Cormyr is Opening to Everyone!

Cormyr is our 64-bit game world that recently concluded its Lanterns in the Mists event, and during that time we opened Cormyr to everyone for a while. We are happy to announce that starting on Wednesday, April 30th, Cormyr will open permanently for access by all players! We are also making Cormyr our Recommended World for new installations of the Dungeons & Dragons Online game client.

All of the characters you already have on Cormyr are there. In the future we intend to offer transfers to and from Cormyr once our updated Character Transfer technology is ready to go. Expect more information soon about our new worlds in the United States and Europe, and our plans for transfers to these worlds from our 32-bit game worlds!

For our VIPs who have come to call Cormyr home, we want to keep thanking you for your support! Starting on Wednesday, April 30th, through July 6th, VIPs will receive an additional +5% VIP XP (in addition to the +10% VIP XP they already receive) and once per day Gold Daily Dice rolls – on Cormyr ONLY!

We know many of you have enjoyed the improved game experience on our 64-bit world and we look forward to sharing more information about our future servers soon!
Called it.

I think this is a good move. Nice job SSG.

The fact that the VIP bonus is only on Cormyr is despicable. i don't play on Cormyr (yet) because i have 1 toon i play this costs more than enough of my time. Yet i pay the same amount each month as the rest of the VIPs and seriously i dont like being forced to go to a certain server just to get the bonuses. the one thinking of these things should get sacked.

Lol yet Cordo thinks they won't move shards. Maybe pay more attention to the conversations on the subject?
Go back and listen to what he said ~"we have not had the ability or done it before but if we do have the tech in the future."
Also, both Tolero and Severlin talked about transferring Astral shards in their Fridays at Four episodes.

Please! Just clone the servers, no transfers. Take down the servers, clone them to the 64 bit stuff, test and start them up, keep the old stuff around 'till you know it works. You will break a bunch of communities with transfers and you will lose customers that way.
So you would be ok transferring to a server that had X10 ping compared to what you have now? (Guessing you would want to go thru each account and separate by region then, but others have stated they would rather stay with friends. This all boils down to choice then and that is why they are giving us the choice of where we transfer our toons to.

I think opening it up is a good move. I personally would prefer to not see "exclusive" servers. If you want give the VIP peeps some kind of benefit, another way would be mo'betta.

The timing of this kind of sucks though too.. It would have been better if this would have been mentioned closer to the end of the free access period (as incoming). I suspect some people have either deleted their characters or have been bumped from the guilds they may have joined.
There would be no reason at all to delete your character, even more so with the dynamic environment the 64 bit offering is in right now. I do agree that having a VIP only server is a bad idea.

It's a VIP only server. No, it's available to everyone. It's a fresh start server. Um actually, transfers will be available.

Why is it so hard to plan this stuff out and not repeatedly contradict yourselves about how all this is going to work?

Please get your house into order and give us consistent and reliable information. I didn't think it would be possible to turn server transfers into a dumpster fire before they had even started but as always SSG has found a way.
No promises were made, they laid out the scenarios and watched the customer feedback. A good way to do things before you start any of the transfers.

With all the complaints about low population on the existing server that would make no sense at all. Also without knowledge of the data structures you can't say what can be cloned and moved to a new platform.

It is a carrot to increase the population on the server for further metrics monitoring and tuning.

but if its a carrot to fill a server up make the xp bonus just for Cormyr and for all players not just VIP. and im more of a honest guy: "we would love to see more VIP on cormyr for testing and such we will offer daily gold rolls and an extra xp boost on Cormyr". instead of we we want to reward you for being VIP and thus you get daily gold rolls and xp but only on cormyr. its bad marketing.

The entire lantern event was used as a carrot the 64-bit world; IMO the event should've been done on every server where it would've far more interesting to me to do it (I could only handle so much before I got bored playing a throwaway character on Cormyr). The new carrot will just get me to log on, roll, and log off; but at least its a bunch of extras rolls.

And all those extra log ons of people just rolling their gold rolls will be statistics for them to show daily activity to the company big wigs, as misleading as those stats would be because the big wigs possibly have no actual clue of what is actually going on in game. Maybe its not even daily activity they need to show the big wigs, this change is happening on cue prior to the end of the month, so maybe activity was so low in april that this boost was needed for the numbers. Of course, its all just some specualtion, nothing factual.

I do not want to cuss up a storm so please just substitute whatever words u want below this line and assume I would have said them all as a response to this.
What a scam. What a waste of money and time. What a way to ruin a server with a fresh start and economy.

and I really should have seen it coming.

atleast show us ur VIP year 2 so I can just stop visiting ddo.com

Yeah, and there are real world consquences for not sticking to these plans. Well not for SSG apparently, but certainly for the poor chumps who believe anything they say.

One of the points mentioned during earlier discussions of Cormyr was there's a segment of the population who wanted a fresh start. These people don't like the fact that there is such a huge spread in character power from reaper points and past lives and the way Cormyr was presented made it an attractive venue to them.

Presumably some of them did move over and spend money on buying things like tomes, bags, possibly even more expensive things like guild ships, etc, to get established in their new better balanced environment. And then, bam, the rug is yanked out from under them very soon after that.

I've lost hope SSG is ever going to have its 'Hey, are we the bad guys?' moment of realisation, let alone even consider compensating people for their more harmful changes of plan. But I do wish they would sometimes exercise just a bare minimum of caution to avoid routinely screwing people over and costing them significant investments of time, effort and even money.
Ya we call that a bait and switch, or 'the SSG.' They poorly plan often so will just blame it on that.

You should probably look into the actual why of things before you post the what of them - at least if you want it to support the point you're trying to make.

In this case, the audit dev simply didn't want to continue sinking his money/time into maintaining the Cormyr stats.

I'm a long time VIP who started playing just after DDO launched but slowed down a lot recently as I'm not sure what's happening to the game.
I have a small "personal" guild levelled up for all the buffs and many characters with names I like. At this point I feel like my "investment" in this game is in jeopardy as 64-bit servers are coming but there is no way for me to transfer my guild and all characters preserving my names, guild level and basically everything what I achieved over many years.
Is there any plan or advice for people like me or should I just finally give up, cancel my VIP and leave the game?

And how do you know that ? Why are you so sure ? After all, the very first 64 bit server where opens as "new VIP player only". They might not have thought about transfers at that point.
Why are you playing spokesweasle for SSG?

Cordovan "once our updated Character Transfer technology is ready to go. Expect more information soon about our new worlds in the United States and Europe, and our plans for transfers to these worlds from our 32-bit game worlds!"

They are working on the technology (as has been stated since Cormyr opened up) to make it so Astral Shards, Guilds, Pets, Mounts, Monster Manuals (correcting current issues) and anything else they thought of, so it can be transferred to the new servers.

As to the preservation of the names, On the LOTRO side they allowed VIPs to reserve 3 names on each server. (you may have more than 3 like me but I am only really attached to 2)

You do have the option of staying on your current server, that is your choice.

I hope this clarifies some of the information.
