cordo on livestream: 64 bit servers need you to start with completely new toons

It wasn't exactly clear by his comments but it would seem more likely that he was referring to the upcoming demo/stress test of the 64 bit server. For that it would not be entirely unreasonable to not have a character migration like Lamannia usually supports and to limit it to fresh characters..

He could have meant what you are implying but that would make the 64 bit server quite pointless. At any rate I would wait for the official news before getting all worked up as the brief comment in the stream is not a lot to base any conclusions on.

Uh, wha? Oh so this is the new attempt at merging DDO to one - three servers (which is more realistic, considering some folk be complaining about getting help with quests, etc.) **AND..

Should help with game-mechanics responses/LAG, right?

@Cordovan will the MM transfer bug be healed by then? Will and how many transfers be free to VIP?

On Lotro they've started with fresh-start servers but indicated they would transition old servers over to 64 bit at some point.

I agree though - I'm playing on Mordor and having a blast, but character investment in DDO is just too important to start again. Hardcore is a different story, but I have a class completionist and near-racial completionist toon with gear from over a decade of playing. I couldn't ever start again.

As if switching to x64 would somehow affect lags. 🙄
But... why wouldn't it? **Or do you not know?

I've seen several folk talk a big game here via "spaghetto-code," etc but no one will get specific. Get specific or ****. If it "won't make a diff, SAY WHY!

10:40 in, apparently we wont be able to play our main toons which we spent money on to enjoy the game without lag
another success story
It's specifically about the first 64 bit server being a fresh start server, Sev has said if it is successful they'll look into rolling out 64 bit servers we can transfer to.

Oh, so USD with no guarantee? And minimal transfers, prolly.... Fresh start... I want details

Guessing LoTRO is lagging at this point. AS WILL ANY MMO. Honestly SSG business model seems like gambling. And I get the feeling SSG is looking for addicts to suck dry. I'm grateful DDO hasn't disappeared; apparently Gemstone is still around too

I don't like to paint a black picture but since SSG often times goes the easy way it might just happen as I fear.
If the introduction of the 64-bit server is as badly executed as the exodus after the hardcore screwup, meaning you have to pay big money to transfer and you can't take everything with you and it is an uncontrolled movement, it could very well kill the game.
Because
a) it pains to pay money for things already paid for
b) the people on the old server will feel 2nd class
c) old servers might die because of too low pop
d) split of friends and guilds and server culture yet again

If you are hit by one of this points let alone two or more than the probability that you leave the game skyrockets.

Cheers,
Titus

What can change the nature of a man ?
[#1] Why are they trying to spread the servers thin when the population is too small to handle it? They should be merging servers, not creating new ones.

[#2] Start all over from scratch? Including guild ships and the like? Sure, they want you to spend all those $$$ all over again. Makes sense from a business perspective.

[#3] Will they eventually add 64-bit servers to the existing servers anyway? Yes. Since they did that to LoTRO servers (or that's the plan there).

[Speculation] I think they are moving their servers to a new data center. Both the upgrade to 64-bit and all our complaints about lag and outage suggest this is the most likely course they are taking.

[Bottom Line] This is GREAT NEWS for our game. If they are willing to invest in new hardware; the game is VERY profitable and is alive and well.

I know all the problems of the merger server, but the population is getting smaller and smaller.

My suggestions:

Do an IN GAME research about it, whether players want MERGER or not, explain the pros and cons.

Give players compensation for their losses if they merge.

I personally am in favor of this way that I quoted above.

More suggestions are welcome.
