Confirmed: Can't Take Spring Attack as a Monk Feat With Multiclassing

Hey all, not sure if this is the right place for this because it seems pretty specific, but it's a little frustrating in my build that I'll have to wait until a significantly later level to take Spring Attack. This is a known bug (per this page: https://ddowiki.com/page/Martial_arts_feats), but I just wanted to get a little more attention on it, because it seems like an easy and impactful fix.

A detailed explanation:

I am a SF / Monk / FVS. I was taking level 9 as a monk, where I had the option to select a regular feat, and a martial arts feat. I'm compelled to prioritize my offensive feats (like ISWF, IC, etc), so I want to squeeze in things like dodge, mobility, spring attack only when they won't take the place of these higher-priority feats. My plan was to take dodge, mobility before this level-up, so I could take Spring Attack as my Monk feat (martial arts feat) at level 9. I believe I've taken Spring Attack as a martial arts feat before on a pure monk. However, while Spring Attack did show up as a feat in the selection list (with all of the prereqs met), I physically could not drag it into the martial arts feat slot.

I'm guessing it isn't typed as a martial arts feat due to my multi-classing (I started the character as a SF, took level 2 monk, then the rest SF for a total of 6 SF levels, then FVS at 8). And now monk at 9.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Is your base attack +4? If you multiclass with +0 BA at first level classes it might be lower at 9. SF should give you high enough BA though. But it's weird the Feat shows and you can't drag it. Probably bugged yes.

I thought it was monk 6 only to use a martial arts feat slot so i checked wiki:

"Bug: Spring Attack can only be taken as the third martial arts feat at Monk level 6. Multiclass characters taking the first or second level of Monk cannot take Spring Attack as their martial arts feat, even if they meet the prerequisites."

I didnt know it was a bug tbh since theres other feats like TTS that require monk 6.

Yup the wiki bug is confirmed still accurate. It's unfortunate, it means in order to not waste feats you gotta pick it up way later on. Ends up being a large chunk of the heroic leveling process that *could* be spent with this really fun, high-impact move (and we should be able to). Hope they patch this

That stinks... I had it at the start with trailblazer (since they get it from their racial tree) and I can't say that I'd want to to try leveling a regular monk without access to it ASAP. It is a nice martial feat.

I hope it gets fixed soon.

For clarity: if you're leveling a pure monk, you'll be able to take it just fine as a martial arts feat at level 6. However, if you're on a multiclass (you don't have 6 levels of MONK, specifically), then you can't take it as a martial arts feat when you take the monk level.

Ah gotcha. So it doesn't sound as bad as I initially thought. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
