if the extra slot is occupied, it's easily noticed when viewing/examining the shield.

Since OP mentioned they had other players try to slot it, I assumed someone would have noticed that.

Yes, there were other recipes available; no, I had not already put a shard in the extra slot.

If it's not working now, it's a new bug as I have a toon with multiple crafted shields with Ins. Deadly. They were all crafted around a year ago or so.

Definitely submit it.

Can you mail the shield prior to applying? If no then the shield is not (really) unbound.

Had it with a borked item some time ago: error on item, did allow unbound shard for ML to be applied but thereafter nothing else :(.
Also seen it on items with (bound) augment applied to it.

This is still bugged. It even shows the shard as being applicable to Weapon, Shield, Trinket in it's description. This sucks because Ins Deadly is just about the only good extra slot effect worth anything. Please fix.
