Cormyr is Opening to Everyone!

Eurasian and the few African players generally congregate on the EU servers LOTRO-side. US servers seem to be home for players in the Americas plus Oz/NZ.

What happened over on LOTRO side showed that YES.

I appreciate your detailed replies. It is nice to have some factual info.

That actually makes sense, which means the stats could come back from next week.
Also means the stats run on the game's graphical interface?? Hm...
What do you mean "run on"? I don't think there's an API they can hook into, it's a logged-in character doing a /who and dumping the file to excel, or hopefully SQL before running analytics on it (Basic stuff like removing duplicate character logins so they can get a "Unique characters" count)

So when the new 64bit servers are released and we get our free transfers 100% of people will choose Cormyr because they have 2 or 3 months worth of gold roll freebies there and zero on any of the other servers so why would you bother?

Plus Cormyr will be full of new players and the current people who despise lag to the point that they are willing to start over. So the population will be enormous.

Maybe Europeans will choose the Europe server but I imagine we end up with one super server and the rest are Wayfinders.
Uh...couldn't they just transfer those cormyr characters to one of the other new 64 bits when they come out?

Though I DO think server-specific bonuses are a bad idea, especially the way they're doing it. I hope when the new servers come there are only 2-3 new ones, they all come out at the same time, and if there are any xp/drop/whatever boosts they're on ALL the servers at once, even the old crap ones lol.

If some people want to dig in and keep playing even when the population leaves, why not. If the devs want to plain ditch the 32bit ones and not worry about them then they need a method to store people's info and not let them play on it. Not just leave them all as wayfinders.

ignoring the reasons why SSG suddenly changed their stance on cormyr...

they triggered a firestorm when they said "final week of F2P cormyr" and...they've triggered another firestorm by saying "Ok folks we're making cormry permanently F2P"

Once Cormyr was opened up to non-VIP's for the event it became a reasonable possibility that the status would be extended given the no-transfers policy for Cormyr. Making Cormyr the default server was very likely in any potential delay of the other 64-bit servers to avoid making new players have to switch from a 32-bit to a 64-bit server before they had fully settled in to the game.

I think it was a good move and likely the only one that made a lot of sense given the LotRO 64-bit transfer issues. Get people on the 64-bit server and comfortable as their introduction to the game.

SSG is going to have to work hard to keep people from feeling left behind during this whole process. As a Solo VIP player I would have liked to maintain a VIP-only server but I am not representative of the player base as a whole and it's more important to me that the game thrive. My play experience will be just fine as long as major issues don't rear their head.

Or maybe the connectivity issues I've been experiencing on orien these past 3 weeks were common throughout the gaming community and SSG realized they needed to take drastic action

Cormyr is our 64-bit game world that recently concluded its Lanterns in the Mists event, and during that time we opened Cormyr to everyone for a while. We are happy to announce that starting on Wednesday, April 30th, Cormyr will open permanently for access by all players! We are also making Cormyr our Recommended World for new installations of the Dungeons & Dragons Online game client.

All of the characters you already have on Cormyr are there. In the future we intend to offer transfers to and from Cormyr once our updated Character Transfer technology is ready to go. Expect more information soon about our new worlds in the United States and Europe, and our plans for transfers to these worlds from our 32-bit game worlds!

For our VIPs who have come to call Cormyr home, we want to keep thanking you for your support! Starting on Wednesday, April 30th, through July 6th, VIPs will receive an additional +5% VIP XP (in addition to the +10% VIP XP they already receive) and once per day Gold Daily Dice rolls – on Cormyr ONLY!

We know many of you have enjoyed the improved game experience on our 64-bit world and we look forward to sharing more information about our future servers soon!
Hey! Any chance we getting a mini Year of the Dragon comeback, since the last cosmetic gift was not working and the dragon disciple was out of the free access period?

I know returning people that could use the cool green dragon gift also. Please, consider this idea.

Thanks!

Not a fan of this. This means that the new servers will not see many transfers as Cormyr will already be established. It also means that anyone who started on Cormyr because they wanted a fresh server will now see an influx of veteran characters.
I think it's a very short-sighted initiative.

The gold rolls only on Cormyr is a big middle finger to all the rest of the VIP's that play this game.
Have you thought to log in and bank the rolls and when they offer free transfers (the settling period like LOTRO) then you have a treasure trove of items and xp? I know someone who did this in DDO when they had the free gold rolls and transferred when they had free transfers.

Why gold rolls only in Cormyr? VIPs who don't play in Cormyr also pay a subscription!

I imagine you're opening the server to everyone because there aren't enough VIPs to maintain the server. From the beginning, the combination of VIP-only and starting from scratch was clearly going to attract a very small segment of the population. Very well, it didn't work. It's fine that you're opening it to everyone. But it doesn't make sense to give out gold rolls only on that server. Especially considering that people will be able to migrate there.

Has anyone given thought to how much easier and cheaper it is to have more people play on cormyr than 32 bit servers? Under that assumption, enticing players to stay/ migrate or new to ddo to play on a the new tech isn't rhat far out of line.
But, I do agree (guardedly) that it's a questionable way to get to that point.

I'm not going to start from scratch even if I'm drunk. I highly doubt I'll migrate there when the other servers are open, given that 300+ ms ping is horrendous. There are many reasons why people won't want to migrate there, even if they're willing to do so to other 64-bit servers when they're open.

It doesn't make sense to only give out gold rolls there.

Could have atleast limited transfers TO cormyr for some short period after the transfer tool launches.

This server is going from fresh start to bring all your characters from every server that you have been doing daily rolls on, as well as all your years of bloated items, dupes, etc.

Cormyr is going to be the 64bit server i avoid.

Yes, I have thought of this. I am currently collecting gold rolls on all severs so when the migration to 64bit servers happens I will have a lot of stuff. But I doubt they will have free transfers from Cormyr to a different 64 bit server. I have no idea what 64 bit server I land on, but that is at least 6 months out and I am paying VIP sub now.

LOTRO-side transfer demand VERY far exceeded their expectations
LotRO has it's transfer system for ages. (Still, didn't save people from losing their stuff in the process...)

For DDO.. they are "working on it". And if they won't be able to make the system that can transfer everything, the number of players who will want to transfer would be much lower.

I imagine you're opening the server to everyone because there aren't enough VIPs to maintain the server.
RIght. I can see how it was discussed :
We don't have enough $$$ to maintain the server.
Let's open the server to F2P players ! Their presence will increase server's resource consumption and as the result the bill to maintain the server, but they won't pay us to cover that bill !

L - Logic.

I will transfer to a 64 bit server when the time comes eventually. Cormyr will not be on the list for me.
