Cure the lag : Time to REMOVE things

I don't think any of those (save MAYBE the monster manual) would have enough impact to make a significant difference in the lag. The issue is bigger than a few very small and quick stat calcs or item pools...

Pretty much just another ordinary "Remove everything I don't like and remake DDO into another game" thread, for a change, now disguised as "getting rid of lag" instead of the standard "difficult for new players". 🙄

None, because I'm not a developer on DDO with access to the backend systems to see what's actually causing server strain. But I can promise it's not the things you're suggesting.

I’d genuinely like to know how my suggestions could possibly “remake DDO into another game.”

You don’t know what I like or don’t like about the game — and honestly, that’s irrelevant here.

What matters is finding ideas that might help reduce lag.

Since you seem to have such a bright perspective, I’m looking forward to your constructive advice to help move the discussion in the right direction.

I believe that TR Caches holding 250+ items across thousands of characters could have a significant impact on game performance.
It is supposed to be temporary.

Similarly, a broken or bugged Monster Manual system — constantly counting and updating every player’s kills in real time — might also be contributing to performance issues.

Of course, I could be wrong as I am not a developer, but I think it’s worth considering whether addressing these areas could help reduce lag.

We experimented recently with hardly anyone having a TR cache in the days of the big transfer wave. It didn't seem to make anything better, probably too short and weird a time to know for sure, but I've filed that under "tried-recently-and-didn't-work."

How do you fix the lag?

I logged into Thrane over 2 minutes ago and still havent been able to move.

I think I would give up all the things OP mentioned if I could move.

This is a logical fallacy. I do not believe for a second there are "thousands of characters" holding 250+ items in TR. There are SOME players and characters like that, but they have to be an extreme minority of the overall player base.

We already had removes in the name of lag that cost dev time and irritated some player base.
I do not want to see another removes that are based on just blind speculations.
If we keep removing things, then we will end up as simple as other games and lose uniqueness that keep us here.
I do not want to play another typical simplified hack n slash.

- Lock players gear when they enter a quest : you dont change your equiped stuff in the quest = no more calculation with stats, sets, filigree ... So balance the stuff properly to give us more flexibility and rework clicky items.
I'm one of the few who still plays a dex based pure rogue assassin. Not being able to swap items would kill the utility of the build. All of my trapping gear are swap items.

We have terrible lag, maybe the solution is to remove useless things...

- Remove Monster Manual, completely
- Remove TR Cache, give us more bank space to buy : Here
- Ammos : Give all ranged weapons infinite returning ammos : no useless calculation in bolts numbers and weight
- Remove all useless items in the game : no more trash generation in chests please
- Remove reaper trees / rework it to have less calculation
- Remove Chests ransack : less timers and useless datas for each chest for each player. No chest ransack = more raid timer purchased just saying !
I know you planned to sell "Potion of Loot Ransack Reset" but we all know that it smells 💩
- Lock players gear when they enter a quest : you dont change your equiped stuff in the quest = no more calculation with stats, sets, filigree ... So balance the stuff properly to give us more flexibility and rework clicky items.
- Remove/adjust some visual effects : I have the feeling that many rainbow lights in myth drannor are feeding the lag / maybe I m wrong, but have the feeling
- Remove Paths : as said Here

What do you think about it ?
what could be removed / adjusted to reduce the lag ?
DDO if SSG listens to OP:

Add another 2 servers: overflow Thrane and overflow Shadowdale, allow transfers to them, redistribute the load until they figure out why the servers can't handle more than 400 at once? Instead of losing customers until they figure it out. Then merge those 2 back into Thrane and Shadowdale respectively?

Shadows.
Water features.
Altered environmental features like in Wheloon and MD.
Emojis.😜
Literally every single one of those are client side rendering, they won't do a single thing to help server-side lag.

1. Small step, but have familiars and pets on client side only. Or if there is a public outcry of "I earned this pet to show it off" then have them only displayed in public areas.
2. Maybe auras effecting other's dice rolls need to be changed? I am just a guy with no dev or coding experience. But logically auras have to add extra to the calculations needed and take bandwidth. If Player A has an aura that effects others then A has to send the calculation to server. It has to change my outcome/stats all in the time when I swing a weapon and send that result back to everyone. Multiplied how many times in how many instances?
3. Maybe double shots/strikes just need to roll the exact same damage number as the first hit? Same with repeaters. It seems that would reduce the calculations on the server side.
4. Admit that the number of active people playing slows down the servers? Do some the math necessary to see how many players need to move to the least populated server and offer incentives to make the move. Keep the population steady during prime time.

Dunno. Just doting about on forums before bed because lag is too bad to play the new expansion..... fun times.
