Content not viewable...

yea, not just here, either. Works with a VPN,-it's that ID thing the gov brought in to sh*ttify the internet. I can't even browse work related sites without a VPN, now, as my webcam doesn't work on the security scans, and I'm not giving my credit card details out. It totally sucks.

Recently seeing a number of images on the forums coming up blank with a "content not viewable in your region" message.

Anyone else getting this?

I'm in UK.
Yeah, they're hosting their images on imgur.

Imgur recently got bought out and in protest all the weirdos who made an image hosting site their whole life started posting porn constantly in ways their moderation guys can't keep up with so they've just blocked UK IPs because presumably the UK makes up less of their revenue stream than it would cost to add the thing that lets them comply with the UK Online Safety Act.

Thank Uncle Kier I guess.

Its because of the Online Safety Act mate.

Most images posted here are through Imgur and they have disabled their site in the UK because of it.
Once the US and Canada implement the same legal framework companies like imgur will be forced to implement relevant changes which inturn will allow UK users to access impacted websites

MAYBE, you have to bear in mind to verify your age for this act of parliament you have to provide either the web site or their trusted third party with your personal data (even if they promise extra hard to delete it after generating your ID for their system) and the rules for said web site or trusted third party handling that data will vary between the UK and the various NA authorities which could well mean that meeting the requirements for the US KOSA act won't meet the requirements for the UK OSA.

Or they'll want $1 payable with specific payment systems to verify you are old enough to own a credit card which doesn't work for many people, either because they resent the $1 charge or because Visa Debit isn't in the list of possible payment systems (because you can have one of those while still being a minor).

I'm not against keeping kids off places stuffed with porn to be honest, but the burden of proof that I'm 40 shouldn't require me to give some nebulous third party photos of me....it should be something more full proof like knowing the that they were called the teenage mutant HERO turtles here back then or simply remembering when they were called Opal Fruits, that proves I'm an old **** in a less invasive way.

so basically you're saying there is a HUGE market for someone like Google to create an online digital ID that can be integrated into your Google account and can be used for age verification purposes...and a variety of other age-related requirements.

Google CEO I hope you are reading this (y)(y)(y)

How hard would it be to open up the forums to other image hosting sites? Why not just allow players to post images directly?

Oh, that would probably take work and effort, and moderation, and, well, you know, SSG.

You can post direct post images to Discord, but some people refuse to use it. (This is of course until the US government shuts Discord down or some billionaire ghoul buys it and ruins it.)

afaik any image hosting site can be used to post images here, it's just that imgur has traditionally been the easiest or most common one to use.

Hosting images directly on the forums used to be a thing, but that function broke a long time ago and never got fixed. It would be nice to see it get fixed / made usable again, though looking at it, it seems to have been replaced with a function that accepts urls for the image (aka: link to any other site where the image is located)

discord requires age checks for users inside the UK now and has already reported a databreach of people's IDs used to age verify.
If SSG starts using these forums for image hosting they'll be required to meet the same standards that imgur is refusing to, they'll have to enter a partnership with third party age verification services to permit users from the UK to use the forums.
It's not a valid expectation and it's more feasible to just block users from the UK.

Users choose to use imgur. SSG provides the ability [via a link] to insert the images into a post. Sure SSG can suggest image hosting sites that do;t need age verification...

The UK online safety act. Has censored Uk parliament debates and statements . Not fit for purpose. You Americans understand, don't trust your rulers or provide ID if you have not committed a crime. The Uk going back to before the british empire installed law. total farce.
Just block the UK the sooner the better and I'm British.

I use imgur because it's free, doesn't require me to make an account, lets me post both images and short videos (so I don't have to deal with youtube uploads outside long videos), and my uploads generally stay hosted for a long time before I have to re-upload them. I could use a different hosting service, but it could just as equally get blocked by the UK's rules and might not be as convenient for me. So it's easier for folks there to just use a VPN, Opera brower has one built-in for free.

There are reasons we are not an image hosting site open for public hosting, and it's probably similar to the reasons a lot of places don't host outside images these days. We do understand the frustration, especially during situations like this, but we are simply not in a position to start hosting whatever images people wish to upload.
