Crystal Cove returns next week!

the number of times the kobolds will simply do nothing remains irritatingly high. Cove is on a timer so when they simply stand doing nothing and you have no way to force them to move their *ss...
It's the torch placement, dur (duh)

If you can't be bothered to notice, why should they be bothered to not mill around?

BTW, you use hirelings in CC? :ROFLMAO: Pathetic.

Kobolds freeze when you miss-drop a barrel (they cannot reach it); if you drop them on the ramp some barrels may drop down into the ramp and never be seen again. Or you drop one when jumping. If the kobolds 'see' a barrel they want it. If unable to find a path there they stand looking at it AND all other kobolds get the same FREEZE!. So drop them when on the ground.
Kobolds keep running back on the torch-path if the torches are not placed 'nice enough'. The torches don't need to connect via a red 'laserline'; the next one just has to be visible from the last one.
Also avoid triangles of 'laserlight'; it confuses the kobolds on what path to follow.
Have fun.

kobolds are supposed to follow the light/laser path, not fixate over the torch placement.

And its difficult to rackup 200+ crystals soloing without hirelings

Says who? I think they actually follow the torches - had someone else placing the line and kobolds went to next torch despite there being no light.. I've had them get confused when the light goes thru the rock wall. They're easily confused in general, it seems.. perhaps by design.

I forgot the /s. Being a non-powergamer, I find it hard to get 200+ crystals with another player, let alone hires.
that moment when you realize gold contract hirelings are REALLY useful for cove :) (y)
and then there's the moment Jibbers and his minions kills it/them. Honestly, I cannot solo that thing unless I buy 3 hires... which I refuse to do.

**BTW, "ai" isn't here. Yet.

After getting a single compass after running Crystal Cove once you should have more than enough Stolen Gems to be able to get a dozen or more compasses. []
Honestly, I would just take a day *or a few hours running the wilds as opposed to spending gems on compasses - depending on the gem, it may be better to save them for items/item upgrades. Plus the event still occurs annually and the compasses will come (though I did blow thru 20 this time.)

Last year I used 250+ compasses. I ended up with 60K+ Stolen Jaspers which can be traded down then in for Stolen Doubloons. Only takes 2 gems for a compass and I averaged 200+/- gems per run. This was at lv 32 running on Challenge Level 37. So, in 20 minutes you can get 100 Compasses which would take how long running in the wild?

everytime I have had this happen it turned out to be a barrel that for some reason they cannot pick up so they all freeze. Hurry and pick up all barrels to see if that fixes it. Keep in mind the barrel may be in the air

Actually less than 10 minutes if you do a gem only run for purposes of buying compasses. Just run though and kill evrerything and leave. Half the time if team of two and go opposite directions

With gem runs only I used my lv 32 Mightofoaks on Lv 28 Challenge and averaged 4.5 minute runs with complete clearing.
The path I used was go left (East). At 4 way turn left (North), do the circle back to 4 way (make sure to take out enemies in northern pocket), Turn left (South), Follow until you hit southern pocket where Progenitor Crystal spawns (Southern pocket), Continue to far west and head north, At first Left (West) take out enemies there but continue North past western entrance from main room, At far north make sure to clear pocket, Turn right (West), AT west with pockets North and west turn Left (South) 1 "room", Turn Left (East) 1 room, Turn Right (South) 1 room, Turn Right (West) and follow to bowling alley, Turn Left (East) thru waterfall, Continue East for 2 Groups of Mobs, Turn around and come back 1 room and turn Right (North) for last group of Mobs.
Note: Since you are not going for XP (no completion), running this over level makes no sense. Run it for the level of gems you need and that will actually drop. Since there are optimal levels for gems this can be used as an argument for having alts at those levels (I spent 14.5 hours trading Stolen Gems this past Crystal Cove, I played videos when tabbed out of DDO but came back every 10 minutes or so to check progress). The use of wings/leap ability makes it faster. Remember you can regain SP at the shrine at the beginning. Killing the Red Named monsters got me quite a few Requisitions/other drops.
