quests, banking, enhancements, character sheet, etc.

Now, players might not be able to see through each other because of graphical effects, which can be a pain at times, but you can still walk through them, select through them, and attack through them.

That being said, the other player isn't preventing you from doing what you want, and you're not preventing them from doing what they want, you're just the one complaining about it and arbitrarily trying to enforce your code of conduct onto them.

Pro tip: What a player can do if they find themselves in this situation is reach up under their skirt, grab their dainty panties, unwad them, and then move on with their life.

Depends... Most players run around as if they're on autopilot, oblivious to everyone else around them. Now if you moved away from them, only for them to follow you, then I'd be very suspicious of their motives.

to be honest I'd kind of think that of someone who raises a stink about where other players stand in a game with no player to player collision and for some reason thinks that other players actively make the decision to stand on top of them.

It's a bit impolite but not rude.
I always make sure to dismount or leave animal form and park pets away from the banker. If there is anyone working with the banker, there are others I can go to. If there is a crowd at all of them, I try to take a position far enough away to get the job done but not visually crowd any one else there.
I realize there can be 100 toons stacked in a spot to bank, but it can be a mess getting the curser to hit the bank and not one of the myriad of characters banking.
The "complaint" is just a throwback to the real world where you don't crowd anyone in front of you.
BTW, the banker in the harbor is always a mess.

By far my most unhinged angry in-game DDO message came from someone who could absolutely not fathom that I was just going to the bank and determined my positioning must be a deliberate attack upon their in-game experience.

For me, and many others, banking = enter bank, walk to somewhere semi-vendor proximate, backspace, 'u', CTRL+F1 - we're bankin' baby!

Could I tell you if anyone else was in the bank when I arrived / arrived at the bank while I was banking / it was busy generally?
No unless they had amazing swag.

I, and many other players (no idea of proportions), receive no negative impact whatsoever from other players being on/near/green-dragon-mounted around bankers, so it doesn't occur to us to attempt to think about repositioning to guess at what's necessary to cater for people who don't use keyboard shortcuts as second nature.

You can interpret this categorical-imperative-compliant genuinely ethical behaviour as "very rude", "incredibly self-centred" and "no idea a world outside themselves exists", but are you strong enough to point that high-powered perception at yourself?

Is the ask that everyone should, "Manoeuvre in such a way that they're not blocking the view of a player's camera to be able to physically click on the banker"?
Even if everyone somehow remembered this was a "good thing to do" (probably impossible given the lack of reinforcement feedback/overall rational reason to do so given the aggregate lack of efficiency and existence of keyboard shortcuts), I suspect people would still find a way to be offended as either they:
- 'shouldn't have to zoom out/rotate the camera/make it more vertical' or
- 'could clearly see I was using that banker first'.

I'd put the spidermen-pointing-at-each-other meme with 'lack of empathy' here if I had more skills.
