Cosmetic Recoloring System: More Customization, More Variety ⭐

I was thinking about something that could add even more character customization to the game.

The game already has countless cosmetics, which are great for making characters look unique. However, it would be interesting to have an in-game altar or NPC that lets players recolor their cosmetics. It could require a special ingredient or other collectible as the cost, giving players another reason to gather resources.

With the release of the latest expansion, I've noticed that many characters are wearing the exact same cosmetics. Now imagine if we could change the primary color, or even both the primary and secondary colors, of those cosmetics.

The possibilities for customization would be huge. Players could create much more unique-looking characters while still using the same cosmetic items, adding a lot more visual variety throughout the game without needing to introduce entirely new cosmetic sets.

Right now, cosmetics use fixed textures with predefined colors. I don't think this would be too difficult to implement, since the game already has a similar system for changing hair color.

The biggest challenge would probably be updating the existing cosmetics to support this new system, but I believe the effort would be worth it.

Customization is one of the biggest selling points in modern games. Giving players the ability to recolor their cosmetics would add a tremendous amount of variety and personalization without requiring the developers to create entirely new cosmetic sets. It would make the game feel more diverse and allow players to express their characters in much more unique ways.

I mean, I'd take it, even if it was a subscriber-only perk. I think ESO has this for subscribers only? This could be the biggest incentive for SSG to implement a feature like that.

It's more accurate to say fixed model with "fixed" textures using predefined colours.

Except the hair has the colour something that is adjustable. When you do not have an adjustable base, you can not simply apply a colour to "only" a particular part, but all of it at the same time. So what you're proposing doesn't work because you want to tint certain parts, not all of it.

No, it is not worth it. Making sure "new" items follow this system however would be viable. Old ones you can not if they didn't support it already as you would then need to manually recreate everything from scratch. You might as well ask for DDO2 then instead.

It is indeed one of the big selling points. But what you proposed will only work for future content, not existing content. If you adjust your suggestion to that, that will be viable. If you want all existing items to be possible, then that's just wishful thinking on how "easy" a job it is to do when it is not.
