Con to hit.... but not dmg

KeithUs Jr.

I don't work for SSG- I pay their bills.
Every other Ability Score has a "x to hit and damage". Dwarf tree does give the Con to damage, but not hit. What a nice QoL change that'll be sometime ;)

Don't really see that happening, because... 'Hey let's give someone MOAR DPS and HP while only investing in one stat!' will not happen.

Tomes have removed the need to invest leveling points into a stat to qualify for feats, but we still need to invest in other stats for saves. No?

Are they afraid characters would be walking around with 100+ con and all other stats in the teens? Maybe a tank would be slightly less of a slog to level? I'm trying to imagine the power build that dominates all other power builds that would result from con to hit, but there really isn't one the way things are set up now days.

The idea is that rather than current melee DPS (~110-140 strength, 70-100 con), you'd go pure con, and end up with ~20-40 extra con, netting a ton of extra HP. Whether that's realistic as an issue, I'm not sure—strength gets some unique clickies, good filigree and gear support, etc. That's the worry, though.

Hitting 110 long-buffed Con is pretty reasonable for an invested tank, which is around the unbuffed Str range. I'd expect to get a bunch higher temporarily as well.

A good number of the Str clickies also give Con (like rage, scream, tenser's) and there's Enhanced Bloodrage for +8 Con. Con has more raid doubles as well, although they're worse in terms of MP lol.

Idk, if I had the choice to have 140 Str and 80 Con (about what my last Barb had with full clickies going) vs 130 Con-to-everything I know what I'd pick nearly every time lol. Push raids are about the only spot I wouldn't. That's at least 1k HP difference lol.

Seriously? I run my Fat Dwarf barb build in R10 and never have trouble hitting anything. The CON to damage is awesome because now I also have a ton of HP.

I think this is fine - the Dwarf tree isnt that strong for DPS so its unlikely to become meta - would have been fun when Visage was based on Con but even that isnt a consideration anymore

It would be very likely to become "casual meta" though. Brainless working build. Click con, win.

But as long as there are no CON trances and str trance/raging con don't overlap I don't see it being a minmaxer problem. Just a little bit too easy generalist melee build to pull off and would in itself invalidate almost all "semitanky" builds as worse than condwarf.

... That being said, I think the fun gained by players would be higher than the negative effects of the potential balance problems. This is also why I did not get into game development.
